CFP Peach Bowl Game Thread - Horns vs ASU

Sorry, folks, but I saw Skatabo's little temper tantrum on the sideline when it happened and my first thought was - ME/team. At that point, he hadn't done ****, and he's going off on his teammates? I remember being in the locker room in Charlottesville after the beating that Ricky took at the hands of Rick Lantz' defense, and Ricky didn't whine or fuss, just class.

He was indeed the best player on the field yesterday and has a huge desire to win. He carried his team on his back. He ran his mouth the whole game. He can take Simmons comments to his teammates he quit on. Do I want him on my team? NO! I give Dillingham respect and a huge "attaboy" for reeling him back in and getting that second half performance out of him.

Orange County USC alums are all over him. He has deep roots in Arizona, BUT every student at that school is trying to get a job in SoCal or the Bay Area. Those areas recruit Stanford, Berzerkley, UCLA, USC, and UC-whatevers first.

Rising young star. Keep him away from OU.
Maybe Big Blue will take an interest in him...?
Or USC...?

He's Az born. Az St grad. This is where he has wanted to be. I don't see him going anywhere but the NFL. And I dont think he is ready for that headache anytime soon.

He earned my respect, but if the Texas offense would have pulled their weight in the 2nd & 3rd quarter he would have never had the opportunity to do what he did. The Texas D shut him down in the first half, but being on the field all night due to the lack of offense and keeping it close gave Skattebo a chance in the 4th.
Certainly the lack of a running game gave asu more possessions and time and kept our defense on the field. And I don’t get why we couldn’t run on them but there were no holes to run. Like Georgia.
But there were other factors that lead to number and time of possession difference. Roughing the punter penalty, Fake punt, safety, we returned a punt for a td, our first td was 2 plays 77 yards.
These 5 things contributed significantly to the possession difference.
2 of these were good, 3 were bad. That’s five possessions which is a lot of plays and time. No doubt defense was on the field a lot and wore down some and overtime didn’t help and certainly contributed to Skattebo having a good 2nd half where he did nothing in the first.

There’s also been way too many running back fumbles since Brooks went out last year. Blue’s fumble went out of bounds and Weisner fumbled in our end zone

Auburn needs to shave his head and give his hair away to an alopecia charity. And Sark’s sideline kicker whispering ain’t workin.

The biggest mis yesterday was waiting until OT to think about using Gunner Helm. He is an elite TE with exceptional hands.
But ASU cheated. Their DBs got up on the LOS and in the faces of our receivers, punching them in the mouth when the ball was snapped. I'm sure if that was legal, the school known as DBU would do it occasionally - maybe?

Yeah. Simmons is a very good player but I find this pathetic. I'm an old "boomer" but most coaches back in the '70s..... well, they basically didn't tolerate much trash talking. Didn't Simmons have other things to do, like pay attention to defensive adjustments and any advice from coaches?
Not sure we should call out Simmons- he has been phenomenal. IF he is the only one doing this then coach can have a one on one. If other players are also reading/accessing social media during the half if falls back onto the coaches and could definitely be a source if the team being so flat in 3rd quarter. We have been outscored something like 46-3 in 3rd quarter of last 6 games .

This is the best thing I've seen so far. In year ONE Texas is already destroying the SEC SEC SEC mentality. They think they're so elite and for Texas to come in, play in the title game and could be the ONLY SEC team left standing after tonight in the playoffs is hilarious. I hate the SEC and wish we would have never moved there, but now that we're there I want to make those inbred retards as miserable as we can.
This X 1000 %

This is a very important stat: Horns outscored 46-3 in the last six games. I knew the team has been coming out flat, and that most of the Hornfans are chewing on the offense as the culprit, but this stat puts the spotlight right on the defense.

They were definitely getting knocked around and scored on by Georgia, Clemson and ASU in the third quarter. I was shocked by Coach K being passive and not putting heavy pressure on the Georgia QB kid replacement, and then ASU just whipped the D in the third last night. Kudos to Makumbo (sp) for saving our soup with that int.
And thankfully, Quinn and our receiving core kept us in the game and scored enough to win.

To beat tOSU we will need 4 quarters from both O and D; and no choking from Mr. Auburn.

If the defense could have gotten ASU off the field in the third quarter, then maybe our O would have had a few more chances to figure out how to block their D-line and open a hole or two.

Also, if Auburn could make routine field goals maybe we would not have to go into OT so much in big time games. When the O drives the ball down the field that effort needs to be paid off with at least 3 points. And that's all it would have taken to avoid OT against UG and ASU

Whatever. We are Texas. I would guess that a large majority of Texas fans do not root for any team just because they are in the same conference. We only pull for teams if that teams victory helps Texas or if the team they are playing is hated worse. Ex. Georgia v. ND. Two universal constants: Always pull against ou, nothing good comes from the land thieves winning (it is extremely distasteful, and one feels dirty if an ou win helps Texas but it is pretty rare). Always pull against aggy mainly for the selfish reason that their meltdowns are so much fun to watch. When ou plays aggy, I tend to come down on the side of watching aggy meltdown. As Longhornlawyer said in the classic post, I am an addict to aggy misery.
Two things:
-My favorite teams are the Longhorns and the teams playing the aggies and the sooners. Sorry, small of me, I know.
-With the" better than thou attitude" of SEC fans, nothing could be better than being the last SEC team standing.

Sorry, Tex, but as I told Switzer, I always wanted Texas to be the only team OU lost to, because I knew how gut-wrenching that would be for him to deal with for 365 days.

ND, VT, UConn, the convicts, Berzerkley, Ohio State, Michigan, FSU (after Coach Bowden) are a totally different story.

Targeting? Its called football. Back in the day it is the way the game was played. And much worse. I do think head injuries should be kept to a minimum, but blowing up an opponent is part of te game.
I agree; it is a contact sport. I have an uneven collarbone repair from being speared, and a right kneecap that was behind my leg for trying to spear a punt return man.

It is a violent sport, and I want the rules we can get to protect the players and their health now and in the future. "Targeting" is subjective and should consider "Intent" when possible. I abhor dirty play and will not tolerate it by my Horns or opponents. (Every team should have "enforcers".)

My problem is CTE, and the fact that guys that I never saw get "tattooed" are now suffering from CTE.

So much for SEC, SEC, SEC unity. Not anymore, since TEXAS became the new $heriff in the SEC.

GA knows UT is the new Daddy of the SEC and they hate us like Bama and the others.

Get used to UT and why Nebraska left the Big 12.
To all Texas haters and Arizona State fans. The officials gave them plenty of opportunities and now the bitching is all about a
'No Call" they wanted. My advice is don't ask the officials to do what you cannot do on the field. You got beat by a better team and your stud mouth got beat up! Find another team to hate.

I'll be actively cheering against Georgia...let me be clear, not for Noter Damn, but against Georgia. I want Texas to be the last SEC team standing so they feel pain. They thought another aggy was coming to town, but they're quickly learning the difference.
I have mixed emotions because if we get there (big "if") and GA does as well, what would be better than winning Round 3?

Agree but Simmons should know better. Is he still a high school boy?
