2020 Recruiting - Football

Here is what Inside Texas said on their podcast last week -- the link for it above a page or two back

“We don't have a ton to base this off of, but we still feel like UT will land a five-star running back. It just seems they've made good enough inroads that something will break the staff's way like it typically does. They're in okay standing with Bijan Robinson and expect to get a visit regardless of whether or not he commits to Ohio State next week. They've done well with Robinson's family so they wouldn't necessarily have to "flip" them. If they get him back on campus at any time, and use the running backs in the manner they told him they would, this could get real interesting. Jase McClellan is another one where scheme and running back usage matters. We don't expect Ehlinger to be used as much on the ground as last year. It shouldn't be needed. That will help a lot. Again, we feel like the parent is already okay with Texas. Things with Zach Evans are as good as they've been in a while. We'd still predict Alabama or an out-of-state SEC program, but with him you just never quite know. We check on him more than we care to admit just in case we need to start that slow, loud ascent.

" ..... I'm a big follow the visits guy and Robinson took two trips to Austin, one in the spring and his official in June where the Longhorns continued to make a huge impression. “Of course the city of Austin is amazing,” Robinson recently told 247Sports. He also sees opportunity on the depth chart to be instant impact.

“They have this coach (Kevin Washington), he’s like a preacher coach, he teaches you about a lot of different things about God, about how to use yourself in the world with other people. That was pretty awesome. How the players are around each other, it was cool to see how they gel with each other. That’s huge for me to see what kind of players are at that program.” Robinson was joined by his grandfather Cleo Robinson on his official.

“He really liked when he met with Matthew McConaughey,” Cleo started laughing. “They had about a 15 to 20 minute conversation. Bijan at the time didn’t know who he was and started walking away and heard the crowd started yelling ‘alright, alright alright.’ Austin was very impressive. We liked it a lot. Coach (Tom) Herman was very, very impressive. Herman and my wife got into this thing about the quote of the day. My wife is very religious, we all are, and they were exchanging about that. The facility was very nice and they’re going to add to it. The whole attitude towards Texas football around the community and against the coaches and Herman himself picked us up at the airport. That was one of those things that was very impressive to us. The way they treated Bijan while he was there.”

Between Herman, the relationship with Stan Drayton, the success Tim Beck has had in Arizona and collectively what the Longhorns staff has done, I like them over USC as things stand now. Robinson's favorite player growing up was Reggie Bush, his aunt he's close to lives in Los Angeles and he believes the Trojans will soon turn things around but I'm going to ride with Texas heading into the decision that's five days away.

247Sports Crystal Ball Forecast: Five-star to Texas

Texas is headed the right direction. Georgia has been in the CFP in recent years. Texas will have the same recruiting results if the 10 win seasons and NY6/CFP games keep coming....

I'm very happy with the linemen Texas has committed, happy enough that I honestly don't think we need another commitment this cycle, even it it was Lindberg. He is a very good player, but not game changer like Walker Little was. Honestly, Tommy Brockermeyer, Savion Byrd and Donovan Jackson are all better. He would have had to move to guard or get recruited over (Given that we can successfully get two of the three or all 3), I'm not feeling the loss.

The thing I find most amusing is that he is smart enough to go to Stanford but he picks Georgia, I'm actually wondering if he was good enough for them? They have some pretty good commits.

From the aggy DC's lips to Steve Wiltfong's ears -- 247's "the Fong" pulled his CB of DE Alfred Collins to aggy. Collins now has 4 CBs total, 3 to Texas and 1 Foggy Fong :idk:

Also, regarding the relative size of Alfred Collins

Chip Brown says we lose to TCU this year. I don't see that happening. I just think our o-line will dominate. We have backups. Sam is experienced. I believe we will win the close ones

Right. This year, I think we can wear the Frogs down in the trenches as the game goes on.

Still, a Patterson team is always dangerous—like a Bill Snyder team. He’ll get the absolute most out of his guys, and it will be a fight. Eliminate, or at least minimize, turnovers and stupid mistakes (easier said than done) and we beat them.

The rub on Mack was he could sweep all the teams on the schedule we should clearly beat, but often had a tough time in big games. With Herman it’s the opposite. Herman’s teams will often over-perform versus top competition, but drop some (very ugly) games against teams we should outmatch. It’s eerily similar to Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys teams that played up or down to the level of competition. Usually it’s a close and exciting game to watch. Personally, I’d rather blow out some of the weaker teams, mainly to get our backup QBs some real game experience.

5-star RB Kendall Milton also to Georgia, beating out Bama, LSU, tOSU ....
JF, and others that follow recruiting outside the 40 acres.
I’ve become a Georgia fan in recruiting. I never really liked Kirby, never was really sold, but after the way he handled himself in the post game presser, I became a fan.
Whenever there’s a battle between the teams mentioned above, I’m pro UGA.
