2022 Transfer Season

Interesting info @Moooooo.

Here's an article that provides additional background on Stephanie Soares. She is indeed the daughter of Susan Anderson.

Mustang Connection Features Stephanie Soares' Remarkable Comeback - SCVNews.com

Her stats are impressive. Taken from the article;

"The work made a dominant player even more formidable. Soares scored 29 points in her fourth collegiate game. She blocked 173 shots in her first season, just 20 shy of the program’s all-time career record. And she became only the second freshman in 30 years to be named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in women’s basketball.

Her sophomore season was one of the best in school history. She averaged 20.7 points, a TMU single-season record, and led the country in blocks and rebounds. The Mustangs won a program-record 29 games and earned their first-ever NAIA No. 1 ranking. Soares became the first woman in TMU history to be named an NAIA Player of the Year."

Unfortunately, she tore her MCL and ACL during a pick-up game and endured a 12 month rehab following the surgery to repair the ACL. She returned to action for the 2021-22 season and averaged over 21 ppg by February.

Soares is from Brazil (her parents have been missionaries in Brazil for 20 years). She played basketball for team Brazil in 2019. Here are a few highlights.

Need. She could come in and be a starter from day 1. And she fits what Vic is looking for in a post player.

It’s crazy because I believe I mentioned her as a possible Texas candidate last season or two years ago but nothing came out of it. Hopefully I manifested her to Texas. She is exactly what Texas needs.

So, looking for others' opinions on that poll conducted on Stephanie. Does it make sense that those 4 schools listed are viable candidates, or that site just pulled schools from thin air?

I was thinking maybe that person had some inside info.

Hoopfeed article on the transfer Portal with the Final 4 Head Coaches:

  • South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley also commented extensively on the portal during her Final Four media time. She also indicated that a player from her team entered the portal but declined to reveal their identity.
  • Geno: “I’ve never had a really good player leave my program, in 37 years, that left and made it big at a top 10 or top 20 school. That’s just isn’t going to happen. If you can’t play for me, if you can’t play for us at UConn, you can’t play anywhere at this level.”

Another Guard we should give a look is Diamond Battles out of UCF She is tough and plays defense. Was the AAC DPOY. Idk if she following her coach to Georgia. She could help most definitely.

She did visit us unofficially one summer. Think she picked Oregon State over Oklahoma. Seems like Iowa State makes sense . . .

Good player. She would make Iowa St. or a team like Oklahoma very formidable seeing that they lack quality size in the post.

Unless she's a grad transfer, she for sure would have to sit out one season at her next school. Even then, she might need a waiver for immediate eligibility.

Coach April started following Kennedy Brown on Instagram, and vice verse. So are coaches from Baylor (Cummings) and Iowa State.

Folks on RebKell boards say Brown is athletic, a good rebounder and defender but has never developed a scoring touch around the rim. Plus, she seemed to have chronic injuries. A good coach could probably help with her scoring problems. Don’t know about the injuries.

Oregon losing two . . .

Now it’s 4.
“Maddie Scherr, Sydney Parrish, and Kylee Watson are also departing the program as they have all entered the transfer portal. On Friday, Taylor Bigby joined the list.”

Bigby was their only recruit in last year’s class. 6’ 1” guard from Las Vegas was #28 overall.

Saw that Coach Calamity started following Sydney Parrish out on Instagram.

Ashley Chevalier had some interesting stuff on her instagram today answering questions people had asked her. Without comment:

Her top four schools “options” were Stanford, Kansas, Georgia Tech and Tx Tech

Asked if she was still friends with her former teammates she said “some” and mentioned Kyndall

Why she left? “Mental and career”

What were her biggest priorities? “Happy and healthy”

Asked if she hates Texas? She said no and was glad she got to experience the university and all it has to offer and that Austin is a great place

Why Tech? “Great vibes and great people”

Stanford huh?

We are all thinking the same thing on that one

I wish athletes would be honest, "I wanted to get starters minutes and Texas Tech offered the best chance for me to fulfill that so I can be happy."

Well, from what I have read on other message boards, Stanford fans have indicated that undergrads transferring to Stanford is very rare, even for non-athletes.
