Someone on another site put together a list of the results to date of the Herman v. Jimbo recruiting battles for players both offered (a couple were offered and recruited while Fisher was at FSU before he went full aggy around Nov/Dec 2017)

2018- 17-5 Texas
Texas- Sterns, Foster, Green, Overshown, Eagles, Cook, Moore, Woodard, Jaimson, Coburn, Ossai, Epps, Ojomo, Ingram, Adeoye, Vaughns, Williams
aggy- O'Neal, Preston, Brown, Wright, Jackson

2019- 10-8 Texas
Texas- Whittington, T. Johnson, Gbenda, Ro. Johnson, Shepherd, Sweat, Smith, McCoy, Floyd, Watson
aggy- Leal, Green, Cupp, Wright, Williams, Richardson, Mowry, Young

2020- 5-4 Texas so far

aggy- none with Texas offer

Does not quite match the aggy spin, does it?

More from Eric Nahlin on the latest commit 2020 OL Andrej Karic --

Often you'll see an unheralded take celebrated because there's a lot of trust in the staff, but I've long been a fan.

I had him as my #30 player in state in February. So, needless to say I'm a big believer in his long-term trajectory.

Now, to figure out how this came together.

Yesterday I was asked if they were pushing for Lindberg and/or Karic. At the time I thought they were still waiting out Lindberg but I circled back to the board last night to say I'd check further. Something felt imminent and I felt Karic could be a take but I wanted to check further today. Karic saved me a few calls.

Texas gets an upside offensive tackle not dissimilar to Sam Cosmi. Cosmi, I think, had more upside coming in and was already bigger, but there are some similarities: finishing blocks, project well to both pass and run blocking, potential at left tackle, etc.

I've felt Texas only wants four offensive linemen in the class barring someone being too good to turn down. What that means for Lindberg we'll have to wait and see. He's clearly unsettled on a decision and Texas didn't want to miss out on Karic.

For now, UT's class features two tackles and two interior linemen. It will probably shake out with Garth as a left tackle, Parr as a guard, Majors as a center, and Karic as a right tackle.

Southlake head coach Riley Dodge says Andrej Karic is currently 6'5, 269 .... with "great upside"

Ian Boyd of IT thinks he will be ~280 by the time he steps on campus, and should be a 4-star by then

The other OT commit in this class, 4-star Jaylen Garth is currently ~ 6-4, 280

Another 2020 to keep and eye on is APB Ty Jordan (5'9,183) from West Mesquite. The deciding factor here may be that his mom is ill and he wants to be as close as he can to her, which rules out schools like USC and Tenn. Sounds like he's ready to get this behind him so he can worry about other stuff.

This one is sophomore film I think but it pretty good

This Cal player is supposed to be in Austin this weekend. He is in for an UOV on his own dime, so that sounds pretty good. And I believe the family is coming with him. The way things are going for us at the moment, who knows?

For anyone wondering about how class size and the addition of Karic might have on Chad Lindberg, Herman spoke publicly today in Austin at a function and indicated we still have a spot on the OL. So, this should be Lindberg. Karic looks like an OT for sure, while alot of people think Lindberg will move to the interior.

I see each OL class by Hand an improvement over the previous (including 2021 over 2020). In recent past we had good WR and RB, but no QB or OL. Well that has changed, and WR and RB is looking good too!

I agree that our QB, OL, & WR groups are looking great at this point...Defense rounding out pretty well.......I have to disagree about the RB situation unless we can turn a 5 star RB or two. ....no special stars committed thus far.

Fantastic news on Karic. I think of him like the Hookfin or Cosmi of his class—currently a bit on the lean side, but with the most upside / highest ceiling of any OL in the class. McKnight can work with guys like this to bulk them up and add quality weight. His film looks great. He has the natural quickness and instincts that can’t be taught, and great footwork that’s hard to develop.

Some of these reports are saying Cosmi was once a three star recruit (I don’t remember) and the same size as Karic. If Cosmi stays here all 4 years (a big ‘if’), he could end up as one of UT’s all time greats on the OL.

All these guys (including me ) who keep saying don’t worry about his relatively light weight, aren’t just homers who are looking at things with rose colored glasses. They’re absolutely right with Karic. His film shows he’s also a rather mean-tempered guy on the field.

Now my only question is: do you pronounce his first name like “Andre”, without the ‘J’ on the end?

I knew a Balkans/Albanian guy with a silent “J” at the end of his name, and I think that’s pretty common.

Some quotes from ex-UT starting OT Donald Hawkins on Andrej Karic (from IT and twitter). Hawkins has been training some young OLs in the DFW area --

Trains here with me in Dallas and it’s been fun to watch his growth over the last couple months. His quickness and athleticism is unreal. I look forward for him making his case to be #1 OT in the state of Texas.

“He has the traits and tools to be successful outside of Texas and beyond college. I’m really high on him. He has athleticism, strength, and foot quickness you can’t teach. He can recover quickly.”

"He’s about 265. He’s going to put on the freshman 15. I was 255 leaving for college and added weight with no problem. He goes up against former NFL guys here and holds his own. I think he can be an early contributor.”

Things they work on: “I’m trying to make the good things great. Working on being in better position to use his strength, working on his hands.”

If Linberg commits this year and Foster, brockemeyer, commits for next year we are going to be so deep in hosses so I wondering if Karic(or maybe someone else) would consider playing D-line, after all the guy will be strong and quick....just thinking ahead. I wonder if Orlando needs my advice.

2020 OL Courtland Ford (6'6, 330) will be in Austin this weekend.
It seems like he clearly wants an offer from us. Wants the chance to play with Ja'Quinden Jackson
We already have 4 2020 OL commits.
Ford is quite a story. Seems to be in great shape after two surgeries. McKnight could probably do a lot with him.
Wonder what Lindberg is thinking right now?

I’d rather take 5-6 OL and skimp out on the #s at WR this recruiting cycle, if need be. I’d think Lindberg will have a space even up to signing day. I’d take Ford too, but nobody’s asking me. :smile1:
