IMO, this will be 3 straight years of being ranked top 3 (HS+portal)*.

* combined HS + portal rankings were not done prior to this year. Last year Texas was 3rd ranked (HS only) and two years ago Texas was ranked 5th (HS only). But 2 years ago, Texas pulled in Ewers, Keilan, Watts, and Neyor from the portal.

There’s reason to believe that Sark is getting virtually everybody he wants, regardless of the star rankings. And frankly, he and the Texas staff know a heck of a lot more than the services do. So in my mind, this class and the previous two classes are comprised of hand selected players that we wanted to build a dominant program.

Contrast that to what the Aggies did with their 2022 class. Supposedly the greatest of all time, but apparently they were mostly “independent contractors” that could not come together as a team.

Picture becomes clearer after the portal and spring ball. We still want a portal receiver and edge rusher. Plus we're still a little lite at DT..
The only problem with the redshirts is their want to play or move to somewhere they can play and do not realize RS is a one year deal. Another issue on his daily to-do list - keep everyone happy to be Longhorn.

Nobody chooses to redshirt. Really, who wants to stay in college 5 years? That said, Sweatt came in at 275 and left at 365. A year of proper training on an 18 YO is monster. Even skill guys who dont need big weight gain have played against generally poor competition compared to SEC or even Big XII players. They are faster stronger, there are fewer physical mismatches to pad stats. Throwing/receiving windows shrink from a yard to a foot. Getting double teamed every play wears a brother down. The most overlooked thing is the most obvious. Sixty minutes compared to forty eight. Big F’in deal. Number of plays is even more exaggerated. High school almost never runs hurry up. Seventy defensive snaps vs. 35, monster difference. Tired players get hurt.Sixty five percent of injuries occur later in possessions. The secret is keeping developing players engaged. Part of the process. As they recognize the contribution of being a challenging practice player, everybody improves. Culture! Let everybody feel like a contributing member of TEAM. Kick off coverage becomes a chance to shine vs. a BS have to do it chore. Sark has got it. Big time. DKR would smile lage.

I think Sark is the reason why our team is not "independent contractors". He has set the vision, the culture and convinced his players of the purpose. Also, he was not afraid to move past those who didn't buy in, even if it led to a 5-7 season.

EDGE guy from UTSA

He was an edge at UTSA but I wouldn’t be surprised if he played more at linebacker for Texas. He runs pretty well and is more linebacker size than de in the sec and he is a good inside blitzer. Plus lb is his best chance at the next level.

Kind of reminds me of UT basketball, where for a while, we got a bunch of high-star guys ranked as high as the Kansas guys, but Kansas got exactly who they wanted, and we could not keep up.
Sark is doing that now, and there’s a good chance we are about to hang a championship banner that would catapult us to one of the top brands in the world as far as NIL, etc., going into the SEC.

Wiltfong of 247 on DT Dominick McKinley.

Important to remember he has a direct line to Elko, so it's significant if he doesn't think A&M will win out.
