Coronavirus

Dem voters apparently think toilet paper will save you, so cant we just wrap them up and send them in?

It isn't just the Dems. Military families over here are doing it, and it's absurd. Germans aren't handing it the same way. They are taking significant measures like closing schools, but the people themselves aren't freaking out.

Yesterday, I went to Globus (sorta like a Super HEB but with better beer but much crappier tortillas). It was mostly like normal. They just put out some hand sanitizer. It wasn't overly crowded, and everything was in stock. Then I went to the Commissary on base. It was a zoo. I couldn't even get a cart. They were rationing hand soap, sanitizer, cleansers, and they were almost out of toilet paper. It makes me wonder what these people were doing before Coronavirus. Were they just wiping with their hands and not washing? I honestly don't get the freakout.

I am glad you are seeing first hand what I have been railing about. Wife says HEB here near the highway has empty aisles. The Kroger further inside Woodlands is better with at least some food left on the shelves but still no beans, rice, flour but with some cereal, bread, and pasta.

Cancellation of all this stuff is hyping the hysteria. Just affected me with the cancellation of girls hs basketball state playoffs in Tenn. Pure BS. First it was going to be immediate player families only, that ticked me off cause I’m just a grandfather of a cheerleader and they weren’t even going to be allowed. Now no tournament period. This is lunacy! For so many girls this is a dream come true, many Srs will never play another competitive game. Really irritates me. Stupid to think cancelling a girls hs basketball tournament with its attendance numbers is going to affect the contagion.
Never underestimate the media's ability to create mass hysteria to get viewers and clicks. It's created mass hysteria among some of the the people I work with that have less common sense than road kill.

Then it's a catch-22 for the owners, leaders of major events, museums, churches, etc.; if you don't shut down the media is going to rip you apart.

I was at a Kroger in north Dallas yesterday. Thr only items they had tun out if were disinfecting wipes.
Plenty of tp and everything else stocked.
Last night the mayor declared a state of emergency so that may send people into panic mode

What many are not considering is the lives that will be lost due to economic destruction. I expect the suicide rate will explode over the next six months to be greater than lives lost to Covid 19. Very sad.

NY Gov Cuomo (Mario’s son) is now talking neutral and even positive on Trump, thanking Trump for the recent federal help.

Westchester County (a mostly wealthy area just North of NYC) is getting hammered with the virus. National Guard is in New Rochelle.

I just went to two HEBs here in San Antonio on my lunch hour. Both were completely nutzoid! It reminded me of the San Antonio gasoline "crisis" of a couple of years ago. Complete hysteria. Even if you found something of need, good luck checking out. The lines stretched down the aisles like it was the day before Thanksgiving. I didn't buy a thing. I hear that even their curbside pickup, where you order over the internet and then pickup later, is completely booked for a full day in advance.

The lead buffalo has charged for the cliff's edge and the herd is in mad pursuit.

People in general are prone to panic when toxins are floating around. Here in Tucson, there were people waiting in line before 5AM to get into Walmart to buy toilet paper primarily and cleaning supplies. I don't know or care if they were Democrats, Republicans, Nazis or whatever, they are all misguided and I'd venture to say, dumber than dirt. Having a clean butt isn't going to prevent a virus from invading a body, and it's not a good filter of microscopic pathogens. As you pointed out, wiping hands without washing first is ludicrous, and toilet paper disintegrates fairly quickly when it's wet. Also reported were a number of fights inside the store along with a shooting in the parking lot. It's crazy...Although, the description of the religious freak wearing a white mask over his nose, a long hooded black robe, and gloves while holding a sign saying something like "Repent The End Is Upon Us" was classic.

The lines at the HEB in Dripping Springs went all the way to the back of the store. I just wanted beer and sweet tea and they had that, but a lot of shelves were empty or close to it. Thankfully, the self-check line was pretty short and I was out of there pretty quickly. I will say the people there were very orderly and polite, talking with each other, no "panic" that I saw.

There's the key.

That area probably has and can afford much better security that other areas of New York. And despite the amount of wealth in the area, since there are apparently a large numbers of virus cases, will that be an area for outsiders to come into to cause trouble? It would be a double whammy, get shot and/or get sick. At least that's my take.

Oh okay I misunderstood. I know I'm not supposed to admit that on a message board. I thought you meant the wealthy part being key to a lot people having the CV there. Yes, those elites will get protection others wouldn't.

I believe it is a heavily liberal area, right? Ironic they are being protected with weapons.

Whoever on here that said the free market will help solve it hit the nailed it.
Trump just enlisted companies like Roche Quest Tenet LabCorp Walmart Walgreeens CVS Target etc etc . He has relaxed and deleted regulations to get tests and equipment to market in days not years.
Ok Haters whine away

Oh and He is buying oil to put into surplus.

Summary is here (first part of ZH thread).
Trump Declares National Emergency Over Coronavirus

Like 6721 said, it appears Trump now doing what a lot of supporters and haters are recommending.

Yes it is. I know the virus can strike anybody, anywhere at any time, but such a high number in one area is a bit surprising. Owning weapons, kinda goes against what most liberals support. But also, the number of private security guards patrolling the area must be high. Especially since there's a great deal of wealth located there.

Has anyone else noticed that democrats don't seem to have any original thoughts on their own. They read something online and just seem to rattle it off like a tape recorder. I honestly don't think they use their brains, all they do is hear what the party says and that is the truth. They would have fit in perfectly in Nazi Germany.

I'm convinced 99% of all Democrats are just weak minded people who don't have the ability to think for themselves.

They are opportunists and world-class cynics.
