I think Vic needs to have a talk with Del Conte about adding another staffer to deal with NIL issues. The queen of darkness shows a whopping 9 support staff members (non-coaches) on lSu's wbb site. In addition to a non-coaching position of "Director of WBB recruiting" they also have a "Director of Women’s Basketball Player Personnel and Influence" - an old bAiler/mUlkey groupie whose job description is "a focus on help[ing] players make informed decisions on NIL opportunities presented to them that could enhance their personal brand." So we know coaches can't get involved in NIL deals to recruit, but they've got someone on staff who you know damned sure is coordinating all of it.The statement by the Oregon assistant coach regarding teams reaching out to their players with NIL promises before they ever entered the portal... we know that's players reaching out and recruiting one another. You can't stop players on different teams from being friends, and you can't control the private conversations that they have.
It's unfortunate that it's come to this, but it kind of just is what it is. I don't think any of us are so naive to think it wasn't happening even before NIL. The stakes are just higher now. The only thing you can do is fight fire with fire and get with the program. It seems to be all about the highest bidder.
Does "hearing" mean what you're reading on message boards and social media, or some better source?I’m hearing it may be USC
I have a friend who I grew up with and is a D1 coach and this is what I was told. She said it’s not set and stone but USC may be the team to beat as of now.Does "hearing" mean what you're reading on message boards and social media, or some better source?
Beyond started! It'll be interesting to see if some of the shine starts fading on Barnes. She had the magical run with Aari McDonald but hasn't made much noise since - 2 2nd round exits and finished 4th in the PAC12 the past 2 seasons.
Could be:
She better lose weight and learn to play defense if she's going to play for KM.Based on her tea
Based on the social media posts of her former VaTech teammates, seems likely Owusu is headed to LSU.
Not surprised to see her transferring, though a bit surprised to see that landing. Guess she will have to petition to be able to play immediately, correct?Based on the social media posts of her former VaTech teammates, seems likely Owusu is headed to LSU.
Toxic trait. Regardless of the circumstances, you don't handle things this way. Apparently her father is involved and defending the behavior. I can't see why any halfway decent program would take her.Well she left the bench before their game with LSU was complete in the Final Four.
I may have been misinterpreting the point of her teammates but they basically responded,”Check the LSU bench,” when VaTech fans asked “Where’s Ashley?”Not surprised to see her transferring, though a bit surprised to see that landing. I took that as a reference to her good friend and former teammate Angel Reese, whom apparently was talking with her on the bench during the game.I may have been misinterpreting the point of her teammates but they basically responded,”Check the LSU bench,” when VaTech fans asked “Where’s Ashley?”
She's a few games short of setting all-time records in more than one category at Wake Forest. For that reason I think we don't see her in the portal. She'd be my first choice also.I just want Jewel Spear to enter the portal. Out of everyone she would be at the top of my list.
No doubt about it. And all the more reason I hope we have this part covered, not only to attract new talent but to also keep what we have. Not that there's a timetable necessarily, but kind of late for Morrow to barely be entering the transfer portal considering DePaul's season ended on March 4. Wondering if the pressure/allure of all these other players getting NIL money (not sure DePaul can compete) finally got to her and her family.
Not sure who is providing the highest NIL deals, but I have a feeling that's a huge incentive for her.

Big name into the portal. If we weren’t so stacked at her position I would call Vic personally to go grab her but I could see her at Iowa or Louisville.
Interesting read - thanks for posting. It looks like that report is only based upon shared information on that particular platform and among those groups of sponsors. It doesn't include all of the "private" deals or deals from companies that do not participate in that group. Nor does it give real dollar values of deals - only the number of deals signed with the "sponsors" that the report tracks. In fact, that same report shows that Lauren Burke actually had more deals than Reese. Also, Reese's quote in the article is pretty silly: "When I came here on my visit [i.e. lSu], they had their own NIL program, and that was just something that have never seen before, where they can help me brand myself, help me with taxes, things you really don’t learn in school.” Uh, Angel, FYI - Texas had that same program set up within a few weeks of when NIL went into effect and I would assume other schools did the same. So apparently the new self-anointed role model for all girls that "look like her" doesn't know much about other programs or didn't take many visits.Well clearly LSU has NIL backing and this was before the Final Four
Angel Reese leads men's and women's college basketball in NIL deals
Not exactly "portal news" but relevant to the conversation, being that NIL possibilities seem to be drawing more players into the portal.
Every major university had NIL programs like these within weeks if not days. Knowing she probably wouldn't be called out on the validity of her statement, what she said sounds better than, "I transferred from one of the top 10 flagship universities (Maryland) to one in the bottom 3rd (LSU) to play for a coach who, at best, is unsupportive of the LGBTQ players she built her successful career on the backs of."Interesting read - thanks for posting. When I set up my contribution to the Texas OneFund, I specifically designated it for WBB.Obviously, UT has a good NIL program, but I wonder how much is made available to women's bball for recruiting, and keeping players here. I'm hoping the coaches realize that NIL is becoming as important as the reputation of the coach and program in
recruiting. There are teams like Miami, and Virginia Tech that have decided that they want a more elite women's bball program, and have made resources available to do that. UT has done that with their football, mens bball teams. I hope those resources are also made available to the UT women's programs. It looks like players like Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark are staying another year because of NIL available to them.
Are either of them age eligible for the WNBA draft? Both have only played 3 seasons in college. It looks like players like Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark are staying another year because of NIL available to them.
