2022 Transfer Season

I’d hate to lose anyone to the portal but it’s probably an unrealistic wish on my part. Meanwhile I cringe every time I see a new post for this thread.

Vic was singing the praises of #11 of Fairfield prior to the game if I remember correctly. I bet they take a look at least.

The portal is an amazing animal. I’ll bet we could add 10-15 players that would help some…..and that are pretty good players. I may be premature but after two elite eights, and still have my raw emotions from last game, the only player(s) I want Schaefer to get are true difference makers. Ones that will allow us to beat the top 4-5 programs. It’s fun to watch these transfers. I just need the wise man on the mountain on this board to tell me when we have THAT player. I haven’t seen that one just yet.

THAT player prob won’t come from the portal, but who knows. We missed on Rickea. We have several on our roster now who could become stars.....Rori (already on track), Moore, Lattimore, etc. They are just young. If we improve at the 3 and 5 spots, I like our chances next year. I also think it to be very important to improve our 3 point threats to spread the floor more. I hope Hunter stays because she has enormous potential...

And, those are the ones where competition is the fiercest.

A lot of times, coaches/players having a prior relationship with prospective transfers is half the battle. Huge bonus if transfer wants to attend a school closer to home and your school fits the criteria.

And, most of these transfers are looking for the ability to compete for (and win) a starting spot. That's why I've thought all season long that it would be difficult to bring in a transfer PG (which I think is a priority) unless they can accept being the backup to Rori Harmon.

Of course I don't KNOW anything... but if I were guessing I'd say there's only one (Hunter) who might leave. Even with that, I hope she sticks around because she has SO MUCH potential to be developed into a special player in Vic's system. I guess we'll know soon enough If there's any attrition from our program.
I agree with you. I think Kyndall would be making a bad decision after getting a year of experience in Vic's system under her belt. I think with Joanne leaving, Kyndall could easily morph into that position if she puts in the work.

Yep. Which is why I'm really hoping that Kyndall sticks around. Having versatile combo guard type players like her, who not only can play off the ball but also give you good minutes at the PG position if need be, is even more important now. With Joanne moving on the minutes are there for her. And with Rori being a stud freshman, I don't see them being able to recruit a quality PG from high school or the portal until after 2023/2024.

Coach April started following Aijah Blackwell out of Mizzou on Instagram.

Looks like Coach Calamity started following JUCO Last-Tear Poa on IG. But, Poa signed with LSU last November. So, perhaps it's not a recent follow, although it was at the top of those accounts Calamity is following.

PG Myah Taylor out of Miss. State is in the portal. She was recruited and signed by Vic. One season of eligibility remaining.

“To all the coaches I have had, especially coach Schaefer, coach (Nikki McCray-Penson), coach (Doug Novak) and coach Purcell, thank you. It’s because of all of you that I have made it to this point in my career. You have each helped me in different ways and for that, I am grateful,” Taylor said.

Perfect point guard to backup Harmon. Already knows Vics system and what’s expected. Is the Perfect fit honestly.

Perfect . . . if she's not intent on going to a school where she is going to be the starter.

Reminds of me of Kyra Lambert in that she already has a Bachelor's and Master's degree.

Intriguing one here. Good shooter. Don't know if her defense is Vic ready.
Is this a case of entitlement? When Gregory returned from her undisclosed illness in January, she may have expected to automatically reclaim her starting role.

I hope the best for her, but definitely question marks here, as with the bulk of portal entrants.

Not that familiar with many Minnesota players but can definitely hit the 3 (111/259, 41.3% last season) and her FT (75/82, 91.5%).

Former Longhorn, Susan Anderson's daughter, right?

Interesting info @Moooooo.

Here's an article that provides additional background on Stephanie Soares. She is indeed the daughter of Susan Anderson.

Mustang Connection Features Stephanie Soares' Remarkable Comeback - SCVNews.com

Her stats are impressive. Taken from the article;

"The work made a dominant player even more formidable. Soares scored 29 points in her fourth collegiate game. She blocked 173 shots in her first season, just 20 shy of the program’s all-time career record. And she became only the second freshman in 30 years to be named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in women’s basketball.

Her sophomore season was one of the best in school history. She averaged 20.7 points, a TMU single-season record, and led the country in blocks and rebounds. The Mustangs won a program-record 29 games and earned their first-ever NAIA No. 1 ranking. Soares became the first woman in TMU history to be named an NAIA Player of the Year."

Unfortunately, she tore her MCL and ACL during a pick-up game and endured a 12 month rehab following the surgery to repair the ACL. She returned to action for the 2021-22 season and averaged over 21 ppg by February.

Soares is from Brazil (her parents have been missionaries in Brazil for 20 years). She played basketball for team Brazil in 2019. Here are a few highlights.
