2023 Volleyball

Loved, loved, loved seeing Parra out there last night looking like she was really having fun, while also playing a whale of a game. I am still disappointed we didn't do more to keep her here after last season, but I am not on the inside so I don't actually know if we could have done anything at all.

This isn't the first time the team has come out slow. It was a nice surprise to watch the comeback against a ranked team. Maybe they should spot good teams two sets up front and just get going...or at least pretend to spot them two sets...

Another 3 set in a row- this time on the front end. team showed a lot of grit in the first set

I was thinking this team was going to finish top 8, but top 4 is looking more likely.

KSU in Manhattan and UCF in Orlando could be tough. Either could end up like ISU in Ames last year.
LHN during the second match showed how Texas had the toughest schedule in the country for matches played to date, but future schedule strength drops significantly after the Baylor series.

Don't think that takes into account how much everyone really wants to beat us on our way out the door...

Someone give me a scenario that gets us into top 4. I don't see one. "If" we win out I'm not seeing how that gets us there.

Winning out will not be enough. Will need some more of the “Arizona States” upsetting the “Stanfords” for that to happen.

Think Nebraska, Wisconsin, and even Stanford (barring two or more upset losses) are locked. Washington State is most vulnerable but they’ve got us head to head. Going to be hard to creep past them. But losses happen…

Wash St. lost at home to 150+ ranked Oregon State. That helps.

That is an absolutely horrible loss for WSU. #161 in the RPI, 7-13 record for OSU and WSU was at home. IMO, that should knock you out of the 5-8 range (regional #2 seed).

We need a lot to happen to get a four seed. Louisville and Oregon have tougher schedules but we probably need them to get an unranked loss or two to pass them. I think #5 is probably our ceiling. We cannot lose the rest of the way if we want Top 4, our schedule is too light with no chances to get an eye popping win. A Kstate or UCF loss would probably keep us in the regional 2 seed line, but any losses to anyone else would be very bad.

This is becoming one of my favorite Longhorn Volleyball teams. I heard a quote on broadcast yesterday from Coach that was something like "we aren't great at any position but we are very good everywhere"....I like that.
Very nice business trip Ladies! :bevo:

As other teams had issues, hosting a regional was in their grasp. Then the entire team was off..

Kansas State did everything right. Our block wasn’t working. Eleven service errors. We rarely led in any of the sets. Team just looked flat.

Exactly what I saw. A team that was flat, no energy, just "showed up". K-State played well, plus just had the lucky bounce, 2 service aces that hit the net and just climbed over. This team needs to be aware that every remaining match is that other team's last shot at them. Hoping this loss becomes their "Iowa St loss" that last year's team had that helped to refocus them into the post-season.

Seems like we get one of these performances pretty much every year.

Agree with what has been said above. Texas just flat and nothing bounced their way whereas the opposite for KSU. Credit to Wildcats for not letting anything hit the floor.

Akana had a career high in service errors (4 of the 11) which is pretty much how the night went for Texas. First win after losing the previous 39 matches to Texas. The atmosphere was near Gregory Gym energy levels…almost

I'm no expert in volleyball so maybe this is just the nature of the game, but it seems Texas teams for the past few seasons have had high numbers of service errors. Is that a sign of the aggressiveness in serving? Those seem to come at critical times as well. If so, almost feel like we should tone down the aggressiveness and just get the ball in play to force the opposition to earn that point. Maybe UT should start a new trend and hire a serving coach.
