2025 Recruiting - WBB

Not sure I read NIL into her comments. Of course it is huge. Everyone is trying to “read between the lines”. The biggest is “her game”. If that’s all being considered……land thieves more closely align with her current modus operandi. It’s hard to change your spots. Just don’t see her and Schaefer co-existing to change her game. Texas was only school focused on academics. Not sure academics focus carries difference making weight. I’m hoping….but hope is not a good strategy. I’m rationalizing and looking forward to success without her.

I think she should go where ever she is comfortable. Hope she doesn't become that player that leave a program if she doesn't get her way. It would be nice if she would make a decision so we all can just move on.

Is UT still recruiting anyone other than Chavez?
I think there is one other player in the top 50 recruits who has not committed yet. So if Chavez does not come, we only have one player in this class. Disappointing.

Also a continued lack to recruit elite post players from high school that are 6'3" or taller. All we have is Taylor and Oldacre and that's it.

Wondered where Chavez-Monterrey was. Last year or two they played in a Christmas tournament in DFW. This year they played in some early DFW very competitive tournaments and bypassed Christmas. Apparently chose to stay closer to home this year.

I think Chavez overplayed her hand.

Looking at the way Preston has spelled Harmon, I've literally (true) forgotten that we were/are in the chase for Chavez.

I absolutely agree. When Preston obtains a little playing maturity, she is going to be the next great thing!

I think it’s one thing to say “if we don’t get her we are fine” or even “I don’t want to play the bidding war”. But make no mistake. Chavez makes any team better. And if she isn’t a Longhorn she makes our competition better. Do we NEED her? No, I guarantee you we want her.

I dont think she overplayed her hand at all. Im betting the the school she is going to already knows it. For whatever her reasons she has chosen to wait till spring. It happens in football all the time.
For my money it is either tech or the sooners.
As Ive mentioned before her game and Vick's psyche would not get along.

She is a ball dominant guard. We already have one for next year.

Her game has lots of what Al McGuire called ( French Pastry).
I can just see Vic's face as Chavez runs back down the court after turning the ball over attempting a between the legs behind the back pass into the stands.

If you guys didnt appreciate Hailey Van Lith's yacking after Louisville beat us in the tourney then you wont like Chavez . Unless of course because she's on our side we may give her a pass. Some of her on court antics border on taunting.

If somehow Vic pulls this one out and she lands here , her shooting is going to relegate Preston to #3 in the pecking order. Her shooting would be that valuable.

Having spewed all that. This is recruiting and it could change daily.
But I'm sticking with her and the school know.

I too would like to see this recruitment (Aaliyah Chavez) end. But I think those who think we don't need her now maybe should think that through. Texas still need to continue to WIN OUR STATE. Justice was just our first piece but we can't stop there. I trust our coaching staff and their recruiting decisions. I believe if she comes here she knows exactly the system she is signing into which is defense first.
I hope she wants to play for Texas, but if not I will wish her well.

Harmon, Preston and Chavez are almost totally different point guards. Each have strengths and weaknesses. Preston will be one we enjoy for 4 years; however, not an immediate all-American candidate. Chavez has unique talents. Too lazy to compare the 3 players. If anyone on this board has ever complained about lack of three point shooting, then just realize that Chavez would immediately make Horns weakness turn into a strength. Nuff said.

Preston is fast and athletic. But, as far as shooting and scoring, she is not Aaliyah Chavez.

She's probably going to Oklahoma anyway. Vic will not get in a bidding war over her.

I can't say that is or is not true since I don't know. But, if Vic was willing to drop out of the race, we'd have heard about it. I continue to see Coach Lovato include clips of Chavez in her IG stories (including one yesterday); so, I think that speaks volumes of our current interest, and vice versa.

Exactly. If her high school scoring and shooting translates at the college level, she would solve so many of our offensive deficiencies.

If we lose an elite in-state player like her to an out-of-state school, that's disappointing for so many reasons. If we lose her to Tech, well that's a bit more understandable as we all know they will move heaven and earth to land her.

If Vic believed that, he and his staff would not have spent so much time and effort the last few years recruiting her.

We do not have a guard like her on our roster; she is a scoring point guard. Can't even remember the last one we had; maybe Brooke McCarty. Chavez also has the size and shooting range to play shooting guard (which Rori does not).

Agree on all points. She's the kind of offensive player who you would go to time and time again when you need a basket, especially a 3-point shot in crunch time. All the attention she would draw defensively would open up the interior for our post players. She has a chance to impact the game as a true freshman similar to Juju, Hidalgo, Flau'jae, and Booker, to name a few.

I would love to hear the recruiting messaging that Schaefer has for Chavez. Is the following possible? I can see a guard lineup of Harmon/Chavez/Lee/Preston (in no particular order) with Crump working in at 3. Devastating to play against. Booker in that would be a four position. Is that attractive to Chavez? Perhaps. Perhaps not. I’m thinking Harmon is coming back. It seems in my fair and biased opinion that Chavez is closely watching the year unfold and all relevant information. And team successes. A good reason for beating dirt burglars last week. Mooo is correct…..signs are there saying Schaefer is still recruiting Chavez hard. The season could be real successful if we beat SC at least once…..and LSU. Those games could be huge factors In Chavez decision. Two-thirds of season remaining so right now don’t see a Chavez decision until it’s over. Right now I’ll accept a win over a good Alabama team up next.

Reasons Nation’s No. 1 high school recruit Aaliyah Chavez could choose South Carolina

There have also been reports that South Carolina, like LSU will not pay her the $1M she is looking for. Also, her parents want to go to the games. It would logistically hard to regularly attend home games if she played there. Possibly USC or UCLA could be a late suitor, but I bet she says close to home: Tech, OU, or Texas.

Southern Cal was in her final 12 or so, but did not make the final cut. She visited UCLA officially in the Fall.

Certainly one of Horns BMDs has an extra $1 million laying around. What better way to truly make Texas WBB the face of women’s sports in the South..if not country. I find it crazy that someone will not step up. Wish Red was still alive….bet he’d do it in a second. $1 million in advertisements and exposure is easy to recoup. So I’m thinking someone….maybe one of ya’ll on this board already has the bag of $$ ready. Chavez is simply waiting until maximum exposure time to affirm.

Having been born and raised in Lubbock, and knowing a BMD family, I’m supposing the Tech BMDs will likely offer to pay her not to go to Texas..whether that is legal or not.

Exactly! Never underestimate the pettiness in Lubbock/Texas Tech. I still think declaring late is not a good sign for Tech (especially if she’s picking Texas).

I can definitely spin things in many directions. As for Tech, if she wanted to go to Tech and help resurrect their program, it sure would have been in her best interest to sign with them early so the coaching staff could use that momentum and try to surround her with some talented players (which is not the case with their projected 2025-26 roster).

I'm still not sure whether or not to believe that $1 million is a requirement to gain her signature. If it is, then no school must have ponied up in the Fall. Or, maybe all five of finalists did and now it's a bidding war . . .
