AP Poll

We see the difference - season compare vs now compare and playoff vs invitational.

Yeah its never been an actual playoff. This year was a weird one with as many undefeated and one loss teams. The fact that there has ever been a committee voting on who to include proves its never been a true playoff. As many pundits have stated, college football has always been a beauty pageant. This year it was highlighted as such. Luckily next year it will be much more an actual playoff.

I suspect with 12 teams, the top 4-8 will sit starters in the last ball game or two. 12 team playoff will render college football to be boring at the end of the season.

Based on the rankings the committee determined that FSU isn't one the top 4 teams in the country right now, which is probably true. But they think they are still good enough to beat Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon? Laughable.

You are oversimplifying what is — and has to be — a multi-factor analysis. There is no inconsistency in saying that FSU’s injury and subsequent poor play justify dropping them below 2 conference champions with only one loss and a much better SOS (Texas and Alabama), but not enough to justify dropping them below 2 teams that are similarly situated except that they didn’t win their conference (Georgia and Ohio State).
