I have mixed emotions because if we get there (big "if") and GA does as well, what would be better than winning Round 3?
The only problem I have with Simmons is that he didn’t check in with the offense on whether they would play complementary football in the 2nd half. That was the key mistake, not the tweet.Agree but Simmons should know better. Is he still a high school boy?
Agree but I think you are confusing play on the field with immature, childish behavior. The only problem I have with Simmons is that he didn’t check in with the offense on whether they would play complementary football in the 2nd half. That was the key mistake, not the tweet.
Yes, but if he did what I suggested and the offense couldn’t offer any assurance about playing complimentary football, then it would suggest not to send the tweet. Just a long way of saying that Simmons’ attitude was not wrong per se, but if you are going to stick your neck out, you better check with your teammates and/or insure you can back it up. I don’t mind cockiness, but there is a smart way of doing it, and you look really stupid if you do it the dumb way. So I say it was more dumb than childish.Agree but I think you are confusing play on the field with immature, childish behavior.
Obviously, he went to Mack Brown's Summer CampYeah, he clapped at the end.
The Cowboys were in the playoffs? In 2007 the Giants lost to the Cowboys both times in the regular season, maintained their bravado, then beat the Cowboys in the playoffs on their way to the Super Bowl victory over the undefeated Patriots.
So, it can be done...
But first, Ohio State.
Agree and that's part of the immaturity.... Although, we see behavior far dumber than this from 26 year old adolescents in the nfl. He was one play or one bad ref call, etc., from looking stupid and getting buried in ugly "tweets". Sigh..... Most of this **** is so stupid. I don't "tweet".Yes, but if he did what I suggested and the offense couldn’t offer any assurance about playing complimentary football, then it would suggest not to send the tweet. Yes, Simmons used poor judgment, and Sark will address that.
The punishment I would choose if I were Sark:
"Colin, because of your error in judgment, we will need to have three sacks from you next Friday, three TFLs, and a forced fumble. After you do that, all will be forgiven."
OK, that sounds more like the Dallas Jonses I've come to know and loathe.I know, right? Yeah and they promptly lost.

Just wait until he's got millions of dollars and that immaturity expresses itself off the field...I believe some of Colin's teammates had to pull him away from being to cocky on the field after making a big play. He's young, he's wild, he's free.
As they say, I'd rather have to pull on the reins than have to crack a whip.
It is hard to win football titles without a field goal kicker. The Horns have a great chance, but they are suspect in the kicking game which will keep them from dominating any team.
I once hit a running back squarely in the top of his helmet as a large hole opened in the line. He had his head down as I did, and the top of our heads met squarely, and he went back into the backfield landing on the backside. He looked at me, dazed, and ran off the field not to return to play. That play for him was more dangerous than what they now call targeting and because it was not a launch, I would assume that it would not carry a penalty. We won a lot of games that year because we beat up a lot of offenses and there was no hesitation when hitting the opposing player. I do agree that there are some reasons to throw the flag.I agree; it is a contact sport. I have an uneven collarbone repair from being speared, and a right kneecap that was behind my leg for trying to spear a punt return man.
It is a violent sport, and I want the rules we can get to protect the players and their health now and in the future. "Targeting" is subjective and should consider "Intent" when possible. I abhor dirty play and will not tolerate it by my Horns or opponents. (Every team should have "enforcers".)
My problem is CTE, and the fact that guys that I never saw get "tattooed" are now suffering from CTE.
Anout how long has Hardin Simmons been playing football?Chin,
We had a coach in 7th grade, who also taught Texas History. He played a couple of years as the NY Titans starting fullback. His favorite story was playing defense against LSU when he tried to tackle Billy Cannon, and Cannon's knee knocked a whole in the top of his helmet. Every time he decided to give us a pop quiz, someone would ask what's the hardest he ever got hit, and we got to listen to the story until the bell rang.
Sidebar - The original Titans had two RBs from Abilene (ACC & Hardin Simmons). They were both West Texas guys and went to try out for the Titans when the AFL was formed. They were the starting TB & FB for the and would coach at Port Neches Jr High for one year.
Not sure why you quoted me like that. I never said it was targeting.Targeting? Its called football. Back in the day it is the way the game was played. And much worse. I do think head injuries should be kept to a minimum, but blowing up an opponent is part of te game.
I think the replay official should only be able to review targeting and roughing the passer plays at full speed, no slow motion. I don't know what they expect these players to do. They seem to be believe they can suspend themselves instantly in mid air.I agree; it is a contact sport. I have an uneven collarbone repair from being speared, and a right kneecap that was behind my leg for trying to spear a punt return man.

I hesitate to give an opinion because I didn’t even read the textbook, but apart from the textbook, there must be in the reviewers’ minds the feel and intent. Even in slow motion, it was face to face (eye to eye, actually), then belly to belly, then crotch to crotch—ie Taaffe hit him whole body-to-body. His weight was NOT in line with his head, also evidenced by the fact that Taaffe’s head snapped back, too. Whatever the textbook definition may be, it was not a dirty play and that colors how it gets reviewed. My two cents worth is that Taffe's hit was the text book definition of targeting. I think we got away with one. And since it's Texas, of course the national media is beating the story to death. No mention of the OL carrying Saint Skattabo over the goal line illegally. The double standard against UT is laughable.
On another note, what did Simmons do? Was he on his phone doing social media at the half?
What Taaffe did used to be called a form tackle.I hesitate to give an opinion because I didn’t even read the textbook, but apart from the textbook, there must be in the reviewers’ minds the feel and intent. One last thing that never gets mentioned in the debate: the refs didn’t throw a flag. Everyone discusses it as if a flag was overturned. There is an argument both for and against it being targeting. Analysts I have heard point to the intent and how the play developed.
Doesn't matter now. Go kick the Bucks in the nuts.
