2024/25 Portal Transfers

On UCF DT Lee Hunter...

IT saying he's visiting Lubbock today and he's already received a prediction to Tech.

He's supposed to be in Austin tomorrow, but it appears things are moving fast in Tech's favor for now and they're being very aggressive in the portal overall.

Tech must have found some serious money for this transfer. I can't believe it to be honest. Not that they have money for onesies and twosies here and there, but that they went all in and got him signed. AND that he wants to move to Lubbock.

I know some people REALLY hate the transfer portal. I get it. But I'm not opposed to it in general, just the wild west of it.

Here's what I wish...
- 1 transfer for no cause (bigger school, more money, girlfriend chasing)
- 1 additional transfer for cause (lose scholarship or head coach leaves)
- 1 grad transfer (has to go to graduate degree program)
- No mid-year transfers. Only May. This more than anything. Changes between the season and bowls/playoffs is bad for the game in general.

This portal will get worse unless somehow something is done about it. It is going to take brave schools to not accept portal transfers. I cannot see it changing through legislation or the NCAA. Neither of these avenues have the backbone to alter this trend. It would be nice to see a coach deny transfers into his program. Probably a p[pe dream.

Not going to deny entry portals simply because of self preservation. But something has to be done about the timing. More and more coaches are speaking out about it. The whole thing stinks.

Teams should trade their slots - just like the NFL.

The major conferences have to set the rules.

No coach or school would ever take the moral high ground in this and refuse to participate - that would be a self-inflicted mortal wound that would get you a texas aggy-like record and get you shown the door.

This has to be done at the Conference head-shed or (dare I say it) NCAA level to fix/modify/correct.

For now it’s a runaway train and America is birthing 100’/1,000’s of teenagers with net worth profiles greater than most posters on this board. That’s depressing.
