2023 Texas Rangers

Not the most elegant win, but nonetheless a win. Scherzer got it together after the first couple of innings and the bullpen did their job very effectively. Just enough offensive output.
Now we need to see the Yankees rise up and take a couple of games from the Astros while the Rangers play well enough to take at least two of three from the Marlins.

BTW - next week's slate:

-Rangers at A's, Rangers at Giants
-Astros at Baltimore, Angels at Astros

Hope the Astros run into a buzzsaw in Baltimore. Rangers should handle A's; hope to win at least one in San Francisco.

Baltimore is good. They are leading their division, so they will give the stros a serious challange!

Hope O's take 2 of 3!!

OKAY!!! Got some help from the Yankees. They beat the Astros 4-3 in New York in first game of their four-game series. Lead in the AL West now back to 1-1/2 games. Rangers need to take care of business against the Marlins while the Yankees beat up on Houston.

I had hoped for 4-2 over last six and got 3-3. Need to make some hay with Marlins and Oakland because SF lines up a lot like what happened with SD. I gotta admit this is the first August in a while that baseball has stayed number one with a bullet on what I am sports locked in on (at least until this Sunday when my daughter and I have the hottest ticket in DFW to go see Messi and his pals and my focus may be a little affected).

^Hope you and your daughter enjoy the soccer game thoroughly. When the soccer game is over, turn your attention back to the Rangers!
BTW, I have a rant - the Rangers are leading the AL West, in a heated pennant race with the Astros, and just made some blockbuster trades at the deadline; and what do we see as the lead story on the local TV sports? Dallas Cowboys training camp! :brickwall:
There's plenty of time to cover the Cowboys when the season starts. In the meantime, put the Rangers in the lead story.

The sweep of the ChiSox was what a championship team does. Take care of the losers and don't apologize for it. No let downs. Take the wins and keep the pressure on the teams chasing you.

That shocked us. Wife and I got back from the 11 to 1 beat down, to the hotel. Turn on ch4 and the 1rst 5 minutes is Cowboys. No excuse . There's a hot pennant race and they're yucking it up with dak Prescott over he said / she said with Trevon Diggs comments. Arrgh

Jmo, the Sox laid down and quit after it got 5 to zip.. Reminded me of the ou game last year. No guts on the other side

Needed that sweep and got it.

Exactly. Need to go at LEAST 4-2 vs. A's and Marlins.... while hoping the Yanks and Baltimore help put significant L's on the Astros.

Montgomery, our other new starter, is on the hill versus Miami. Check below. He shut them down pretty good three starts ago. Ignore the hiccups against the Cubs!

Montgomery gave up a couple of early runs and settled down to have a good night!

Good guys win 6-2 !!!

No help from the Yanks today. Stros win 7-3.

Very nice W for the Rangers. Pitchers get 10 strikeouts and give up only one walk! Seager homers, Garcia homers twice. Unfortunately Houston keeps pace by beating Yankees tonight, so lead stays at 1-1/2 games.
Houston has Verlander on the hill tomorrow, so Rangers need to keep winning - Yankees unlikely to help tomorrow.

I am with FWHorn. Not used to Rangers being in it this late.
It is GREAT
So don't have much to contribute but read Every post and appreciate Worst HHD and all who keep us fairweather fans informed.
Keep it up please

When Eovaldi gets back...
Nathan Eovaldi
Max Scherzer
Jordan Montgomery
Jon Gray
Dane Dunning (1 ER over 7.2 IP, 11 Ks)
Andrew Heaney (11 Ks over 6 scoreless)
Martin Perez (already to bullpen)

Who else goes to the BP? Not Jon Gray, right? Or does he?

^^^ Not sure who else goes to the pen... good question. Might be Gray?

It will be allsome to get Eovaldi back. What a loaded group of pitchers that list is. Surely that is the best lineup of starting pitchers the Rangers have EVER had.

Yankees helped us today - beat the Astros 3-2...

Not able to watch much of the game today but the good guys are trailing 0-5 in the 4th inning. Gray is pitching today and is struggling.... need some help from Ranger bats.

Well, the Rangers got some unexpected help from the Yankees today. Even with Verlander on the bump, the Yankees manages a 3-1 victory.
Unfortunately the Rangers aren't taking advantage of it - yet. Down 5-0 in the 4th. This would be a great time for the bats to wake up and score a big bunch of runs.

It wasn't the prettiest W ever, but it is a W. Rangers spot the Marlins a 5-0 lead, then outscore them 9-3 in the late innings. And with the Astros losing in NY, the lead is now up to 2-1/2 games.
Rangers put Heaney on the mound tomorrow - hope he can throw another gem. Hard to tell what will happen with the Astros tomorrow - momentum is with the Yankees. Hope the Yanks can pull it off again.
Next series for each team - Rangers in Oakland, Astros in Baltimore. Rangers should be able to handle the A's, and if the O's will whip up on Houston, the lead could grow nicely.

Good teams pull out games like that once in awhile, bad teams find ways to lose those. Nice to be on the good side of things for a change. Hanging in there@

Rangers getting it done at home and it’s now a five game win streak. 13-7 over last 20 is a nice bounce back after they stumbled into the all star break. I like the aggressive moves at the trade deadline and it’s incredible to know that just .500 ball the rest of the way and this is a 90 win team and this team is more than capable of better than that.

Phooey! Astros up on NY 5-1 going to top of the fourth. Guess t was asking too much to hope for three wins for the Yankees. I originally hoped for a split of the four games in NY, and it looks like that will happen.
Up to the Rangers to take care of the Marlins this afternoon in order to maintain the 2-1/2 game lead in the West.

Yeah, looks like Astros will beat NY today. Leading 9-6 in the 8th....

Good Guys cruising 5-0 B8.... Marlins down to 3 outs. However I wont jinx the mojo here by celebrating early!

Rangers win 6-0 and complete the sweep of the Marlins. Yanks come back, but fall short and lose to Houston 9-7. Lead in the AL West stays at 2-1/2 games.
Houston goes to Baltimore, while Rangers go to Oakland. Here's a chance to widen the lead a bit if Rangers take care of the A's and the O's lay a whoppin on the Astros.

Rangers will win 2 out of 3 easily, and Astros will win 1 out of 3 barely.
