Coronavirus

Remember that a large minority in our society are snowflakes. They would have to go to the ICU with a fever of 99.5 F. So then we are Italy.
Well, since we are being unrealistic, we could have Dikembe Mutombo standing guard at the E. R. to swat their asses away.

Except they didn’t know what the f he was talking about Friday. They reverse engineered a lie.
Even the Obama (Obiden?) administration knew the truth:

Ben Rhodes, Obama's Deputy National Security Administrator, thinks most of the reporters the White House has to deal with “literally know nothing”.

It is not surprising that they didn't know what the f he was talking about Friday, or any other day of the week.

The “they” I was referring to was Google. They issued a statement Friday night indicating that we unsure what the president was referencing. Their site was not even in the testing phase yet. https://www.google.com/amp/s/techcrunch.com/2020/03/13/despite-trumps-claims-google-isnt-building-the-coronavirus-screening-site-and-its-not-ready/amp/

So if you go to the grocery store in Nashville, you can’t get meat, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, or paper towels. The Mayor is now proposing closing bars and limiting restaurants. Let’s starve our way out of this!
I bought gas and ammunition today.

My HEB had meat and most of everything, except TP. We only have one HEB, nobody I saw today were hoarding anything. They did limit eggs at two cartons. It’s good living in a small city sometimes.

Theo can you imagine what closing the bars in Nashville would do? I feel like my rant about shutting down the girls basketball championship games was light years ago and far away in the scope of things, although it still angers me.

Social distancing is a part of the solution, semi-quarantine. A two to four week hiatus of large public gatherings is a part. Eliminating all entrance into the country for the same amount of time is too. So is testing everyone you can. So is freeing up the medical market to respond to increased demand. So are new pandemic savings accounts or insurance, in order to protect people and businesses for lost wages.

The Corona virus is bad but the things we are doing are helping. Italy's death rate just broke below the exponential curve which means it should be on the way down. The US is going to have a hard month or two. We just can't have the government ruin businesses and then act like they are the saviors handing out newly printed money. If you haven't saved the money or bought insurance, increasing the money supply isn't a real fix. It is faith in magic that has been falsified.

If we all band together and do what we need to do we will have football season this year. Otherwise...

My Costco had plenty of food, just short of TP and paper towels. Didn’t check for sanitizers or disinfectant wipes.

Mexico is considering closing the border to stem the flow of the virus from the USA.
Smart move.

Well clearly to be consistent a large number of Americans should be calling them racists and claim that guarding the border doesn't work....

Went to Sam's around noon Friday, the place was a zoo. Never saw anything like it

Today we went to Sprouts for produce, no shortages there. At all. Went to Walmart afterwards for a photo frame (for her dad just admitted to a nursing home, can't visit face to face), it was less crowded than Friday when we drove by but the meat and milk shelves are damn near bare

Reading comprehension, like math, is hard for some folks:

Trump: "I want to thank Google. Google is helping to develop a website,” Trump said. “It’s gonna be very quickly done — unlike websites of the past — to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location."

From the article: "Verily, the Google spinout focused on life sciences, on Monday will launch an online screening survey to triage people in the San Francisco Bay Area who are concerned they may be infected with the new coronavirus and, when appropriate, direct them to two mobile testing facilities in Silicon Valley.

Verily said in a statement it plans to roll out the tool to additional locations over time, but it did not provide details about when that would happen."

To an extent. Running restaurants etc out of business and killing the economy may be a bad way to go about it.
Self induced economic collapse through mindless decisions. Let’s close these bars and restaurants in this area because no way the public will drive 10 minutes away to gather at those we don’t close. :brickwall:

The only problem: There is no nationwide site like the one Trump described. And Google had no idea the president was going to mention one.

A source at Google tells WIRED that company leadership was surprised that Trump announced anything about the initiative at the press conference. What he did say was also almost entirely wrong. There will be a coronavirus testing site, not from Google but from Alphabet sister company Verily. “We are developing a tool to help triage individuals for Covid-19 testing,” Google tweeted in a statement. “Verily is in the early stages of development, and planning to roll testing out in the Bay Area, with the hope of expanding more broadly over time.”

Even that, though, was not the original plan. The Verge reported Friday afternoon that Verily had intended the site for health care workers only. After Trump unexpectedly publicized the effort, Verily decided it will let anyone visit it, but can still only provide people with testing site information in the San Francisco area.

That's it, self induced economic collapse.

The airlines are going to go bankrupt without government intervention, which wouldn't be totally unjustified since the U.S. government has forbidden them to fly to much of the world.

Travel agencies, cruise lines might as well such it down.

Restaurants like Chik-fil-a are closing, except for take out.

Social distancing will take care of closing things like gyms, bowling leagues, bars, etc.

I guess the alternative is letting the virus spread but the cure may be worse than the problem.

From Google Communications just now on Twitter :

“We are fully aligned and continue to work with the US Government to contain the spread of COVID-19, inform citizens, and protect the health of our communities. (1/6)

“Google is partnering with the US Government in developing a nationwide website that includes information about COVID-19 symptoms, risk and testing information. (2/6)

“This is in addition to other measures we are taking, including: a Google “home page promotion” to promote greater awareness of simple measures citizens can take to prevent the spread of the disease; (3/6)

“Work being done by our sister company Verily to launch a pilot website that will enable individuals to do a risk assessment and be scheduled for testing at sites in the Bay Area; (4/6)

“Promoting authoritative information through Google Search and YouTube; taking measures to protect users from misinformation, including phishing, conspiracy theories, malware and misinformation; (5/6)

“Rolling out free access to our advanced Hangouts Meet video-conferencing capabilities to all G Suite and G Suite for Education customers globally until 7/01/20; advancing health research and science; and financially supporting global relief efforts.” - Google Spokesperson (6/6)
