2020 Recruiting - Football

Hopefully CL jumps on the wagon while there is room and not take the chance on Herman taking 6 OL's.......but how long will TH wait on CL?

If Linberg commits this year and Foster, brockemeyer, commits for next year we are going to be so deep in hosses so I wondering if Karic(or maybe someone else) would consider playing D-line, after all the guy will be strong and quick....just thinking ahead. I wonder if Orlando needs my advice.
“I wonder if Orlando needs my advice.”

The answer to that is still on a game-by-game basis. :smile1:

There will be attrition and graduation! Is anyone really counting on Tope Imade? Denzel Okafor, JP Uriquodez as depth? Great kids but they’ve been here a while and dont see the field. Our depth is dangerously thin! Bring in 6 this year and 6 next plus those that maybe able to transition to a blocking tight end aka Neil Tweedie!

2020 JUCO DT Almosse Titi (6'3,310) at Iowa Western CC, originally from Tampa

Now here’s an interesting new prospect. I’m not sure about the level of competition in his film, and it mostly looks like practice, but he was certainly a man among boys. What he brings to the table is a really big and powerful dude who can move and run remarkably quick for his size. Big athletes with that combination of size and quickness/speed don’t grow on trees.

His photos reveal he’s carrying a fair amount of the wrong kind of weight. Enter Yancy McKnight.

I get the whole spin down philosophy, but it would be nice to get a ‘true’ NT recruit for our 3 man front.

18 is the prime number of offensive linemen for an 85 scholarship limit. Any less and you have depth chart issues, any more and you become thin at other positions. Right now we have about 15 or 16 scholarship linemen.

It will be interesting to see how our numbers workout. I actually prefer to take a constant 4 linemen per class, I know that works out to about 20, but generally attrition and guys leaving early for the draft will fix that.

With that said, when you have the opportunity to take a class like 2021, you go for it. And if I had my pick right now, I'd take Ford over Lindberg. Nothing against Linberg, but I want to get that Dallas pipline flowing as much as possible.

You take the best guys period whether they are in some pipeline or whether they are from Dumas, Bushland, Abernathy, Canyon or wherever! Scout, scout, scout

Re: JUCOs.

I think the Herman regime, thus far, has struck a pretty fair balance between the two extremes of: (1) Mack Brown = no JUCOs, and (2) Bill Snyder = build the program on JUCOs. Charlie didn't exactly leave the program well-stocked in a number of areas, so bringing in some JUCOs has been necessary to fill gaps in talent. Overall, Herman is still building the program 'organically' with HS recruits.

I see Gary Johnson as a true blooded burnt orange Longhorn. I'd take 4 of him every year

My bet is that he'll be an old white guy posting on here one day. :hookem:

We shouldn't get in a 3 man front enough to recruit for it. It has killed us for two years now....We need to run fronts like we did in the first 3 qtrs vs Georgia.

2020 LB Derrick Lewis (6'0.5,200 to 215 depended on where its listed) from Schertz Clemens
Not ranked high but a good player, reads plays well, seems to have a burst to get into the backfield and clearly the QB of their defense (can see him moving his players around alot depending on the formation)

Notes from Inside Texas on some of them --
Brandon Campbell is in Pearland now but used to be in Katy and knows all those Katy guys. They say he compares to Fozzy Whit. He likes Texas and we probably lead. He is likely a 2nd RB type.
Theodore Knox is in The Woodlands and will be in town with his brother Martrell Harris. They are originally from Baton Rougue
Latrell Neville compares to Elijah Higgins. He likes Texas and is buds with Milroe
Juan Davis might commit soon. Compares to a larger LJH. Our staff loves him (esp Warehime). We were on him early.
Derrick Harris Jr. We love him but he likes aggy too. He recently said he thinks we will have #1 class in 2021.
Ishmael Ibraheem Might be the #1 CB in the state in his class. We were on him early.
JD Coffey III Seems to be leaning our way. Naviar loves him & whole staff wants him in this class. But he is going to hear from all schools.
Billy Bowman Explosive player. Probably a nickel but could play slot. Seems to be some mutual attraction
Bear Alexander transferred from Terrell to Dallas Skyline with LB Jaqwondis Burns. He is committed to Ole Miss but perhaps he will come along with Bear this weekend? Burns is higher rated than LB Derrick Lewis of Schertz Clemens.

2020 OL Courtland Ford (6'6, 330) will be in Austin this weekend. It seems like he clearly wants an offer from us. Wants the chance to play with Ja'Quinden Jackson. We already have 4 2020 OL commits. ... McKnight could probably do a lot with him. Wonder what Lindberg is thinking right now?

So we may now know the answer to this question. At least, according to OB, Lindberg has moved up his announcement all the way to August.
But OB thinks it will Georgia.

And as well as we are doing, of late, check out what Clemson/Dabo is up to --

the first time I ever saw Dabo was in an interview about couple years ago maybe three or four and I said man that guy has a giant personality clemson is going to be a good...
But on the other hand I hate dabo/Saban

I think the top 5 I want out of that lost of names are: Dewberry, Collins, Bear, Ibraheem, and Neville. Wait maybe we need a LB.
