2022 Transfer Season

So with the three seniors moving on (and no one else, so far), how many spots are available for the upcoming season - that is, how many transfers COULD there be coming in?

Very shocked at the Audrey news. Anyone see her going to UTSA and linking up with Karen? Or close to home to UNT to play for Jalie and Jamie

I wish the Seniors well. I was expecting them to graduate and start their life's after college. I didn't think any of them would stay. Normally after 4 years of college you're READY to get your degree and start your life.

Changing of the guards. It's all good. Soon we will be saying we don't start over we just reload! If AMo had not gotten hurt she would have been guns ablazen this year along with Rori. If nothing else, Rori has proven you either have it or you don't. Everybody is not a project. The key is finding who truly has the it factor.

Coach does a lot with a little. FACTS!

With the transfers of our 5th years, I was wondering what the loss of experienced players would be. It's amazing that a 1st year coach takes a new team (to him) and makes it to the Elite 8. And more amazing to lose key players the next year and repeat the trip. That's coaching. I decided to look solely at the 4 games the 2021 and the 2022 squad played in that lead to the Elite Eight. Then, I summed up the minutes each player played in those 4 games and divided it by 160 minutes (4 games times 40 minutes) and figured out the percentage of time they contributed. Surprisingly, Audrey and Joanne played fewer minutes this year than last year - but not by much. And then with the loss of Collier, Ebo stepped up minutes-wise. Was the loss of Lambert and Taylor that big? I think it was balanced out with the sensational Harmon and contributions from Mitharu/A.Moore.

Some of us are just having different conversations. Audrey has been a great Longhorn for 4 years. She and Joanne were rock solid in helping the program transition from one Coach to another. Yes, it makes me sad that she will play her last year for another team. Doesn’t have anything to do with my excitement about our roster for next year or my belief in Vic Schaefer’s coaching ability.

I’m getting angry lol. We lose 3 players and the entire coaching staff and are now missing out on transfer targets. I really wanted Williams and thought we had a good chance. I need more addition than subtraction at this point and I know I’m being dramatic and it will all work itself out but, it wouldn’t be in my nature not to prematurely panic & think the sky is falling:whiteflag:

Right there with you. I trust Vic but he has been slammed lately, poor guy might need oxygen. Never seen a loss of staff like this for positive reasons. But whatever happens we have Rori, Moore and the other young ones which make for a great long-term nucleus to build around. Plus, Vic's defense hasn't left which is bad news for any other team in the B12. Go watch the Lattimore dunk video, certainly gives me a happy. I'll bet we hear of at least staff hires today or tomorrow.

Just to make sure I understand, we have lots of 3's and 4's, either returning or incoming. So we don't really need wings, right? What we need is a backup for Rori and a big in the paint. What am I missing?

This is shocking to me. Did anyone see this coming? She came here with a surgically repaired knee that had been neglected, and would have seriously impacted her career. She got the support and rehab that she needed and is now able to dunk with no brace. Sure would like to know what prompted the portal move.

I’m shocked. Maybe she wants closer to home? I was REALLY looking forward to watching her game expand at Texas. This one hurts

Wow. She was just showing her appreciation for her rehab. WTF. Maybe the loss of the position coaches? Closer to home as suggested? This one hurts, I was a big Latasha fan. After a great year and doing things right we seem to be rewarded with many people leaving.

That's unfortunate. Lattimore was the one I was most concerned about just because she is so far away from home.

Obviously, she did not get a lot of meaningful playing minutes this season. There were games where she never entered the game; and, that concerned me as these elite recruits want to play early and often.

I think Aaliyah Moore is our starting PF next season; and, perhaps Vic wants Latasha to play more of the Center position, but she wants to play more as a wing. I don't think she's currently better than Moore; so, perhaps that could have played a role in her decision.

Not good. She probably has the most up-side of any of the post players on the roster. This also makes the team even more in need of height. I also think Coach Phillips leaving played a big role.

I posted here that I thought it might happen and no one agreed. Body language tells a lot.

I do think Latasha was very close to Coach Phillips and that her departure could have been a factor in her decision to enter the portal. However, I am holding out hope that Vic got another big (Stephanie Soares) and that was Latasha’s main reason for hitting the portal.

Otherwise, I’m at a loss. Lattimore was on deck for a lot of minutes next season and would have been a featured player on the team. Vic gushed over her potential. She was not on my list as a transfer candidate.

She was on deck to potentially get a lot of minutes if she was playing more of the center position, in which she's a natural PF. Coach Phillips leaving played a role, but I also think the fact that her and Aaliyah play the same position and both are freshmen PF's played a role.

There's no class separation with them. I feel that Lattimore leaving hurts quality depth more than anything seeing that Aaliyah would most likely start at the PF position if she sticks around.

I do think Latasha has a lot of potential. But, she garnered limited minutes even when Aaliyah Moore was out injured those 7 weeks. If Moore had been healthy the entire season, Latasha's playing time might have been even more limited.

IMO, we have 3 starting spots locked up: PG Harmon, SG Matharu, and PF Moore. Latasha most likely doesn't want to play Center; she might see herself as a SF/W, but I think she's more of a stretch-PF. If she wants to be a starter sooner rather than later, that might not have been in the cards for her at Texas.

That's kind of what I think. Man, I hate this...

It's what happens when you sign 2 players in a recruiting class that play the same position. Kind of like when in football 2 QB's are signed; after a season or two, one transfers out. It's even more common when both signees are ranked so highly (like Moore and Lattimore).

That's why being able (and willing) to play more than one position is a valued quality in a player. Gives them more opportunity at playing time.
