AP Poll

For me my only goal is playing for (and winning) the CCG. I never thought we’d earn into the playoff birth and do not now think they’re playoff caliber. Getting to the championship game

We lost points in AP and coaches poll. This suggests eyeball test matters and screwing up a prime time game mattered...mucher more than just being 9-1.

Weren't we whining about roughly the same things during the Major/Simms years? Nitpicking the little things that kept us from the perfect season, until that year that they didn't?
SN, here’s the difference for me. I don’t remember a season when we had such a level of talent yet but couldn’t take care of business week to week. At least in those Major/Simms years — with talent no better, and probably slightly inferior to what we have now — we would occasionally blow some people away. When you can’t handle teams like Houston and TCU, that’s a red flag. And, of course, we really haven’t blown anyone away with the possible exceptions of Kansas (our only 40 point game) and maybe BYU.

As I know you know, Sark keeps saying that we haven’t played our best game yet. The problem is, we have not improved either since Alabama. That’s another red flag.

Except when we would roll into Dallas and leave with a 66-13 beat down by the land theives.
Sometimes it seemed we didn't even practice the week before.

This season reminds me of 2008 to some extent, as I have said before. How will it continue? First, Horns win out. Second, Bama wins out, defeating Georgia in the SEC CCG. Thus, Bama takes our spot in the CFP (like OU did in 2008). The good news in my scenario is that Texas wins out for the rest of the season.

Seminoles get jumped.

Aggy would give their first born, 8 sheep, 4 goats, a dozen chickens, and 2 fat sows to be ranked 7th. They might even trade granny for a ‘65 ford country squire station wagon if the ac works to be where we are.

That's an awful lot of dating pool material...you sure they would part with that many potential partners?

Texas and Alabama was settled on the field. Unless Bama blew the doors off of Georgia, I just don't think Bama jumps Texas in the committee.

The only issue is if they use the criteria of if they played on a neutral field TODAY, who would win? The way Alabama is playing right now, they are the better team.

The problem with Texas is, we're not consistent on offense. With the talent level we have, we should be scoring 40+ a game. I'm not sure I've seen a game this season where we were dominant for all 4 quarters.

We need the craziest of scenarios to make the CFP. Even Greg McElroy mentioned the CFP committee hasn't been completely consistent in their rankings. In some cases, they are using Strength of Record, some cases, Strength of Schedule and in other scenarios, the Eye Test. They're putting Oregon ahead of us because Oregon looks far more dominant than us.

  • OSU-Michigan - one will drop. I don't see the other dropping a game anywhere else
  • Washington and Oregon have to play Pac12 championship, unless Oregon drops their game v Oregon State and Arizona beats ASU. Either way, one drops. Oregon only lost by 3 to Washington in the regular season.
  • FSU v Louisville in the ACC championship - FSU still won handily after Travis left the game with the leg injury. Louisville will be tougher.
  • Bama v Georgia - That's rough. If Bama wins, you would hope, the committee favors a potential B12 champ Texas over a non-conference winner Georgia in the CFP.
The way this plays out, I really think you're looking at an undefeated Ohio State, Washington, and Georgia. The problem is what you do with FSU, Texas and Bama. If FSU beats Louisville, they are in. If Louisville wins, then it's Texas in the 4 spot.

8 of the top 25 are current or future SEC teams. Interesting.

I agree with Chop about Kansas. Kansas and KState have upped their game.

From an earlier post, my question remains, where is A&M?

Remember this: In 2024, A&M's Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, etc. will be against Texas. They have not forgotten 2011. I believe Texas will be ready.

I think Louisville beats FSU with their QB out. That means Texas in at 4. I hope OSU beats OU too.
Don’t assume that FSU beats Florida in the swamp Saturday, particularly with their quarterback out. Napier desperately needs a win to right the ship and stop the recruit mass exodus.

Washington is more impressive than Michigan to me. I also think we would beat Michigan. They seem plodding. They have a good defense and average offense. Their schedule has been weak. I don’t think fsu wins out.
If we win out we can make a great case for the 4 spot.

That doesn't guarantee it. The CFP committee could love Louisville's 1-loss season including a last game victory over undefeated FSU more than our 1-loss season with a CCG victory over somebody like OSU.

I hope you are kidding. There is no way this would happen. Every other factor points the other way -- SOS, strength of conference, best win, worst loss, name. The committee wouldn't even have a serious discussion about this, much less pull the trigger.

The day Louisville is chosen over Texas for major bowl or CFP without a material advantage is the day I will be happy to pass on to the next life.

I haven't but the committee has (see Oregon with no wins over current top 25 teams).

the committee remembers. That's the only reason we are ranked ahead of Alabama. Oregon just looks better. our strength of record/schedule doesn't matter to them as much as the eye test.

Bo Nix would shred our defense on a neutral field.
