Band and Cheer Stuff

The rise and fall of popular girls names over the decades is really something to note with a fascinating amusement.

So...............where have all the Jennifers, Lauras, and Theresas gone???
Washed up at 54 years old, drinking wine. If they’re lucky, they landed in a good place.

One tradition that I miss is the LHB doing the “Power Up” entrance to DKR for the pre-game show (marching in to a drum cadence that gradually gets faster). The video below (from the 2016 Notre Dame game) is the best one I’ve seen for the Power Up entrance. (Best if you can watch this on a big screen and a good sound system)

If this video does not fire you up then you need to turn in your Longhorn Card to Dion!!!

EMJ,

I don't know anything about the band or how music is chosen, etc. What I can tell you is that Saturday they band entered Memorial Stadium later than normal and played one or two fewer songs during pregame. I can only speculate that this was done for GameDay and/or Fox.

That drum cadence rocks the house.
:drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana::drummernana:

Chop, I (also) love the "Cheerleader" cadence that the Longhorn Percussion uses for marching onto the field here (gives me major goosebumps)

And as for March of the Longhorns, all I can say for sure is that it's usually part of the "Wall-to-Wall" drill (seen here after March Grandioso at 2:31 in the video)

Thanks Chop that’s the performance I was talking about. They did Wall to Wall during the ULM game, but The March of the Longhorns was not played. It was substituted to what was referred to Texas Thunder.

BTW I never minded the khaki shorts and burnt orange shirts when it was 120 on the field.
I guess it is the band director's decision
Aaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!!!

Back in the day, bands used to march in 100 degree Texas heat wearing full uniforms, and they got no water until practice was over.

Of course, football players used to practice 2 a days with their helmets on most of the time for 8 hours a day, with the afternoon sessions reaching 100 degrees (that part actually did happen). Then they'd run wind sprints and bleachers just for the fun of it until the first man puked!!!!!!

They've gone soft these days...

Starting about 0:13 and continuing--they're shouting something.

What are the words they're shouting?

My son was in the band in the early 2010s timeframe. I wish I could remember the things he told me they say. There's one about doing what the piggies do...I can't make that up. And in general, they denigrate the school we're competing against that week. I don't think most people listen to that.

I think most marching bands have their own marching cadance raps.
Not mean spirited, fairly innocuous.
Most include ways to pay tribute to each section of the band. Just kinda cool for the members

Chop, it wasn’t easy, but I think I chased down the inspiration for all grumpy old men memes, ever.
