2023/2024 Portal News

Van Lith is graduating from Louisville with a finance degree. Needs a graduate degree from McCombs School of business?
Or....an MBA from Stanford. I wonder. She's played only 3 years. If she were pursuing an MBA at some school....she technically could play for 2 years as an MBA student, right?

It just dawned on me that Baylor was a major player during HVL's recruiting process out of high school. In fact, most were surprised when she chose Louisville over them. I'd be very surprised if KM hasn't done everything in her power to pull her away from Walz and claim victory after all. There's definitely a relationship between KM and the HVL camp.

Does Stanford lower their GMAT requirement for athletes? Even with the requirement lowered significantly I'd think the pool of athletes that could qualify would be very small.

she now becomes top priority in my opinion! You may not like her attitude but no denying that she is one hell of a player.
Edit: disregard I was told she has a do not contact:(

Wow, who would have thought the WBB portal would be the wildest of all the college sports? Walz was bragging at his PC prior to coming to Austin how great the portal was and how all over it he and his staff were. Now they lose the plum of their program to the portal. I wonder if he saw it coming? And does Jayda Curry now reconsider?

I don't believe Stanford makes any exceptions for their athletes when it comes to entry requirements. My knowledge is based on volleyball where Kevin Hambly said Stanford cannot hit the transfer portal like the other schools because they still have to get in to Stanford.

HVL is a grad transfer and I'm sure she has NIL representation. If she just signs with her original second choice mUlKey without letting her representative conduct a private bidding-war, then she's not playing this smart at all. Its my understanding that you can put your name on the no-contact list and then contact whomever you wish or have your agent do it.

It kind of makes sense when you think about it. If NIL is the driving factor, then young women are trying to capitalize as much as possible. They don't have the same lucrative pro-level opportunities as their male counterparts. I'm wondering what, if anything, can or will be done in the WNBA to make those opportunities more financially rewarding. I know they will never make pay equal to the NBA, but the WNBA salaries are pretty pitiful in the beginning stages of a player's career.

How embarrassing must this be for the WNBA that college kids are making more than 1st round picks

Sucks for the WNBA (of which I’m a big fan) but probably good for women’s college basketball keeping some of the better players around longer. Sure some of the younger players may get less playing time but perhaps they can learn something from those experienced players.

To me, it didn’t seem like a whole lot of players leaving for the W early anyway. Hopefully NIL will end up having a positive impact on WNBA salaries

I think folks are misreading things. A college player cannot declare for the WNBA draft unless they meet a certain age requirement.

The WNBA "requires players to be at least 22, to have completed their college eligibility, to have graduated from a four-year college or to be four years removed from high school". Since the WNBA draft is currently held in April, before most U.S. colleges and universities have ended their academic years, the league considers anyone scheduled to graduate in the 3 months after the draft to be a "graduate" for draft purposes.

This year, the only fourth-year players I'm aware of who have bypassed declaring for the WNBA are Rickea Jackson and Celeste Taylor. Players like Caitlin Clark and Hailey Van Lith are not eligible to declare for the WNBA draft this year.

Last year, Ashley Joens and Ayoka Lee were players who opted for a fifth season in college instead of declaring for the WNBA draft.

I’m not sure if someone posted this @Moooooo It might’ve been you because I have been posting info you already posted lately:D so if you did sorry lol but Pao Pao is following Blair Schaefer now and it looks to be recent.

Hopefully NIL will end up having a positive impact on WNBA salaries
I'm hoping so, too. But if history is an indicator they'll probably just wait it out. Next year's senior class is the only one left (after the current senior class) with the extra COVID year of eligibility.

I am not sure what or who we are going to be able to land from the transfer portal with the lack of NIL in WBK at Texas.

Am so happy that you joined Hornfans last Thursday and have such concern for Texas women's basketball.

I have been interested in Texas wbk since April 2020-- Vic's arrival. I followed him from Mississippi State to Texas, so of course I am going to be concerned with the lack of support.

Ehh I don’t think Texas has the best NIL for women’s basketball by far but there are opportunities here. Harmon has some big name NIL deals with a shoe store here in atx, she has beats headphones, wme sports, and the Texas one fund so opportunities are available if you market yourself right.

You must really have some good sources to know about the details about NIL in WBB at Texas Care to share who they are or are you just making this up?

Well, welcome! Were you made a fan of WBB due to Vic's success at MSU?

Donarski at #3 is more than surprising. She can't create her own shot and she's over rated on defense. I guess I'd take her since we need guards, but I think Gonzalez is better. She's far from the 2nd coming of Joens.

I think she ends up at Wiscy or Minny though.
Seems like Indiana based on Donarski's Instagram followings.
