2023 Texas Rangers

O fer San Diego through the first two but help is on the way in the form of Scherzer. Is he worth 5-6 more wins over next two months, I sure hope so.

Rangers get Max Scherzer from the Mets. He opts into 2024 with the Rangers; Mets pick up most of his salary. Mets get Acuna in the trade - hate to see him go, but you've got to give value to get value, and he was blocked at SS for the Rangers.
BIG upgrade to the starting staff - and Max has a long-standing relationship with Mike Maddux.
Now, Chris Young - don't rest on this one, go out and get a top bullpen arm before Tuesday!

Which SPs might move to the BP, since we only gave up 1 prospect. Or do we move a SP down?

Hope we don't injure ourselves out of the postseason after this move.

I think he is going to post some W's for the Rangers. 5-6 wins to get ready for the playoffs would be very nice. And having him on the bump in the playoffs is a definite plus.
IMO, the AL West race will go down to the wire between the Rangers and the Astros. The rotation looks better - now we need to see one more trade to add a top-quality arm to the bullpen.

Well, I guess CY heard us - the Rangers made a trade with the Cardinals and picked up two pitchers. Rangers trade for Cardinals' Jordan Montgomery, Chris Stratton - ESPN. Jordan Montgomery is apparently the Cards' best starter, and Chris Stratton has eaten a lot of innings in relief. Both are pending free agents; it will give the Rangers a shot in the arm for the pennant run and a chance to see if they want to sign either (or both) of them long-term. It cost a couple of high-potential minor leaguers, but necessary to stock up for the stretch run for this season.
Trade deadline is Tuesday - still time for CY to make another move if there's a good deal to be made.
Haven't seen any news of moves by the Astros yet.

Oh, BTW, the Rangers limp out of San Diego on the wrong end of a sweep, losing 5-3 today. Off day on Monday, then three with the White Sox in Arlington, followed by three with the Marlins.
Meanwhile, the Astros don't have a cakewalk next week - three in Houston against the Indians, then four in New York against the Yankees. It would be nice to see the Astros take some losses while the Rangers get some wins.

:puke: good guys get swept by a mediocre NL team... Yu Darvish pitched game 2 for Padres.

Let's put it behind us, rejoice in terrific new starter and bullpen help arriving.... and go sweep the lowly W. Sox!!!

Hope some other teams give us some help vs. Astros.....
Worsterman, I'm with you. I'm not sure the Indians can help a lot in Houston, but maybe they can beat the Astros one game out of three. Hopefully the Yankees can take three of four (at least two of the four) in New York.
Meanwhile the Rangers should be able to handle the White Sox in Arlington. Marlins may be tougher - they currently hold the 3rd Wild Card in the NL, although they are 4-6 in their last ten games. Hope Rangers can take two of three from them.

we are not ourselves right now. we have 3 all stars out. not even counting degrom. we have to hunker down and manufacture some wins here in august.

^^^ Agree.

Fortunately the Rangers are off today, but Tues. - Thurs. evening games this week in DFW would be just ghastly HOT for the players and the fans. I suspect there would be many calls for EMS at the park...

The fans could stay away
But the players would have had to play in it.
The Ballpark was not even that outdated
but what a good move for voters in Arlington

Many have been begging for years for a Ranger ballpark with a roof. I'm a long time friend of Jack Hill (from Ft. Worth) who was the key guy in the late 80's - early 90's when he designed the Ballpark in Arlington. I love that facility in so many ways but it could not accommodate a roof when considered later.

So, Jack and the Rangers designed and built the fabulous Globe Life field with a roof and AC!!

I strongly suspect the roof & AC has helped the Rangers get new talent, especially pitching due to past concerns about the summer heat.

Hill also designed SF Giants field, AA Arena & Jerry World some number of years ago. Connected with him a few years ago, same guy I knew in HS / college. A truly nice guy.

I used to fly for business in the 90's and early - mid 2000's. Met a guy at DFW who claimed to know Rangers players from that era who - he claimed - would take a strike out rather than stay at the plate - just to get out of the heat. Previous Ballpark.

While I cannot confirm or deny his story, I know I would rather play in an air-conditioned park.

The AC could have an impact on players wanting to come here.

^Looks like the Rangers and the Astros will be in a tight battle all the way to the end of the regular season. That far exceeds any reasonable expectations we had before the season started.

The Astros have won the World Series every year in which they've traded for JV.

Didn't know that but not surprised. They have Altuve and what's his name back. Now Verlander. They are a tough line-up. They eat 3 - 5 starters and average bullpen pitchers. As said earlier, we are out three of our best players and Heim may be done for the year. I don't trust a tight-forearm, as is the problem with Eovaldi. I think that's what they said about de Grom and you see what happened there.

We're doomed. Ha...

Hopefully I'm very wrong.

15 minutes remaining before the trade deadline - haven't seen anything further from Rangers or Astros.

The Rangers picked up the Pirates catcher. He's rated as the best defensive catcher in the game but his OPS is less than .600. So, not much at home plate.

Doesn't look good for Heim.

I read that he will have surgery on his wrist. It's a matter of whether he can postpone the surgery and gut it out after he gets off the IL, or if not, he's done for the year. It's a huge blow. What I don't get is how Garver is being downplayed. Everyone was excited when we acquired him.

The JV one is sort of a joke as it's only happened today and once before - 2017.

Too many Rangers starters injured and out for a while...

Meanwhile, huge bullpen get a few weeks ago.... CHAPMAN strikes out batter #3 to retire the side! 41 strikeouts since joining the Rangers!!!

Important opening series win and vicktree to turn around recent losing streak!

Give Heaney credit for 6 solid innings!!!

I'm so excited about Max S joining the staff, bringing not only Ace type game capability, but A game leadership in the clubhouse, etc. for this team at a critical time!
