2025 Recruiting - WBB

Things are starting to get tight. Tomorrow will be revealing as to Horns strategy/success. Davis would be nice get. If no, then it’s down to Chavez…..with Crump only one. Portal might be more important if Horns go 0-2.

I think we have several empty spaces left for this class. One space will be taken by Rori if she comes back. Portal will be the only answer to fill these spots.

Last day of the early signing period for DI basketball is Wednesday. We'll see what happens...

I don’t like that Tech is the only school she hasn’t posted a “#uncommitted” video from her visit when she did film one. Feels like she is saving it for her announcement. Could be completely wrong but we’ll see.

Horns getting in on Davis late…..it was probably a losing battle from the start. Losing on the Cali forward to LSU perhaps initiated the Davis conversations. Now the cupboard is a little sparse. Guess it’s Chavez or nothing. Still hopeful.

I'm not sure that's the case. Knox barely announced her LSU choice a couple of weeks ago, and Davis visited Texas two months ago.

What they both had in common is that they committed to the school where they took their first official visit. Maybe that will be what Chavez does and sign with Texas!

Danny Davis with Austin American Statesman had a nice article on WBB tonight. Crump was a focus. It also discussed Davis going to KS and Chavez. If you have access, it’s a good read.

In looking at ESPNW, they are only 2 of the top 100 recruits for 2025 not committed. Chavez at #1 and Agot Makeer at #4. Don’t believe Horns in for Makeer.

Judging from all I have observed, it seems to me that Chavez may be looking for something that Vic won't guarantee... that being Rori Harmon's departure after this season. If I were Vic, I wouldn't guarantee it either. Rori is a special player, and if she wants to return she absolutely will... and I fully expect her to do so.

The situation has apparently created a domino effect in OU's recruiting. Hoopgurlz #29 Keeley Parks, PG from Norman HS, seemed to have waited until the last minute to sign with Kansas yesterday. That says to me that maybe she was waiting to see what Chavez was going to do. Of course this is all speculation on my part, but it does seem quite coincidental.

The state of Oklahoma had eight players ranked in the ESPN Top 100 for 2025 and only signed one. Some of their fans are not pleased about that. All their hopes are riding on signing Chavez but, as one fan put it, if it comes down to a money grab they don't feel good about their chances.

Even if Rori should choose to leave, every recruit (regardless of their ranking) is going to have to compete for their positions next year. I don't think Vic guarantees anything, other than commiting to developing student athletes to their full potential as long as they're willing to trust the process and do the work. That's how it ought to be.

Personally, I'm over the whole thing... been over it actually. If Chavez comes to UT that's great, and if she doesn't that's great too. She and her family will do what they feel best serves their interests.

It’s fun….kinda…..in speculating on what’s going on with Chavez. Several programs are being held captive waiting on her decision. Some can afford to wait it out……based on close knowledge. Some cant and have to go ahead and sign a point guard. Texas with another year of Harmon and Preston aren’t in the very worst position. Not the best either. Eventually everyone gets tired of recruiting one player. Stamina is a real issue…..almost as much as NIL. I’m getting to my limit. Not yet. But close.

I actually think Kansas started upping their NIL for women's hoops. Landing Keeley Parks and Jaliya Davis took away two of OU's main recruiting targets for 2025. I don't think Parks' decision had anything to do with Chavez.

Every recruit is on their own timetable. No recruit is obligated to verbally commit or sign their LOI until the end of the Spring signing period in April/May. Heck, Sabrina Ionescu never even signed an LOI; she enrolled at Oregon pretty much when summer classes began and signed one of those ASA's (athletic scholarship agreements) that a recruit signs if they didn't sign an LOI by the deadline.

If a school doesn't want to "wait" for a recruit, they are not obligated to do so.

Maybe... maybe not.

So, what observations led to that conclusion? It's not like Chavez gives many interviews. And, it's not like Rori is a scoring point guard, or known for her 3-point shooting; seems like she and Chavez have very different skill sets, and Chavez has the length to also play SG or even W in a small lineup.

Purely speculation based on timing, comments in pressers, etc.

Would those less forgetful than I please recall when two Top 5 HS recruits (Chavez #1 and Makeer #4) deferred to the regular April signing period?

This seems unusual, but perhaps it's not. I realize that they can announce a verbal commitment at any time.

Another question: when does the new ASA procedure go into effect, next academic year or now? Interestingly, the Texas Aliyah Crump announcement did not explicitly say she signed a NLI.

I imagine Texas will manage this better than most schools, but not knowing for certain if an ASA signee will show up at Texas or a rival is going to take a little getting used to.

Chavez had 34 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks in a 66-62 win over Conway, Arkansas in the Duncanville Holiday Hoopfest tonight.

I have a feeling Chavez is going Tha Boot (LSU). I been quiet but my Twitter and instagram stocking makes me think LSU was never out of it and she is going to LSU!
