Well, one of those nights for the pitching staff. Rangers mount a nice comeback in the bottom of the ninth, but fall one run short, losing 9-8.
Meanwhile the Mariners beat Houston 2-0, so lead stays at 2-1/2 games. Mariners have quietly climbed back into playoff contention. Rays and Astros appear to have locks on the first two playoff slots, but the Mariners are in a virtual tie with Toronto for the third slot. So far this season, Seattle owns the Astros - lead the season series 6 games to two.
It would be very nice if the Rangers can come back and win the next two against the Brewers while Seattle beats up on the Astros.

Sorry, WM. I didn't get to follow the game today - I was at the AT&T store, replacing my cell phone. Apparently the bats decided to take the day off today. But the guys are getting some help from the Mariners again - Seattle up 6-2 over Houston in the 6th inning. It's nice to get the help, but the Rangers should be helping themselves by winning.
Scherzer is on the hill tomorrow - hope that pumps the team up to get a much-needed W.

OKAY! Mariners finish off the Astros, 10-3. Lead stays at 2-1/2 games over Houston, now down to 4 games over Seattle. Seattle now has 1/2-game lead over Toronto for the 3rd wild card. Rangers trail Orioles by 3-1/2 games for top seed.

PHOOEY!!! A wasted weekend. Rangers get swept. BUT - so do Astros. Lead stays at 2-1/2 games. But don't look now - Seattle has crept to 1/2-game behind Astros. Rangers go to play wo in Arizona while Houston hosts Red Sox and Mariner go to Chicago to play White Sox. This AL West race may turn topsy-turvy in a hurry.

Seattle is good and surging at a good time but have a 10% chance to win the West in front of the Rangers or Astros. So relax and don't read too much into my post about their recent success. They dont have Bochy, the talent, pitching, hitting, bench or hunger the Rangers have!
Meantime, the Rangers are on a mission and l'm confident they will at least get a wild card or WIN the American League West!!

Smith has now proven that he's not capable of being the closer. Best alternative is now Chapman. Really need a W tomorrow to stop the bleeding - and an offensive breakout would be in order.
