2025 Recruiting - WBB

Monterey was up 15 at the half. Chavez went scoreless in third quarter. Frisco Memorial was up one mid-fourth but Chavez and Cole held on with late free throws.

Interesting that someone like Blake Munroe of On3Sports' On Texas Football who mainly covers Longhorns men's recruiting went to Abilene to watch Aaliyah in person. Even more interesting, perhaps even significant, that her Dad, Sonny Chavez broke the news to Blake of Aaliyah's announcement date. While it's not necessarily a guarantee she will select Texas, it could be telling that the Texas Longhorns site broke this news based on direct conversation with the Chavezes.

Well we know who won’t make the Sweet 16, much less the Field of 68

Krista Gerlich is in her 5th season at Texas Tech with a 3-14 conference record in a weaken Big 12 (only Houston, 1-15, has a worst record). Moreover, with only 3 conference wins, it'll be the worst in Gerlich's tenure. I don't even see how she survives after this season.

Shoot. I was hoping to see Krista scomper for 40.
Totally on brand for Gerlich. If Texas Tech was anywhere near serious about their WBB program, they would have dumped her already. Surely they see through the smoke & mirrors of her cupcake nonconference schedule to pad their abysmal record every year. A mainstay on the first day of the conference tournament.

Will Vic be able to be in San Antonio tomorrow for Chavez’ state championship game at 11:00am? Fire up the jet! Lol

The schedules don’t look great for UCLA, Tech or South Carolina to be able to make it, but not impossible for Staley.

I would think at least one of Lovato, Blair or Vic will be in San Antonio today and tomorrow.
I’ll be the first to admit I have no clue what the team practice schedule would be coming off a Thursday night road game for an early Sunday afternoon game that basically starts 24 hours after Chavez’ game ends. But I bet you’re correct that all or some of those coaches will be there.

It would be cool if the whole Texas team and staff were in attendance for Chavez's state championship game.

It definitely would be! If the State tourney was still being held in Austin, it would be much easier. But, with it being in San Antonio, each of our players would be responsible for paying for their own transportation and tickets to the games.

Fun a it is to bash TT, I have to have a bit of sympathy for KG. It must be a bitter disappointment that she was not able to bring TT back to the national relevance and admiration that she and the program enjoyed as a player. Portal, NIL, transfers, conference realignment, etc., etc...it 's tough to succeed nationally with bunch of nice kids, many from small town West Texas. Old enough to remember the days when entire towns shut down to go to Gregory Gym for the UIL championships. Maybe a BMD will adopt the program ...:texasflag:

Sorry not sorry. When we played LSU a couple of weeks back, I introduced myself to visiting fans and congratulated them on their terrific players and close game. I even offered restaurant suggestions. Whenever I have ventured to Waco or Lubbock, I was always met with unkindness and poor sportsmanship. Wish I could say that’s an exaggeration, but the horns down and the generic Austin and UT homophobic slurs were very real.

I’m not saying Chavez is coming to Texas, but I would certainly understand why she would keep quiet about it if she is.
