2020 Recruiting - Football

2020 LB Derrick Lewis (6'0.5,200 to 215 depended on where its listed) from Schertz Clemens
Not ranked high but a good player, reads plays well, seems to have a burst to get into the backfield and clearly the QB of their defense (can see him moving his players around alot depending on the formation)

Looks like Derrick Lewis was hurt most of last season, which would explain the ranking - bc the film is pretty good

And, in any event, the name checks out

2020
WR, JJ Hester, Tulsa, OK
WR, Quentin Johnston, Temple
2021
WR, JoJo Earle, Aledo
WR, Latrell Neville, Fort Bend Hightower

Of this group of WRs who were in, I find Quentin Johnston the most exciting
He is listed at 6'4, but some people say he is already 6'6. I have to admit some knock his hands, but he looks good here

Now that dude can really find the football and get there in a hurry!

I’m not worried about his weight. Jessie Armstead was around 195 in high school dripping wet, after drinking a Big Gulp (and before taking a dump).

If t
I think we have Coburn, Ojomo and then 3 seniors at that position
If Giles and Herman think Titi is really good, then offer.

Sweat could probably play any of the 3 DL positions. I wouldn’t say we’re hurting at NT, but another good one would certainly help the depth chart starting next year. Coburn may not stick around all the way through his Sr year...

If Titi doesn’t pan out, that’s 2-3 years of scholarship used up instead of 4-5 years.

Yeah, I dont know if he's a take or not. He does show some rush moves in the film, which is nice and something our DTs need. But mainly I love his name. Think of the GameDay signs - oh man.

Announcer: “Titi’s really perky tonight. Titi’s bouncing all over the field—not just on the sidelines.”

Re: JUCOs.

I think the Herman regime, thus far, has struck a pretty fair balance between the two extremes of: (1) Mack Brown = no JUCOs, and (2) Bill Snyder = build the program on JUCOs. Charlie didn't exactly leave the program well-stocked in a number of areas, so bringing in some JUCOs has been necessary to fill gaps in talent. Overall, Herman is still building the program 'organically' with HS recruits.

My memory is that, so far, Herman & Co have taken --
3 JUCOs in 2017 (Johnson, Rowland, Chisholm)
1 JUCO in 2018 (Grandy)
4 JUCOs in 2019 (Jones, Johnson, Mitchell,Tyler)
So I guess the question now is was that just a temporary thing, or is it a pattern? It looks like a pattern to me but we will see

Yeah. Things happen like injuries, failure to develop, off the field problems, and transfers (now worse with the portal in play), that can result in a very thin roster at certain positions. If we have an immediate need at a position and a quality juco player is available, I say take him.

Some updates --

2020 OL Chad Lindberg has informed our coaches he will be attending a different school. Good luck to him

TFB says 2020 WR LV Bunkley-Shelton's father told them the visit was great and he has his family's blessing if he wants to commit. He also said Herman, Beck and Mehringer were awesome.

WR Johnny Wilson is getting some CBs to Oregon

An tOSU mod who had put in a CB of RB Bijan Robinson to tOSU changed his pick to cloudy. They were saying he may want to stay closer to home (Pac 12 school).
“I just changed my Crystal Ball pick on Bijan Robinson to "foggy." I don't know yet where he is going, but at this point I don't think it is Ohio State. Not sure if it could change back before his Aug. 2 announcement, but what I am told is that it's not Ohio State right now.“ -Bill from the Ohio state board.

Natl recruiting guru Steve Wiltfong of 247 says --
"A Texas source has been hinting something big coming soon and that the class ranking would be shooting up. Not sure if he was/is referring to Bijan as I type this out."
FWIW, he has Bijan to Texas for now. The last I saw, he is supposed to announce Aug 2

You might recall over the past couple of days, BC tweeted out "scheming" and "everything doesn't need to be signaled."

Look at the activity dates ... not the %.

Bijan Robinson's Crystal Ball Predictions

TFB seems in on it as well
Word is the mom likes us better than tOSU :cow:
I have already had to walk back some of my Oscar Giles-grumbling lately, and I would be very happy if I was forced to do the same thing for Stan Drayton
(if you are already wondering what I will move onto next, do not worry, I am ready to go with LB-recruiting-grumblings)
