2023 Texas Rangers

Bullpen lost this one today.

Rangers lost 9 of last 10... let that sink in and sober you Ranger fans. Honestly cannot remember this kind of skid.

I'm just sick.... gotta fire up and get some wins vs. the lowly Mets!

Such a tight race! Mariners have it the easiest today against Oakland. Astros have it the hardest at Boston.

Two runs in the top of ninth to take the lead 4-3, and Leclerc gets the save. A much-needed W to start the series in NY. Astros are comfortable ahead of Boston; Mariners just getting started in Seattle.
Heaney on the hill tomorrow in NY. Gray went 6 innings tonight, Perez, two, and Leclerc for the ninth to get the save. Thus, bullpen should be pretty much full strength if needed tomorrow.

BTW - WorsterMan and I could use some support from the rest of the Ranger zealots - where are you guys when the team really needs us?

Hopefully they've made it through this late season slump and can make a strong run to close out the regular season. Lots of baseball yet to be played.

Rangers get win to start series in New York. For all their struggles in August, they are 17 games over .500 and still have everything left on the table to accomplish. The early season success gave them the room to have an August swoon but it really needs to be behind them now.

Tuesday night at 6:10 we got Heaney (9-6) vs. Jose Quintana (1-5)

I could not locate an ERA for Quintana but I suspect with that record, it ain't very good....

Heaney needs to be sharp. Bullpen is relatively rested after last night. Bats need to get hungry and get some runs on Jose while he is in the game.

Streaks - both winning and losing - are going to happen during a 162-game season. The timing for this losing streak was awful - but no one knew Seattle was going to start on a big winning streak. There is still a month of baseball regular season to go, and the Rangers are definitely in contention. And in all honesty, all of us Ranger fans would have been delighted, when the season started, to see the team near .500 in September - it's a bonus that they are a year or so ahead of schedule on contending.

Rangers up, 1-0, bottom of the seventh, o a HR by Garver. Rangers have 4 hits so far - four, count 'em, four. What happened to the offense?
But I'll be very happy to see the Rangers post a 1-0 win - I'll be happy with any win right now.

Hold your breath - Smith on in the bottom of the eighth, Rangers still holding the lead at 1-0. Need for him to shut it down so Chapman can save it in the ninth.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch - Astros leading Bosox 5-2.

Well, he did it! Simth got three outs in the bottom of eighth without any damage. Rangers now batting in top of nine. An insurance run (or two, or three, or...) would be nice.

Well, I asked for an insurance run, and the Rangers delivered. With men on 1st and 2nd, Mets pitcher uncorks a WP, advancing runners. Duran singles to left, scoring a run. Now 2-0, one out, runners on 1st and 3rd. If Heim can hit the ball to the outfield, it should score another run.

Phooey! Heim lines into a DP, ending the top of ninth. But the lead is now 2-0, handing the ball to Chapman for the save.
BTW, Ranger pitchers have combined to strike out ten Mets while issuing only one walk. That's nice work by the staff.

Whew! Rangers win, 2-1. A W is a W - but it would be very nice to see the bats break out of this slump and put up some big numbers.
Dunning on the hill tomorrow in NY. Travel day Thursday. Twins come to Arlington for the weekend. Mariners come to NY to play the Mets; Yankees got to Houston. With the Mariners and the Astros looking at easier games, the Rangers really need to (1) win tomorrow against the Mets and (2) win the series in Arlington against the Twins.

Well, some potential good news in Seattle. A's lead 3-0 in the second inning. Lots of baseball left in that game, but still nice to see the A's stepping up.
If the A's win today in Seattle, then there would be a virtual three-way tie in the AL West with Mariners, Rangers, and Astros. That would set up a very nice closing month of the regular season.

Through three in Seattle. A's still leading 3-0.
I've got to call it a night. I have an important meeting tomorrow morning with a golf ball, and I need to get some sleep.
