2025 Recruiting - WBB

Certainly one of Horns BMDs has an extra $1 million laying around. What better way to truly make Texas WBB the face of women’s sports in the South..if not country. I find it crazy that someone will not step up. Wish Red was still alive….bet he’d do it in a second. $1 million in advertisements and exposure is easy to recoup. So I’m thinking someone….maybe one of ya’ll on this board already has the bag of $$ ready. Chavez is simply waiting until maximum exposure time to affirm.
Our programs are better off without Red McCombs. Yes, lots of money, but he forced a number of bad decisions. Is it a coincidence that Sark is succeeding post Red?

Eleven days with no post about Chavez is too long. With dirt burglars, TTech playing poorly……and Horns looking good last night……sure hope Chavez is paying attention. Horns need to beat TN and others, then play well against SC and LSU, and perhaps Schaefer can get the message over to Chavez.

Really hoping Chavez and her family can make their way down to Austin for the South Carolina and/or LSU games which are both on Sundays. Neither would conflict with any of her high school games. Could be the last time we get her on campus before the Spring signing period.

I read an article that stated UCLA was out of the top 5 and she was still be pursued by SC Texas TTU and OU. However at senior night game only schools present were Texas OU and TTU. From Tech fans they say she is a lock already living in “new home” sounds like she is just wasting schools time if that is the case.

TTech is 14-10, but 3-8 in B12. Pretty well how they’ve performed recently. Play directional schools early to pad record, then crater in conference. I watched TT game vs Colorado and they are terrible. Cant believe they can recruit the portal enough to get good for next year. Just can’t visualize a top player wanting to play there. Yep…..hometown and NIL but still can’t see it. Of course, ANYTHING is possible now that LUKA has been traded. That’s an impossibility than became reality. Irrational people.

It is hard to imagine she wants to play there but money does weird things to people. Chavez alone can’t turn that program around but she for sure makes any program better. I don’t understand why she is signing late in spring. IMO it is just a little selfish on her part. But maybe she just wants to focus on hs season and try one last time for a state ship. I get that.

I think they've overplayed their hand.

As much as I'd love to have Chavez, I have a feeling we won't get her. If Tech gave $1M to a softball pitcher, surely they'll do the same for Aaliyah. I dunno... Guess we'll find out soon enough. We'll be fine either way.

Tech can only get their revenge in this recruitment. Perhaps she will portal here down the road.

I'd rather see her at tech than some place she could hurt Texas. At tech about the worst she could do is face Texas in the 1st or 2nd round of the tourney. It would truly suck if she ended up at blowu.

All I know about her character is the long, dramatic process this recruitment has taken. And maybe that's on the family and not her. But I'm not sure I having an "annointed" player with the supersized NIL is good for team integration and cohesion. Suppose she tells Vic, "Sorry coach, can't make practice. Have to head to LA this week for a photo shoot. Be back Thursday." I'm not saying that's going to happen. That's just a made up example that a (potential) superstar might not be worth the effort it would take to have her.

I got over worrying about whether or not she’ll come to Texas some time ago. Be great to have her in Austin that’s for sure. I can’t help think as great as that’d be it will come at a price in some other way. Vic seems game to take it on, so I’ll trust him on this.

If not Texas I’d be ok if she went to Tech as I would prefer not facing her in conference games. Plus I don’t think Tech is capable of putting the pieces together around her to make it to the top with the current regime.

Of the schools left on her list, Texas and South Carolina would provide the most exposure, best coaching and chances of championships. I would think the family would lean Texas for proximity alone.

On the one hand I understand not making a decision until your Senior season is done and concentrating on winning State which they are capable of doing. On the other, I have to wonder if this is all to put the squeeze on a school to come through financially. I just have to think if she chooses Tech, it’s because they manage to come up with the money (like they did with the softball pitcher).

So back to my original statement I’m glad I got over my handwringing over the matter. It will be interesting to watch her play no matter where.

Agreed. Tech's case is a bit special in that the wife of the couple that donated a big chunk of money to NIL played college softball at Tech.

And when I run across recruitment news about Chavez, I say to myself, "Oh yeah, I forgot. She still hasn't announced. Oh well."

I’ve seen zero indicating she’s a diva. Certainly she’s taking a different path than normal. Is it wrong? Have no idea. Not ideal for us fans. TBD for her (and family). Continued exposure and maximized NIL are the factors per my best guesses. The high school season and continuity of college coaches not big.

Chavez showed such promise early in high school that it does seem she’s been in recruiting news forever. With so much NIL money involved it’s understandable that she would wait. I would love to see her come to Austin

All I know is if I lived in Lubbock and intended to play for the Longhorns, I would wait as long as possible to announce it.
Sangre….exactly. It could get testy with the locals with a Horn commitment early. Good strategy to delay that sucker to last minute and leave on a midnight train to Austin.

I think if Chavez comes here, and Kyla Oldacre stays here another year, we could win the national championship. I think her commitment might also help us fill our portal needs. I think we have very good team this year, but I think its a long shot to win the national championship given the depth of players that UCLA and USC have. Of course, this is just my non expert opinion.

I think the success of Oldacre this year means Vic needs to pick up a #2 Big for next year. The one we've had on the bench for 2 years ain't going to be it next year.

Bigs are getting harder and harder to find it seems. Obviously, any backup to Oldacre for next season would need to be acquired from the transfer portal. Not many established players want to be backups even for just one season as Oldacre would move on in 2026.

Maybe freshman Adhel Tac at South Carolina will decide she wants to return to the state of Texas in order to be closer to her family. Just me with some wishful thinking; nothing I've come across t insinuate she is unhappy at SC.

I'd take Adhel Tac, Brea Cunningham, or Aaliyah Del Rosario in a New York minute at the Five. I'm also covering Stanford's Nunu Agara at the Power Forward spot.

Casting the net a little wider, there are a couple of young physical specimens at UCF that I feel have huge upsides to be developed. As you said, Moooooo, true bigs are really becoming a novelty these days. We may need to consider recruiting internationally, if we're not already.

The one I'm all in for is Olivia Vukosa. For me she is the must have recruit. Before someone points it out I know she is 2026 but she is that "must have" post player. Her development is way ahead of schedule in my opinion. So would the influencers in this room get that done plz....:bevo:

Never heard of her until now, but that means nothing. Seems we are in the mix
