2022 Transfer Season

I realize we all get excited when we become aware of players who enter the transfer portal and have the potential of helping our program next season. Personally, I try to temper my enthusiasm unless said transfer has some kind of connection to our coaches, program, state, school, etc.

Here are the players I am keeping an eye on the most:

- Priscilla Williams: grew up in the Houston area and played some of her high school years there before moving to Missouri; recruited by Vic at MSU

- Stephanie Soares: mother played at Texas; lived in Pflugerville part of her life (although home-schooled, I believe)

- Taylor Jones: grew up in the metroplex; visited Texas unofficially many times; recruited by Vic while at MSU

- Kennedy Brown: took an unofficial visit to Texas while in high school

- Myah Taylor: played for Vic at MSU

Now, that's not to say that some transfers without a single connection to Texas won't have interest. Just look at Latasaha Lattimore; I still don't know what connection she had that led her to ending up at Texas; was it Coach April?

AC, just remember that anything you post on social media will follow you all of the days of your life. If you want to enter the portal again or interview for an entry level sports related job on down the line don’t be surprised if it comes back to bite you. Values such as lack of loyalty, vindictiveness, persecutory complex, over inflated ego, etc. are not typically listed as desirable on job descriptions.

I could be totally wrong, but I take this to mean we have a new "big" on deck.
Perhaps.

Could also mean that she is grad-transferring for academic reasons.

Best of luck to Lauren. She will be difficult to replace, especially defensively.

You know Bill Fennelly and Jeff Mittie are thrilled . . .

Uhhhhhhh....I was going to ask her the next time I saw her working a softball game if she was coming back in the Fall. I guess not.
I assume you meant to quote the Lauren post.

If there are incoming transfers that are going to cause a scholarship # crunch and Audrey returns, I have to say I’d prefer to get Lauren back. No slight meant to Audrey. The roster has more than a couple players that can play that 3/4 position but is woefully thin with effective, experienced centers, even if there is an incoming transfer center.

I wasn't expecting her to be with the team to begin with, seeing that she participated in Senior day. They had better find a suitable replacement or they're going to be in trouble at the center position.

Well, I have been preparing myself for her not returning for that reason. But, when neither she nor Audrey declared for the WNBA draft and renounced their final season of eligibility, that meant they still might play another season.

Ashley Joens went through senior ceremonies at ISU; but, she then announced that she'd return to play at ISU one more season.

True. But I also didn't see the fact that they didn't declare for the draft as anything. Seeing that out of the three Joanne would probably be the only one with an outside chance of getting a decent look with a team. And maybe they just were going to focus on life after basketball.

That obviously wasn't the case with Lauren. And although not a sure WNBA player, she was a really good and valuable player for Texas. They now have to try to replace her without a post coach that we know of.

I share your concerns for sure because the five is a huge need for us. Regarding the coaching staff, I have a suspicion that there may be qualified replacements named relatively quickly once the job posting is officially closed. I hope that suspicion holds true.

Boy, I sure hope so. Lauren was an essential part of our run this year, and like Mooooo said, Fennelly and Mittie are probably doing cartwheels right now. But Vic has always seemed to find success, even when he has had to replace virtually all of his starters.

Hate to see her go but, this could be a result of the staff changes or Texas has someone lined up to replace her or she is just ready to move on. Either way it goes I was happy to see her improvement this season and wish her the best at her next school.

Thank you, Lauren, for your hard work the outstanding performance for the past two years. Hate to see you go but wishing you the best of luck in the future.

We just need to bring in a staff as quickly as possible. At least bring in one coach right now so we can recruit via transfer portal. Really want Stephanie Soares before anything due to our lack of height at the 5 position.

Not in a million years would I have guessed that if Lauren continued college ball it would be somewhere else.

I really don’t think she is leaving due to any unhappiness or issues, I would say she wants to be closer to D.C and family her final year or it is academically driven. Then again, what does UT not offer?

I'm stumped.

We better get a center.

Lauren has 'liked' the announcement of hiring of new coaches at both Delaware and Temple, the only engagement of any other wbb team posts.

She wants to go home.

Staff changes? Unlikely
replacement lined up? Unlikely
Ready to move on (back home)? Seems quite likely

Thanks, Lauren, you were a pleasure to watch! Best wishes to you as you move forward.

Another thing... could be entering the portal to weigh options. Entering the portal does not necessarily mean one MUST leave. You never know what all factors may be going on behind the scenes.

This makes the most sense. So she would need to have her bachelor's degree to play right away with a grad transfer. Otherwise she plays at Texas or sits.

As long as she's not going to Texas Tech....
