2023 Texas Rangers

HHD
Thanks. On the ticket they reported the Rangers are out of the title hunt

The Ticket is rapidly running off anyone who knows the sky is blue.
Two games behind the leader and WC is almost in their grasp.

I was mentioning this to my wife. Poor thing, she has to endure my manic-depression over the Ranger's season. I told her about the sign stealing. I can't believe that our pitching staff is so easy to hit. Maldonado for the Astros hit two home runs and he's batting .188! His career average is .207!
Maldy has three outcomes- strikeout, GIDP, HR.

Baker is screwing up a career for Diaz. 20+ HR as a part-time player. Playing full time, he would be in the mix for AL ROY.

Not looking good tonight - 7-1, Astros, bottom of fourth. Astros are hitting everything Scherzer throws. 3 Homers for the Astros (so far). Mariners up 8-3 late. Blue Jays lost 5-2. If Rangers lose they will remain tied with Toronto for the last Wild Card.
Next series for the contenders - Houston host Padres, Rangers host A's, Mariners at Tampa, Toronto hosts Royals. IMO Astros probably have inside track for the AL West, Seattle would get a Wild Card, Rangers/Blue Jays fight it out for last Wild Card slot. Nearest competitor after Toronto/Texas tie is Boston (5 games back, probably done).

Now 8-2, going to top of the sixth. Leclerc on to pitch for Rangers. Off day tomorrow for Texas, Houston, and Toronto. Mariners at Tampa.

WM, don't give up all hope. Rangers still exceeding all reasonable expectations for this season - and playoffs still available. More baseball left to play.

I have not and will not give up. Just down lately......

I'm a long time fan since 1974 - Billy Martin team - one of my fav Ranger teams!!!

2011 was my favorite # 1 team .... 1 strike - 1 strike away from winning the World Series over St. Louis!!!

Uh oh - Houston pads their lead in top of nine - now 12-3. This one may be out of reach (barring a HUGE comeback in bottom of nine).

Viper, thanks for the perspective. You are correct sir, in March I would have been ecstatic if you told me the Rangers would be at .500 in September and would have asked for some of what you were drinking if you told me they would be 13 games over .500. What's tough is how good the team has shown it can be even with its bullpen Achilles heel that is just killing them of late. Getting swept in a critical series at home by the Astros has just sapped all the optimism out of me but with the A's coming up check back Sunday and lets see where they stand and where my optimism stands. Then of course its an even more critical series with the Blue Jays.

I heard on the radio that the Rangers have lost 14 of their last 19? If true, unfortunately it's more than just bad streak. It seems they've lost their mojo unless someone in the clubhouse can do one of those players only motivational things.

Garcia's injury might be a blessing in disguise (my wife disagrees). He strikes out wayyyy too often, leaving runners stuck in mud. Mis-plays balls in the outfield, and what irks me the most is throwing to the wrong base and far too often missing the cut off man. I think whoever replaces him would be a net gain

Still think this team's gonna be better next year, ownership has made big moves the past 2 seasons. Lot of progress made
ABSOLUTELY! Remember, at the beginning of this season, the realistic hope was to get to .500 for the year in order to position the team for 2024. They are one year ahead of the plan. "Being in the playoff hunt in September" was a pipe dream back in March!

Too bad rookie of the year has to play nearly all season unless it's this guy.

Maldy is a free agent after this season, lining Diaz up for ... sophomore of the year?

Yeah but the Astros are hitting the part of their schedule filled with cupcakes. You know, the one the Rangers had in a month ago when they ripped off 8 in a row.

Padres are up on the disastros, 11-2 in the 9th. If they're not playing the StrangerS, the Astros aren't firing on all cylinders

Rangers down in the 9th to the lowly A's.

A much-needed W tonight, 3-2, over the A's. Very nice job by the pitching staff, and just enough offense. Mariners lost, Astros won, Blue Jays won. Rangers 3 games behind Houston for the AL West, 1-1/2 behind Seattle and Toronto for the last Wild Card slot. Really need a W tomorrow afternoon - Gray on the mound. The on to Toronto for four games, and critical to win at least three of them. Astros will host the A's, Mariners will host the Angels - not likely to get much help in those games.

Win last night was a small salve in a 5-16 run. In baseball everything is usually a bigger numbers game but sometimes it really is about a small sample and the next four after today in Toronto will decide if the Rangers playoff hopes will be alive a week from now, beat the A's today then of those 4 in Toronto and Texas must, absolutely must, take 3 of the those 4.

Big inning in bottom of sixth - 4 runs, highlighted by dingers from Semien and Seager. Now 9-4, Rangers, going to top of seventh. Astros up big over Padres, Mariners lose, Toronto won.
