Coronavirus

Whoever on here that said the free market will help solve it hit the nailed it.
Trump just enlisted companies like Roche Quest Tenet LabCorp Walmart Walgreeens CVS Target etc etc . He has relaxed and deleted regulations to get tests and equipment to market in days not years.
Ok Haters whine away

Oh and He is buying oil to put into surplus.
Hate to disappoint you, but I'm listening to his press conference and and find what Trump says to be pretty much on target. I also like the idea of buying and storing cheap oil.

What Trump said about telemedicine was in line with what I'm hearing from my health insurer about what we should do if we feel concerned about respiratory illness.

I see some blowback here and elsewhere on the shutdown of large gatherings for sports and the like, but I think it's reasonable. I see what's happening in Italy, where people are in a triage situation and some can't access the health services they need to keep breathing. We need time to ramp up testing and treatment capabilities and cutting down on socialization slows the spread of this scary illness.

About the only thing Trump said that I really disagree on is that the guy presiding over horrific environmental destruction in Brazil's rainforest is a great guy.

LH
POTUS just announced the admin has ordered a large number of respirators.
I know this will ease your mind.

Too bad one can't plan for every single contingency that could possibly exist.
But if a leader can work out plans to alleviate the problem then maybe sooner or later even haters could admit he/they are working to mitigate the problem

I don't see you as a whiner. You do disagree with Trump but you try to offer reasoned points why. instead of just hating.

Probably will not see the media reminding anyone of this moment anytime soon but back in 2009, Barack Obama waited to declare the H1N1 a national emergency until after millions of Americans were infected with over 1,000 Americans dead. The swine flu was a pandemic by April 2009 but Obama waited 6 months until October to declare it a public health emergency. In addition, despite the fact it was known that the virus was coming into the US from Mexico, he refused to shut the border down.

By way of comparison, President Trump acted within 3 weeks and before there were any deaths in the US.

Crockett, the Amazon fires aren't any worse than historical norms. Whatever Bolsanaro did, it didn't cause more destruction of the Amazon.

Here's a few facts that's being left out. Obama didn't declare a national emergency(something Trump already did) until October of 2009. Also, no travel restrictions(which Trump did) and little in the way of quarantines(Trump did) caused this to spread like wildfire. Nearly 13,000 deaths. Fauci recently praised Trump for his travel restrictions and said it has saved lives. Wish Obama had done the same.

I'm convinced 99% of all Democrats are just weak minded people who don't have the ability to think for themselves.

I'm wondering what kind of evidence and logic it takes to convince you of something. I hope you are not a judge, scientist or researcher.

On April 26, 2009 Obama’s acting director of health and human services declared H1N1 a public health emergency.[91]
On October 24, 2009, a second declaration was made by President Obama to temporarily waive or modify certain requirements of the Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children's Health Insurance programs and of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule. Declaration of a National Emergency With Respect to the 2009 H1N1 Influenza Pandemic(Proclamation 8443)[89] – empowered the secretary of Health and Human Servicesto issue waivers allowing overcrowded hospitals to move swine flu patients to satellite facilities or other hospitals.[92]

Yes, that event on October 24th that happened was the National emergency. Do you know there is a difference between a public emergency and a national emergency? Before you humiliate yourself further go look it up.

Edit- here's the story. https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/swineflu/16606

Why did Obama wait until 6 months to declare a national emergency?

So a big pharma co. (Roche in particular) goes from a popularly-designated public enemy to world hero overnight. The world is flipping upside down. I think we've just about seen it all!

The little I was able to gather from the speech and a quick search (admittedly incomplete information at this point) indicates that Roche apparently assembled an all-star team of virus specialists, including some AIDS researchers, and developed a really-good test for this coronavirus that can be mass produced quickly. If all this pans out, that all star team should be treated like the NBA all star team or something...

Now some dastardly medical company needs to put together an all-star team to mass produce ventilators quickly and economically. An if they're extra evil, they might even profit from it...

:fire::fire::fire: <--- flames of hades awaiting such medical profiteers. :rolleyes1:

If they charge based on what the market will bear instead of costs plus a nice profit, I think it would be villainous.

I agree but there will be so much scrutiny on this whole event I don't see that happening.
Plus Trump would never allow that

LH?
"
H1N1 was first diagnosed in US April 15, 2009.

CDC activated emergency operations April 22.

1 million tests released by May 15."

Do you have a credible site reporting that?
I found this timeline by the CDC
2009 H1N1 Flu Pandemic Timeline

I can find no mention that there were 1 million tests released May 15
I did find this
June 25
  • CDC estimated at least 1 million cases of 2009 H1N1 influenza had occurred in the United States.
maybe I am missing it? Surely if that had happened the CDC would have reported it

Interesting podcast with Bill Simmons and Malcolm Gladwell. These come out of China because they have a lot of pork there and pork is the bridge from birds to humans. The other interesting note was that the 1918 flu was different due to WWI. It started in the trenches. Typically, when the disease migrates the healthier aspects of the virus is the one that spreads more because those people are typically more mobile than the ones that have the more aggressive virus. In the trenches, if you got it and you got a gentle version you basically stayed put. If you got a more aggressive version you were taken off the front and to the medical units. That was what spread the aggressive version.

I"'ve read that the flu season ends because people breathe more fresh outdoor air and sunshine is a disinfectant. I wonder how that will impact this new pandemic?

Results, not what some scientist things but actual results.

I keep reading how H1N1 Obama tested 1 million people by some date.

H1N1 is a flu, we test for flu all the time. It's not something big to say we tested X number of people for the flu. We found a vaccine for H1N1, again, it's a flu, it's not hard to come up with a flu vaccine since we are constantly working on new flu vaccines every year. Most of the time scientist are guessing on how the flu virus will mutate. Having an actual flu virus culture takes a lot of the guesses out.

To further answer your question, I never see logic from democrats just rhetoric and pat answers, like a trained chimps.

Even the experts don't know. If this virus can survive all year round...... that's a scary thought.

Why is it scary? Nothing about this virus is scary, **** if you are scared of this you should see how scary the common cold is, we have been working on a cure for that for about 100 years.

Austin Bill
Read my CDC timeline. There is no mention of 1 million tests.
There is a mention of an estimated cases in June 09.
I am waiting for LH to provide credible proof. It may well be but you would think the CDC would mention the 1 million tests

Yes, it's not the world-ender the media has hyped it to be. However, the longer this virus survives the more likely it will mutate, possibly into something much, much worse. If this virus dies in the warm weather over the next few months we'll be okay.

Death rate for people my age ...4%. For my parents age double that and I enjoy spending time with them. This is way more dangerous than cold and flu.
People in Italy have been denied needed treatment because the country lacks beds and ventilators. I.am normally cautious, not fearful. I think this disease is serious and caution is appropriate. I'm washing my hands a lot, avoiding air travel for pleasure trips as well as large gatherings. Not shaking hands as much.
