2022 Recruiting - Football

Whelp, we got two OL this weekend …
on to others … This guy would be a great commit

Love this kid. The family enjoyed their stay in Austin and the academics at UT.
However sad to say the pressure to stay in bama may be too great.

Wish we could say when others recruit in Texas,

"the pressure to stay in Texas may be too great"

It's a choice of, "Do you want to build it? or Do you want to maintain it?"

Texas is in the "building it" categorie. Bama is in the "maintaining it" level.

This is the instant gratification era. It has to come down to coaching, coaching, coaching. Hopefully build a winner. Only then will we become a destination school that no 5* would ignore.

Personally, I’m not worried. Sure, I’d love to see 5 5-stars in every class, but if you track 5 stars versus later performance, the ratings are certainly not a sure bet.

A great coach and staff can take lower top 10 classes to the Promised Land. Sark has enough talent already to make a run in 2021. Not saying that he will, but I am saying that he might.

We have the talent, highlighted by perhaps the best RB in the country.

Success breeds success. It’s coming. And in the big picture, the misses today will be quickly forgotten.

Inadvertent dislike on your post. Been removed.

Mine wasn't inadvertent. I rarely disagree with Dukesteer but we need to start loading the stable with studs. I agree that not all 5 stars are sure bets which is why you need to load up.
That’s fair. It’s just that I have seen too many 5 stars disappoint, and plenty of 3 stars excel. Recent examples are Poona, Conner Williams and D’Onta Foreman. I believe the rating system to be grossly overrated.

If this staff is a good as many of us think they are, our 22 class will be just fine.

Banks and Williams have committed to Nike (Oregon)

Welcome to the era of NIL
It will be interesting to see how NIL plays out. Not sure if Nike can hire players to promote their brand but they will definitely be able to help in the marketing of the player's brand.

I think in two or three years players will be able to show recruits the potential a player has to earn.

I know as fans we can help by following whatever social media platform they use since they are compensated based on views and likes, etc. We do have a huge nation wide fan base...dare I say worldwide fan base that can help facilitate the player's earnings.

The whole horns down thing never has and never will bother me. I graduated junior high both academically and emotionally.
Yeah...I wasn't saying I like it and, to be clear, wouldn't personally do crap like that....I think it is lame and dumb plus stupid and goofy.
I should have been more clear in my post....
My real focus was, I would be motivated and energized against a school that told me no. Now, we don't know if that is true or not, but, under the circumstances, if it is....it doesn't look too smart at the moment.
I trust Sark and the team knows a lot more than I do and, again...may not even be true. But, yeah horns down is wack....just like ou.

good question.

They seem to have a corporate sponsor. I guess Nike can give them all they want without any issues

I'm the one who should have been more clear. Wasn't my intention to be critical of you. There's just so many who get their nose out of joint in a major way and I find it idiotic.

No offense taken...figured that's what you were getting at....
And I like that about you.
:hookem:

And what category is Oregon in??
Interesting week here with the Ducks...

That reason doesn't make sense to me. Nike isn't going to just sponsor Oregon players. I great player at Texas is on average more valuable than a great player at Oregon. Going to Oregon for NIL with Nike sounds like a good recruiting pitch but is smoke and mirrors.

Sarkisian and Flood' inability to recruit linemen so far is a huge red flag for me. Maybe he is a better coach than Herman and does better for a year or two, but if he can't bring in the best players he won't make it past year 5-6.

Yep, Herman was such a great recruiter that he lost the Brockermeyer twins, which resulted in him losing a star QB and how many more. That *** show by Herman, et al cost us how many recruits, and continues to do so.

My jury is out on Sark and company as far as recruiting, but even I realize the uphill battle they were left by the previous cretins. Unfortunately, we will be seeing and hearing the fallout of that debacle for several more years.

Sabrehorn, I agree with you on this. Sark and his staff are definitely fighting from the bottom of the hill - and it may take a while to climb to the top. We'll need to see if the coaches can develop the talent they have and deliver results on the field - that would go a long way in winning future recruiting battles.

He was a great recruiter his first 2 years in. He was good at selling the program. But then performance on the field killed him. Sark so far hasn't really seen the same recruiting bump that Strong and Herman saw when they first started. That means he has to be 3 times the coach to last the first couple of years here.

We got a great D coach, and it will show in a few months. We’ll get what we need and then some on defense fairly quickly. It would help our offense this year if our receivers show up.

A promise of Nike gear for life plus a "commitment" that if the player reaches a certain plateau Nike will name a sub-brand for the player (see Jordan) fills an 18-year-old mind with grandeur.

The problem with linemen is the emphasis on 7-on-7. Linemen just are not developing as early as the skill players. Find one that fits the mold you want and start developing (which is where Texas has been spinning its wheels since 2009).

Fair or not Sark has a maximum of two losses (and not to the pig people, ou, or TCU) in 2021 to keep all of the naysayers at bay.
