2021 Recruiting - Football

Just saw Quay Davis committed to Kansas? Don't understand that...

We've all known women who wanted to marry every guy she slept with. He is like that. But I agree with the idea that he is a human highlight reel catching the football.

Per OrangeBloods, we need to keep an eye on McNeese State grad transfer DB Darion Dunn.

Apparently he signed financial paperwork with Texas, but was not locked into a scholarship before Herman was fired.

He is being recruited by Oklahoma at the moment and recently followed a handful of their coaches

Per IT, Sark and RB LJ Johnson of Cy-Fair have spoken within the past 24 hours.

He has graduated high school and will be enrolling at either A&M or Texas within a month.

Texas retaining Drayton at RBs coach has helped them remain in the race

LJ Johnson, Cy-Fair, Running Back

Apparently Sark had to make a call to hold JD Coffey
Drayton and Chang also on the call

ps - Dont know if that means anything for the future of Chang or not (but Drayton is staying)

LJ can still enroll early if he wants, which is something that was supposed to happen
Then sign the NLI later
Just like it used to happen before there was an early signing period

GHam thinks we are in good shape as of this moment

Roach on holding Coffey

I spoke to a source near Texas signee JD Coffey today. The four-star safety is concerned about his future with uncertainty in the air following the dismissal of Tom Herman. Coffey is set to enroll next week, but he doesn't know who his coach will be. That part is what is bothering him the most right now as his closest relationships are with Chris Ash and Jay Valai. Coffey has been trying to get some answers, but things are still in limbo with nobody officially hired on Steve Sarkisian's staff. If things aren't resolved soon or a change is made that he doesn't like, Coffey could explore other options. One name that would help is Keith Heyward. The Oregon safeties coach has been rumored to be a candidate for a potential slot at Texas, and Coffey knew him well from his time being recruited by the Ducks. In fact, Oregon finished second in his recruitment and at one time led for the Kennedale heavy hitter.

Nick Harris echoing Hamilton on LJJ

Spoke to sources today close to Cy-Fair four-star running back LJ Johnson who helped paint the picture of where his recruitment might stand after the coaching change over the weekend.

One source reiterated that Texas held the advantage in his recruitment before the change, but that Stan Drayton being retained should help keep the Longhorns in front after. Signees in the class haven't had luck getting in contact with Johnson since the change, but considering his quiet nature, that wouldn't surprise me until he has a full understanding of everything himself.

Would be a nice first step for Sark if he can pull it off

IT spoke with a source close to Texas commitment Keithron Lee. The Bryan Rudder receiver remains committed to Texas, and wants to be at Texas.

Was told Lee "Thinks things will be okay" in terms of Texas honoring his commitment. Lee's just waiting a week or two to see who will be on the staff and make sure nothing has changed on the new staff's end.

The source said Lee picked the University of Texas for the school, more so than a coach

from Wells

I’m told new coach Steve Sarkisian has reached out to Austin High QB and Texas signee Charles Wright, per a source. Wright, who had been on a hunting trip last weekend, is said to be very excited about what Sarkisian is bringing to Austin, and is also slated to enroll in a few weeks.

More on LJ Johnson, from TFB --

LJ tells me, “I’m still deciding. I still won’t have a decision probably until February”.
He did fill out his school application at Texas and sources on the (ou) side tell me he did the application for (ou). I would assume he did the same for (aggy). That’s no small thing – those applications are long, so typically if a kid goes through that it means they are either very serious about going to that school or are committed.
We do believe (ou) has decided to not take a high school back. So, for now, I believe they are out.

I have been thinking the retention of Drayton would be a key on this one - now we will see

Something on the GT - Dunn
" ....Listed at 6-foot-1, 192 pounds, Dunn originally hails from Oakdale, Louisiana and chose the Cowboys in the 2016 class.
Last season, Dunn recorded 42 tackles and 11 pass break ups. He also had five interceptions and earned first-team All-Southland honors. After redshirting in 2016, Dunn saw action in six games making two starts and recorded eight tackles. In 2019, Dunn really took off with 33 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack. A speedster with legitimate track and field abilities, Dunn won the conference title in the 60-meter indoor hurdles. He’s flashed personal records of 7.89 in the 60-meter hurdles and a 7.56 in the 55-meter hurdles.
Dunn also competes in the long jump with a personal best of 24-feet, three inches. Dunn will be added to a roster with young talent at the cornerback position, and he should add some valued experience and athleticism to Jay Valai’s group. Dunn was already starting to earn acclaim in NFL Draft circles, and a move to the bigger stage should elevate the spotlight on him and increase his chances of being drafted higher. ..."

It sounded like we were going to lose transfer cb Darion Dunn from McNeese St
But he and Sark have now talked and supposedly our engagement is back on

FWIW, Sark is a good recruiter. His 2015 USC class was really stacked -- four 5-stars and 12 players ranked in the top 100.

He even did well at Wash, including Shaq Thompson who I think is the highest rated player that program has ever signed. He also landed several guys that made the NFL from there -- Kevin King, Sefarian-Jenkins, Budda Baker, Desmond Trufant, Danny Shelton, Marcus Peters, Bishop Stanley, Dante Petrie, John Ross.

sounds good but what does rap game larry think? :lmao:

Not sure where to put this. OU WR Charleston Rambo has hit the portal. He was a big miss for Charley ( we got in too late) . Curious if we kick the tires here.

I really like this player. If Sark can secure his signature, that would be huge.

...And Ishmael of course pending trial I suppose.

Hamilton says Ibraheem still wants to be at Texas.
He has not talked with Coach Sarkisian as of this morning.
This recruitment/signing could ultimately come down to UT administration

Joe: Any talk about us getting any decommitments from other schools after the Sark hire?

The one consensus seems to be that Sark wont try and steal any of Saban's guys, even the ones from Texas. I have seen rumors that Bryce Young would want to come with him from Bama to Texas. But he was a 2020 (#1 overall)

Considering Saban took Milroe from Texas to begin with I would say he's fair game. Milroe was a hard core commit until things fell apart here.
