A "standout soccer player"? Can he also kick field goals and extra points?

Interesting read on ESPN sports about how Texas Tech dominated the transfer portal this go round. I'm sure Texas has all the same processes and approaches in place, but my takeaway is 1) you must have big donor commitments, 2) you must have a general manager and staff that use a very detailed systematic approach for player evaluation and 3) you must have a coaching staff that can sell the total package exceptionally well. Obviously Texas checks each of these boxes.

In the case of Tech they have one primary donor (Cody Campbell) who is all in to make Tech a national player and has an endless supply of cash to help make this work. Texas should excel in this ever evolving player recruitment process, but trying to win every recruiting battle by throwing endless cash at players doesn't seem to make sense as their are a handful of Cody Campbell's out there who will end up out bidding you.

Sark's approach is very thoughtful and balanced.....and while we may end up losing a few targeted players, winning championships is always the final goal.

To me, it seems impossible to build a truly cohesive locker room culture when your team is chock full of mercenary players.

That a roster has a handful isn't a big deal, but as aggy demonstrated, too much of that stuff is poisonous.

Absolutely. He hadn't been at A&M a month when he said it was a sleeping giant, but the problem was too many [players on too many different pay scales. Rumor was that he talked at length with Barry about how to "unionize" the players. Once he implemented that, the Aggies started winning, and he beat us four years in a row.
