2022 Transfer Season

Out of everything Ashley wrote, this is most concerning to me. What is she saying about her teammates? That they're turning to drugs/alcohol/eating disorders? She said she wanted to tell "her truth" but including her (former) teammates casts doubt on their behavior, which is unfair to every teammate she had at Texas.

I'm all for these athletes raising awareness of mental health issues. But you need to grow up and realize the difference between advocating for mental health on social media and airing dirty laundry. If you aren't mature enough to recognize the difference between the two, then perhaps just stay off social media.

Interesting - I think a lot of people thought she’d go WNBA. This would seem to be the role Reese would occupy. If Reese does end up at SC, Cardoso might get 5-8 minutes per game.

Given this announcement, I'd be very surprised if Reese actually goes to SC.

In my opinion, AC and her mom know the difference between the two and was using her "PSA" to point the finger at the Texas program (or is "shoot the finger" more accurate?). She is both an advocate and an assailant.

I'm confident that the Texas Tech staff had the chance to preview AC's Tweet prior to her sending it. I doubt it took Gerlich & Co by surprise and they knew and approved of the intended consequences and the ripple effects of the Tweet.

I'm ready to go to the SEC and start new rivalries.

And I'm ready for the ***-kickings Tech has coming to them until we do actually depart for the SEC.

Maryland's roster had no one listed as a Center; Reese listed as a forward/guard. But, hey, that's how we had Joyner Holmes listed! :D

2021-22 Women's Basketball Roster - University of Maryland Athletics (umterps.com)
Angel held down the 5 spot for Maryland pretty much by default. I've kept a close watch on Maryland all season long, and there seemed to have been some issues trying to find minutes for both Reese and Diamond Miller along with Mimi Collins and Chloe Bibby. Both Reese and Miller are naturally hybrid 3/4 players. I remember when Shakira Austin transferred out of Maryland, it was because she felt Brenda Frese had limited her to playing inside, but wanted to develop her game outside the paint. Perhaps this is the same situation for Reese. That said... our need is at the 5. Reese could possibly play the 3 because she was listed as a wing coming out of high school.

Reese is not a natural 5, she’s a 6’2 F, I would imagine Cardozo would still get at least 15MPG relieving Boston and Boston moving to the 4 when they are both in the game.

I was envisioning Reese backing up/splitting with Saxton and spelling Boston from time to time, especially if they’re going small.

Another thing to note, the deadline to enter the portal this year to be granted immediate eligibility is May 1st instead of last years deadline which was July 1st. So we will see announcements come sooner than we did last season. I also assume Vic will try to assemble his staff much faster than we saw last season to get recruiting going as well as recruiting in the portal to build that relationship with players.

That's the deadline to ENTER the transfer portal. But, yes, that's the timeline to ensure immediate eligibility for players who have never transferred.

You’re right my wording was a bit misleading. If any more big names are going to enter it’s going to be very soon and we need a staff to build those relationships with those players before it’s too late.

I’m a bit jaded so this might not be a jab but the timing of it and focus on facilities/NIL/gear raised an eyebrow slightly. I haven’t unfollowed her yet or I wouldn’t have seen it - nothing personal but I only follow current coaches, former/current players and commits.

I see what you mean @DFW_Horn
Could be her way of saying a complimentary goodbye on her part, but then again why not be more direct if it were meant to be a positive statement? Surely she's more professional than to make a derogatory statement publicly (if that's what it was meant to be).
Hmmmmm...

Edit: After re-reading, I take it as a positive statement with her saying yeah the facilities and all that are cool but THE PEOPLE at Texas made her brief time there special.

OR - since she is heading to a smaller program with lesser facilities, NIL, etc., she is making a sales pitch for her new environment.

I say she is not slamming Texas, but telling recruits to go where the people you feel best about are. That's going to be her best sales pitch against the NIL kings. The flaw in her argument comes when a recruit realizes they feel really good about, say, Vic and staff, or Tara and her staff...AND they get the high profile perks too.

Read APHIL's recent tweets. It is the exact same message.

Here's the bottom line... being an assistant at Texas is obviously a resume-builder!:coolnana:

Aston
Mitchell
Mayes
Thompson
Hughey
Harris
Jackson-Durrett
Phillips
Etc...

It may not guarantee success as a HC, but it's definitely a stepping-stone to that position.
