2020 Recruiting - Football

There is only one way to fix this, Texas has to win the conference and make the playoffs. Do that and the door swings shut for the outside invaders.

And the parade of highly ranked North Texas players to ou continues. Today the land thieves got 4-star RB Seth McGowan from Mesquite, TX. Just in time to join 5-star RB Jase McClellan from Aledo, TX
Hope Herman has a plan to at least slow this s**t down.

He looks good all over the field. He's obviously a good coverage man and a ballhawk in the secondary. On offense, his acceleration, skills at running/cutting in traffic, reading the blocks, and RB instincts at picking the right place to go were impressive. Hope he picks the good guys.

As for the track clip, while he won the sprint convincingly, he was at his best (compared to the other runners) for the first 20-30 yards--the distance that matters for football.

I totally agree, gotta crack the metroplex if possible.
But,

If we do as you say, win the conference, and make the playoffs.

Do we really need to recruit that area?

Would we really need changes?

crack the metroplex
Absolutely must do this. There is a lot of top-quality talent here in the Metroplex. IMO, THE University of Texas should always get first choice. And the other Texas schools should get to pick from the other top talents not headed for Austin. There is no excuse for letting a top player go to Zero U.

We need to cover Texas from El Paso to Orange and from the panhandle to brownsville (ok not so much brownsville).we can use any and all studs.

This kid is not 240 lbs, more like 260 or 270. That one picture of him next to Herman you can tell he is filling out very well. as someone already mentioned. Looking at his frame, he can easily carry 300 without having to carry bad weight.

He is supposedly closer to 255 lbs as of June.
His family is Bosnian
From one of his coaches --
“Big frame, 6’5-6’6 with good feet. He has the type of frame that coaches are looking for in Offensive Tackle recruits at this level.”
“He works super hard. Great kid with a second to none mean streak on the field. It’s insane. He’s an easy-going kid, good student, but when he turns it on, I wouldn’t want to be someone that he is fighting (laughs).

I've made several trips to Eastern Europe, mostly Russia, and I can tell you. There is an abundance of big strong kids that would be amazing offensive and defensive linemen. I believe that if someone would start a training service there something like that kicking school in Australia just for Qbs and linemen you would see college coaches jumping on planes trying to find the next great OT.

I was in a mall in Moscow and saw a kid flipping burgers in a Burger King that was every bit 6'5 and 250 with zero body fat. He had the frame to easily carry 300. You could tell he had some viking blood in him. Those kind of kids are all over the place out there.

We also offered a WR from Calif (#24 in Cal per 247) -- LV Bunkley-Shelton (5'11,174) from Gardena Junipero Serra (where he is the teammate of 2022 QB Maalik Murphy).

This is another post-camp offer. Here is something from 247 on him --
—Gardena (Calif) Junipero Serra wide receiver LV Bunkley-Shelton was the talk of the camp. The four-star wide receiver turned heads with his fluidity and route running ability. He showed exceptional body control and made several plays in passing drills. He even lined up at corner and showed off quick feet. Bunkley-Shelton drew the eyes of the entire staff at one point, and it was enough to earn him a Texas offer following the camp.

And something more general about the Cal Lutheran camp --
—You can tell how much Cal Lutheran means to Tom Herman when you hear him talk about his time there. In observing Herman talking with different people at today’s camp, it’s clear that his college had a profound impact on him. It’s a big reason why Herman returns to “Cal Lu” each year for a camp, and the school is a factory for high school coaches all over the state of California.
—There’s a certain buzz when Texas is in California. While talking to many people who attended the camp, it’s clear that the west coast feels special when the Longhorns come to town. West coast kids seem to have an interest in Texas, because Austin provides a similar vibe to California. The state is also chock-full of passers and playing in the Big 12 is appetizing to them. There is also a group of prospects on the west coast looking for great academics and football. For them, Texas checks the boxes.

Honestly I'd be ok getting 25% - 35% of the Top north Texas talent every year.

OU has been taking a large share of north Texas HS talent for 70 straight years; no point in acting like Herman or anyone else is going to wave a magic wand and make it stop.

4-star S Bryson Washington of Houston CE King is supposed to be in Austin this weekend. Maybe seeing Coach Naivar who is not on the road this weekend. Has been considered an ou lean of late. Apparently was seen on Lake Travis with QB Hudson Card this weekend.

I think with Bru going back to Cali, we have 2 slots open this cycle so losing on Omeire at this point won't hurt too badly. I'm still hoping for Mookie to come back around.

He is not the fastest guy out there. Besides Johnny Wilson of Cal, an interesting in-state tall WR is 4-star Quentin Johnston (6'4,180) of Temple

Incoming?
We have several players on campus this weekend (there is a camp) and there is also a 2021 WR who says he has an announcement (see 2021 thread)
