A lot of people without masks in that pic... But noooooo, protests had ZERO impact on the rising cases...

I'm already dead because I don't wear a mask while walking outside.

I call it systemic death. It is invisible and ineffectual but an unequivocal truth that we must force people to believe.

I don’t mean to brag, but the Corona Virus is about the 10th “End of the World” that I’ve survived.

The state Republicans did file suit
We will see what a judge says (I would LOVE to see a judge hammer the mayor on the 5th/14th grounds. Probably wont happen but I promise to fire up a Cuban cigar Ive been saving if it does. That would be so great)
Will have to happen pretty quick and whoever loses probably wont have any recourse

I dont find the state's website that easy to navigate.
I do agree that it's a good question, for both the state and the CDC.

The chart displays flu and COVID-19 data that’s misleading to compare, the department said..

“Both flu and COVID-19 are serious diseases that have killed thousands of Texans this year,” the department said on Twitter.

The CDC estimates 12,000 to 61,000 U.S. flu deaths per year.

The U.S. has had more than 135,000 COVID-19 associated deaths since February.

“DSHS strongly encourages Texans to protect themselves and loved ones from COVID-19 and the flu,” the department said.

I actually once sat next to Sylvester Turner at a Rockets game, by pure chance. It was at a time after he had lost one of his previous runs for mayor but after he had sued Channel 13 (local ABC) and its then-reporter Wayne Dolcefino. We basically had a two-hour discussion about first amendment law (my favorite area of the law). I told him I agreed with his suit even though those are so hard to win if the plaintiff is considered a "public person." So I guess he liked that and we got into it. We even got back into it after intermission. I admit it was fun. I had to later apologize to my date since she was mostly ignored the whole game. And he was sitting with some guy who never spoke a word that I could hear.

So his run as mayor now has been pretty disappointing to me, because in our one-on-one, he seemed to me to be reasonable, fair and honest. But he has not been that as mayor and has even engaged in the typical graft and collusion that you might expect (friends getting contracts, things like that). And now that he is term-limited out and is a lame duck, he is getting even worse. He doesnt give a crap anymore and is letting the real person out.

If that's true then sorry
But I still do not trust the way they are coding it.
You might have noticed, at the federal level, HHS just took away reporting on C-19 from the CDC. Obviously, I am not the only person who was skeptical about CDC coding.
White House tells hospitals to bypass CDC on COVID-19 reporting

Here is just one example -- the state of Florida began looking into C-19 testing labs in state and found that some of them reported everyone they tested as positive -- 100%
FOX 35 INVESTIGATES: Florida Department of Health says some labs have not reported negative COVID-19 results Even though this article is a local news product, they attach a lot of specific, easy to view info graphs. It's all Florida but still worth a look

"Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates. FOX 35 News found that testing sites like one local Centra Care reported that 83 people were tested and all tested positive. Then, NCF Diagnostics in Alachua reported 88 percent of tests were positive.

How could that be? FOX 35 News investigated these astronomical numbers, contacting every local location mentioned in the report.

The report showed that Orlando Health had a 98 percent positivity rate. However, when FOX 35 News contacted the hospital, they confirmed errors in the report. Orlando Health's positivity rate is only 9.4 percent, not 98 percent as in the report.

The report also showed that the Orlando Veteran’s Medical Center had a positivity rate of 76 percent. A spokesperson for the VA told FOX 35 News on Tuesday that this does not reflect their numbers and that the positivity rate for the center is actually 6 percent...."

This explains alot

As a native Houstonian who remembers Kathy Whitmire, I think all Sylvester Turner cares about is that he finally became mayor. That was his Super Bowl.

JF, they say the tweet is misleading but not inaccurate.

His friends have benefited

Whitmire certainly changed how the city was run. And while its inescapable that changes did need to be made,it also has to be said that this was precisely the time when the City started to nickel and dime everyone to death. It started somewhere, and this is the when and where.

https://nypost.com/2020/05/24/california-city-has-seen-more-deaths-by-suicide-than-covid-19-doctor/

"The head of a California hospital’s trauma team says his area has seen more death from lockdown suicides than from the pandemic itself.

“We’ve never seen numbers like this, in such a short period of time,” Dr. Mike deBoisblanc of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, just outside of Oakland, told ABC7 of the apparent mental health crisis.

“I mean, we’ve seen a year’s worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks,” he told the station, which did not give figures to back the claims.

Walnut Creek is in Contra Costa County, which as of Saturday had recorded 1,296 coronavirus cases, with 36 deaths.

DeBoisblanc believes the mental health cost proves “it’s time” to end the shelter-in-place in the county of more than a million people, he told the station....."

New Braunfels ISD announced that they'll be internet only for at least the first three weeks in the fall. All scheduled activities canceled during that time. They'll reevaluate after that.

Nevermind that the data came FROM the DSHS website...

The data for COVID was accurate. The data fro flu was not. If you look up the CDC data it shows Texas had ~3000 flu deaths for 2017 and 2018. Not sure where the table was getting its flu information.

Abbott the idiot just allowed Texas schools to go virtual all Fall.

Abbott is a liberal. He isn't a conservative. I wish the governorship was up for vote.

The Gov of South Dakota on mask wearing
As a 3rd generation Texan, I have never been jealous of other states over anything, but I admit I am now starting to cast a slightly envious eye towards SD. Life in the vast lane.

I would trade Greg Grabbit for her in a minute

Having schools teach virtually presents a challenge to my family since we have a younger student in the house. But the more I think about it any sacrifice may be worth it if the wackos like that have less interaction with my children. Schools will have to streamline courses which may not allow those kinds of shenanigans. Plus any shenanigans will be recorded for my kids to show me and we can discuss.

Maybe I am for Corona school lockdowns to continue. Then, maybe, we can get citizens and parents to protest for tax cuts since the schools won't need as many teachers, administrators, and most importantly buildings.

I could even pitch it as a green effort. Tear down the school and plant a big nature preserve.
