2023 Volleyball

The team showed tremendous pride, grit and poise last night. They were not being embarrassed, they were being humiliated in the first set and could have easily quit when BYU hit 20. They didn't and made it a semi respectable set. Then they flipped a switch and won 3 in a row. Hopefully they can deal with the slow starts we have seen all year and do it again tonight.

Seems like a bad overturned call to me. The ball initially hit out of bounds, whether the back end of ball hit the line as the ball compressed is irrelevant.

Good win against a good KU team. Looks like the vollyball refs are taking their cue from the big 12 football refs...just saying.

I'm reading that Saturday's match will be a record sellout in Houston. I think this will be a tough match for us. Houston kinda played us tough last year in Austin and I'm expecting much of the same. I am encouraged that there will be alot burnt orange in attendance too.

Official attendance of 7054! My money says this probably was a record crowd for Cougar High volleyball!
Embrace the Hate as Del Conte says!
I do wish the Greg was a little larger though!!

That figure is confusing. One end of arena was 25% filled at most, and pockets of empties throughout. I was watching on TV but I am confused by a sellout having that many empty seats.

Not only a Houston volleyball attendance record, it was the largest crowd in ANY women’s sporting event at UH

They kept saying sellout on the broadcast but from my sofa it looked like a lot of empty seats in there

I agree plus capacity for the Fertita center, formally Hofheinz pavilion, shows to be 7100? Wonder how they account for the 7054 attendance record?? Maybe everyone not in there seat is out buying beer??

Don’t be too surprised we announce sell outs at DKR (and Gregory) when you can see, albeit quite fewer in G, numerous empty seats.

I understand the season ticket holders that don't show up will still be counted as a sold ticket. From what I could see, each end of the court was at about 20-25% capacity. Except for the floor seats, wouldn't those seats be general admission?

Give them credit-- there was a great crowd but it seemed they were overhyping the 'sellout"

I personally like the "hype" of a sellout. If they sold 7000 seats good for them and good for Texas Volleyball. Our Women are the Show no matter the sport so I'll take it.
Just wait till we get to our new conference...its gonna be crazy for all our sports teams, home and away games.
Another great game Ladies! Love the way Madi and Emma are leading this team. :bevo:

Having a high quality setter is a necessity if you intend to be nationally competitive. When you have one who happens to be more than six feet tall, it becomes an incredible luxury.

I know I'm a bit bias but Ella is fast becoming one of the best setters I've seen this year, Which I beleive is a big reason we are on this streak. The connections with everyone is impressive. Serves, digs and footwork for anyone, let alone a 6'3 setter, is, like I said is impressive.

Texas down 2-1 at TCU. Melanie Parra is having a game! And for some reason, Texas has continued to serve to Parra no matter where she’s at and she’s making perfect passes through the first three sets. It boggles the brain. The announcers say she has a 2.71 passer rating (out of 3.0) and they don’t understand it either

finally: I absolutely hate TCU’s arena for volleyball and basketball.

TCU sets volleyball attendance record tonight at 7,412

Totally agree with you about that floor...sigh

It was almost like an electrical jolt when the picture first showed of the arena- it did not get much better. Also the lines seemed small and difficult to see. Hopefully it was easier from the floor.

That court of course is for a home court advantage, but it should be illegal. Texas let 2 float to the ground when they couldn't see the lines. Shame.

Melanie should have stayed at Texas. Jenna isn't getting it done and neither is Devin. Even Molly isn't the difference maker needed. I don't know if Byrd would be better, but the half *** attacks from Jenna come right back in your face, and that's how Swindle got hurt. Not to mention all the free balls and tip overs at the net. I'd rather see a hard attack hit out than a free ball returned and Molton tattooed to the forehead.

I give them some serious credit for effort though. I didn't think they would win after the 3rd set, but they pulled it out. That's some serious fight despite all the bad play.
