2023/2024 Portal News

Coach Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton started following Lexi Donarski on Instagram.

That's the first non-small guard any of our staff have shown any interest via social media.
I'm not holding my breath on Donarski but it does make me smile thinking about how butthurt Cyclones fans would be if she transferred to Texas. :D

Well, she can play D and can shoot the 3.
I mean, that is true. She's always struck me as a player who is not good off the bounce, cannot create her own shot, and has to be completely wide open to get off her 3-point shot. If it was a game of horse, she'd probably win.

Coach Wiz does not coach guards, but she IS our recruiting coordinator. Hmmmm?
:e-thinking::e-thinking:

Man everyone, these "follows" are really getting confusing. I'm still stuck on Vic following JJQ's Dad out of the blue, when he literally follows almost no one. That's usually money in the bank (ask Hadi). But then we have some players that all our coaches are following, some that only one or some of the coaches are following, some follows being reciprocated by certain players, and some follows not being reciprocated. And then we have some players that are following other teams' coaches or players as well. Its like we need a spreadsheet to keep up with this stuff. It sort of reminds of these lyrics from the great J. Geils:
"You love her
But she loves him
And he loves somebody else
You just can't win"

JJ Quinerly or Lexi Donarski in burnt orange would be awesome.

Both would be a dream come true.

Elena Lovato recently started following Boston college Tania Mair who recently entered the portal. She’s a 5’9 freshman pg who averaged 11.1 ppg and averaged 6.6 assists on the season and a total of 65 steals. Harmon had 72 on the year to put that into perspective.
Blair Schaefer started following Taina Mair on Instagram.

Jada Walker was on a visit at Baylor yesterday, according to IG. I am hoping she made her way on down to Austin. Her and Rori in the backcourt would be vicious on defense. Jada fills a need that we have. A combo guard who can shoot the three, attack the basket and finish with contact and a pesky defender. I was hoping we could land her and Quinerly. That would be elite.

She's a perfect fit for what Vic wants to do. IMO, I don't think the staff is in on her. Baylor would be tough with her and Sarah Andrews in the backcourt. Hopefully the staff is doing work behind the scenes because they need an athletic guard in the worse way.

Can't say I know anything about her, but those are good stats:

Unfortunately Baylor still has more of a winner's reputation than we do. It will take another couple of years of finishing better than them to change that. The way we totally laid an egg against them in Austin on national TV didn't help our case any IMO. Again, this is a critical time for our program and we really need to add the right players from the portal. Not just any players... the right players. Baylor is going to be tough next year.

I don't know that for sure. The transfers they've gotten are from Belmont and Ohio. I hadn't read much on other message boards that these were coveted transfers; maybe I missed it.

I'm curious to know if there is a connection (assistant coach?) there. Seems unusual that they are coming from pretty far away to play at Baylor; I don't think either is projected to be a starter at Baylor next season.

Rori Harmon started following Arizona freshman transfer guard, Kailyn Gilbert on Instagram, and vice versa.

Also, assistant coaches Erin Grant and Ashley Davis (formerly at Okie State) are no longer listed on the UofA official website.

So out of who is in the portal right now who is y’all’s top 3 players y’all would want to see in a Texas uniform this coming season?

Not related to current portal entrants, but this player really took advantage of the loosening of the rules:

That's a lot of movement... not to mention she was first committed to UCLA in high school before reopening her recruting and eventually signing with Baylor.

Man, Barnes must be really hard to get along with. Hope that great freshman class is taking note of all of this. Jada Williams will likely be quite the draw on the NIL/transfer portal market this time next season.

Unless Texas comes up with some quality players from the portal, I would have Baylor as the favorite to win the conference right now on paper.
Absolutely on paper they currently look like the favorite. I know Vic likes to hold his cards close to his chest, so hopefully we have some things going on that are being kept as quiet as possible.

There have been some loose rumors that dad might be shopping. She’s the type of player you don’t like if you’re against but love if you have her.
Too soon. I know she's a great player, but after sitting through the Louisville game it's pretty safe to say that I (personally) would never be a fan of HVL.

As was posted earlier (and apparently deleted), Blair Schaefer did start following Louisville's Hailey Van Lith on Instagram. HVL started following Rori Harmon and a couple of players from Virginia Tech. Unusual . . . unless it's not.
