2023 Texas Rangers

Unfortunately, Toronto won - so they're now only 1-1/2 games back for the last Wild Card slot. Make-or-break time for the Rangers - not fighting just for the AL West title, but also in a potential battle for the Wild Card.
But is that a Canadian game and a half or a US game and a half?

Sorry, consumed with Horns football post game stuff and family ...

Another L: 9-7.

I got no observations or comments on yet another loss.

Looking at Toronto's schedule, it's pretty easy until the last week of September (2 series with TB). We have a series in Toronto coming up, might be our last chance to secure a spot

2024 is promising. I'd like to get in this year, but that door is closing fast

Well! After going 0-for-4 with 4 Ks, Adolis Garcia leads off the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off homer. Rangers win, 6-5. Seattle lost 6-3 to the Mets. Astros play Yankees tonight and need a W to avoid being swept. Standings right now, pending the Houston game tonight - Mariners at 77-59, Houston 1/2-game back at 77-60, Rangers 1 game back at 76-60. If Houston loses, Texas and Houston in a virtual tie.
Next up: Houston at Texas for four games, Mariner at Reds for three, followed by going to Tampa to play Rays. If Texas can win 2 or 3 of the 4 games and Mariners lose some on the road, the AL West could get very tight.

^And if the Rangers had won half of the games in which they blew save opportunities, the race would already be over. Can't change the past - still have games ahead of them to put it away.

I'm feeling like SEA sweeps CIN and TEX or HOU wins 2 out of 3 so the Mariners can increase their lead. Then TOR has OAK so they ought win all those.

Monday, game tied 5-5 vs Stros. Heaney goes out, Sbarz goes in. Loads the bases, walks in a run. Gives multiple RBI and surrenders 6 runs to put the Rangers in a huge hole.

11-5 in the 7 th. I cannot take anymore of this today. I'm going to go find a chore to do.

I hear you my friend. This season has been a lot of fun but they're running out of gas. The bullpen is not even average. They are serving up batting practice.

My DMN Monday did not have the starting pitcher for tonight (Tues.) listed for the Rangers - only Valdez for Stros (10-9). Anyone know who is the starter?

I'm assuming Scherzer will pitch Wed. vs. Verlander.... hope so. That would be a nice matchup and one I'd LOVE to win.

9-0 Stros in the 3rd. Altuve with 3 HR’s in 3 at bats. 4 HR’s in a row if you count the 9th inning of last night’s game.

August collapse is continuing into September. Every single one of this teams weaknesses that they have managed to cover up during an amazing five month run have just become glaringly obvious and all come to fore at once. Hard to see this team getting to 90 wins and almost impossible to see them in the playoffs based on not winning at least 92.

Blue Jays won last night, which means Rangers don't even have a Wild Card spot anymore! And there's three WC spots nowadays...

Yes but they are still only 3 games behind. Down arrow Yes, but there is a reason the games are played.

Before the season if someone had said they would be 3 games out in the first week of September we would have been offering mental therapy help to that person.

They must be stealing signs again. Anyone else hear the banging of the trash can during his second at bat, 2-1 count?

I was mentioning this to my wife. Poor thing, she has to endure my manic-depression over the Ranger's season. I told her about the sign stealing. I can't believe that our pitching staff is so easy to hit. Maldonado for the Astros hit two home runs and he's batting .188! His career average is .207!

Let's stop for a second before we jump off the ledge.
At the beginning of the season, we all said we'd be very happy to see the Rangers get to .500 this year - and position themselves to be competitive in 2024. They've become competitive a year ahead of schedule. And there is still baseball left to play. The Rangers are still in it for the AL West title and for a Wild Card slot. No need to jump just yet!
Yeh, the recent trend is awful. The bullpen has been exposed (as we feared it eventually would). The key injuries have really hamstrung the team (DeGrom, Jung, Seager twice, etc.) - and still they're in the race in September.
Keep believing - as Yogi said, "It's not over til it's over."
