CFP Peach Bowl Game Thread - Horns vs ASU

The Bucks can show up and lay an egg any given game just like we can.

Yep....... look no further than their inexplicable loss to Michigan. Ohio State is favored and they should be favored, they are probably more talented overall than Texas, one of two or three teams that can say that, but they are not a dominant machine that can just show up and win.

I'm old and have watched the Horns since DKR was the coach. Seen a lot of play callers and am becoming less enamored with that part of Sark each game. Don't get me wrong, he is great recruiter and offensive play designer, but he gets off the easy path too much. Twice in the second half it looked like we were going to start to run it down there throats. We had a seven yard and an eight yard run on first down to start a series. In each case they were followed up by long passes- not QE's long suit. We could have taken control, but Sark and Ewers together seemed intent on throwing more than we needed too and never decided to just crush them. Granted our OL was not spectacular or even very good today, but we needed to pound it more. Quinn had great moments today and those are paired with ridiculous throws into double coverage that are intercepted or should have been. Once again Bond seemed out of it. He was QE's main man and now they are not even close to being on the same page. Thank god for Golden.

Next week looks pretty scary unless Sark can get out of his own way.
I've said it before and I'm saying it again, I don't know s**t about the intricacies of football. I'm simply a huge fan and I bleed Burnt Orange for my Longhorns.
That said, it infuriates me how we keep asking Quinn to throw it deep. He simply does not connect on those passes often enough to justify throwing them. To start the game he threw two medium range passes with devastating results. We didn't throw another pass of that depth until the second half. It's very confusing for my pea brain.

Plus it was to Bond 2 times who is still hobbled. Throw it to Wingo who can jump!

Me thinks we matched up better vs. ducks instead of the bucks.
Ducks, Bucks, it don’t make a ….
Horns are about to put it all together and play a complete game in all facets. They’ve been given another opportunity to continue on this journey. The next opponent will be the most important of the season.
As Elwood Blues said, “We’re on a mission from God.”
I gotta believe!!

I think we have some problems and they all revolve around Sark;

He never claps. He needs to be clapping every time we do something dumb.
He doesn't tell the team that winning is hard.
He never says the opponent scares him to death.
He doesn't tell the team that they just have to play better.
He doesn't seem to have a binder.
:p
We won. Not only that, we've won two playoff games. I hope this reminds us of where we've been versus where we are. Would any of the personalities I reference above have coached the team to a win today? Possibly MB when he had Vince or Colt. Outside of that, no way.

Dillingham after being asked about the no targeting call.

"I’m going to be honest,” Dillingham said. “I just don’t know what targeting is. I don’t want to comment on something that I have to get a better grasp on what it is.”

Fair enough.

I like this guy. To be honest, I thought it was targeting too.

I thought it was a textbook case of targeting. However, a high school referee friend of mine explained it this way:

1. The ball was tipped which eliminates the defenseless receiver rule.
2. The DB never ducked his head and made contact with his facemask and not the crown of his helmet.

What is targeting in college football?

Targeting, in a nutshell, is helmet-to-helmet contact created by launching at a player.

Per the rulebook, a few examples of targeting are as follows:

  • Launch-a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
  • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
    • Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
    • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
  • Taaffe's lid certainly made contact with Stovall's helmet. But the typical tenets of targeting — the launch, the crouch, the lowering of the head — weren't quite as easy to spot. That might've been the Longhorns' defensive back's saving grace.

I wondered if the tipped pass had any impact on the targeting rule. Of course, the worthless announcers provided zero insight. I thought it would be called targeting due to the forcible contact to the receiver's head/neck area (which applies regardless of whether it's done with the crown of the helmet or not). I guess if the defenseless receiver designation is removed, contact to the head/neck area is permitted?

Also from txags..🤣

Skataboo no doubt had a big game today. He is a stud and earned our respect. Congrats.

However, he may never admit to it publically, but if pressured he would admit the UT DEFENSE hit and pounded his donkeyass like no team he ever played against!🤘🤘🤘

They have turned out to be the trashiest fans on social media. Grown women with children dropping f-bombs and the most vulgar comments. They also don’t go away, they just pop up all the time. It’s like a termite or roach infestation.

So much for SEC, SEC, SEC unity. Not anymore, since TEXAS became the new $heriff in the SEC.

GA knows UT is the new Daddy of the SEC and they hate us like Bama and the others do.

SEC: get used to UT and why Nebraska left the Big 12.

If you are not watching, you should tune into the SEC channel.

Continue to enjoy this crazy but delicious win.

UT win highlights are all they have to show tonight since ND-GA got postponed and no other SEC games.
