Band and Cheer Stuff

Alabama game Band performance.
I like how we spelled "Jazz" in cursive.
And having the guest singer for "The House of the Rising Sun"

GO BACK AND WATCH/LISTEN TO THIS PERFORMANCE--EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT A "BAND PERSON".

This is the one of the best marching band performances I can recall by any band not from Southern U, Grambling, TSU, or Prairie View.

GOOD JOB LHB!!!

Pre-Game Entrance from 1st Game; Step-Off from 2nd game.

The Good Guys have Won!!!

Enough politics.

There may be some programs that come close to the pageantry of Longhorn football, but not many. Ohio St's dotting the "i" doesn't hold a candle to the spinning Texas flag. Tceh's masked rider is cool, but they don't have much else. The gooner schooner is cute, but doesn't measure up. Colorado's Ralphy is pretty awesome. Aggy...well, never mind.

It's GREAT seeing the game day atmosphere back. GREAT job, students & all who participated. After the game there were 105K+ (well, excluding 5K from Alabama, 100K+) people proudly singing The Eyes. I haven't heard it sung so loudly since the 2006 Rose Bowl. From my living room in SA it was quite impressive. Thanks to all who participated including people in the stands.

And a few of our other lovely new (Freshman) cheerleaders chosen at random--no slight to the many that were left off, it's just that there were too many of them to put in one post without it being ridiculously long...:

Chop.
If you are unfamiliar with the UNT band, you should indulge yourself soon. The school of music at UNT is among the very, very best in the land, and the marching band does it's part to uphold that standard.

UNT was on my daughter’s list of alternates if she couldn’t get into UT. Agree about the school of music there.

UNT's music program is first class and well respected.
Most serious students do not join the marching band. It is a nice band but not a top marching band.

They're quite good, but I'm not saying Top 10 good.
Our UT halftime shows have been noticeably better than this.

One tradition that I miss is the LHB doing the “Power Up” entrance to DKR for the pre-game show (marching in to a drum cadence that gradually gets faster). The video below (from the 2016 Notre Dame game) is the best one I’ve seen for the Power Up entrance. (Best if you can watch this on a big screen and a good sound system)

That drum cadence rocks the house.

The same is true everywhere. There are almost no music majors in any college marching band, including UT.
UNT's marching band has a higher percentage of music majors than most college bands, simply because the same is true about the university.

Note the high cheekbones and the pronounced jaw on nearly all of these cheerleaders. You see the same on female ballet dancers. It signifies a strong skeletal build.

Precisely, and that's what people mostly look at when they see cheerleaders. And the aerial body control--very similar as between ballet and cheerleading.

:beertoast:

All jesting aside, both cheerleaders and ballerinas are athletes. The ballerinas are also artists. And some of the male cheerleaders could probably kick most men's a$$e$.

The rise and fall of popular girls names over the decades is really something to note with a fascinating amusement.

So...............where have all the Jennifers, Lauras, and Theresas gone???
(oh yeah, they're the moms of all the McKenzies, Brooklyns, and Landrys)
