2020 Recruiting - Football

When it comes to Texas high school football, I generally don't root for a specific team, I just want to see some good football. However, I think Duncanville and North Shore are again on a collision course and this time I'm pulling 100% for Dville.

Me too!....although I am still keeping hope that Zach Evans sees the productive season the Longhorns have by whipping the Sooners' butt twice this year and commits to the good guys as well! :ousucks:

I know JJ is a good QB talent but it wouldn't bother me if he became a linebacker. Excellent speed even with a gain of twenty pounds and with QB smarts to be able to read plays quickly I can see it!

That was a hell of a game would love to see it again

Whoop them twice and then steal McClellan from them would be even better

As a Houston guy I gotta go North Shore if they make it again, but I feel the sentiment.

Some updates --

247's Mike Roach put in a CB for RB Bijan Robinson to Texas

Also some CBs coming in for 4-star ATH/CB Jahari Rogers (6'0,170) from Arlington High to Texas.

And some CBs (including a Wiltfong) in for 4-star S Chris Thompson, Jr. (6'2,195) to Texas. He is Jackson's teammate at Duncanville.

Also ..... IT says CB Joshua Eaton (Aldine MacArthur) and S Xavion Alford (Pearland Shadow Creek) dined last night with some of the Texas DBs in Austin. Sounds like Alford will use his OV for the LSU game.

Some quotes from 4-star S Lathan Ransom (6'0.5,200) from Tucson post UOV to Texas. He plays at Salpointe Catholic which is the same school as Bijan Robinson and Kelee Ringo. That program has a roster full of P5 offer players. They better win state--

"The culture, with the players there, and the family feel that coach Tom Herman has built within the program. I really like what the defensive coaches have in mind for what they want to do with the defensive backs next year and it's really about how they use them, just getting them in versatile spots to make an impact. I like how much the safeties are involved in the blitz schemes. I really liked the whole vibe of Texas football."

"I'm excited to get back in a couple weeks for my official and spend more time with the players, get more time with coach Herman and experience the whole feel out there. They definitely made a big impression and I'm very happy that me and my dad made that trip to Austin. I'm really looking forward to getting back out there."
Over the weekend, Herman had him paired with Caden Sterns who was once committed to LSU before flipping to Texas

On Johnny Wilson, West Coast 247 guru Greg Biggins says
“Oregon looks like the leader at this point with Texas a close second. Washington, UCLA and Ohio State round out his top five."

Johnny Wilson reportedly stayed over in Austin until Monday. Other gurus saying it looks like Texas vs Oregon.

Sounds like an offer is coming for 2020 DE Philip Blidi (of Portales, NM)- offers cannot be extended at camp. He may be underrated given that he plays in New Mexico but he is 6’4 245 and well built.
Philip Blidi, Portales, Strong-Side Defensive End

Phillip Blidi: Rush end with a very quick step, and dogged pursuit. By the look of his arms and shoulders, I'd say he probably spends some time in the weight room. Diamond in the rough. Nice work by the staff finding this guy. Obviously, assuming we offer, other big programs will be taking note.

For now, as for his offer list (assuming we extend the offer), the Sesame Street song "One of these things is not like the others..." comes to mind:

Abilene Christian
Illinois State
U. of New Mexico
New Mexico State
Tulsa
SMU
UTEP
Texas

In my estimation, I had no doubt in my mind. I'm glad we didn't make the top 5, we can move on without the thought we have to wait to see if we are the one or not. Nothing worse than being second place in a recruitment like that which leaves us an open slot with no one to fill it.

Bijan will be making his selection in around September, if he picks someone else, we still have time to go in a different direction. Evans is likely going to drag his song and dance number all the way through January. The teams he doesn't pick will probably without options.

I totally agree. I remember two specific cases, where we took two leftovers at the last minute. Maybe some of y'all can help me if you know what ever to happened to either or both of those guys:

Kenneth Sims
:hookem2:
John Hagy

Two happy ending out of how many? Might as well talk about how some 2'star became an all-pro in the NFL. It happens, but you don't stop recruiting 5'star guys because you think you can do better with the 2'star guys.

No, but you do stop recruiting five stars for several reasons - see also Ron Morris, Bill Jones. Marcus Dupree, et al

We are no longer privileged to that information.

Who was that running back from we recruited he was ranked as the #1 RB in the country and he was down to Texas and colorado. I just remember Ketch was hiding in bushes trying to get the scoop, dude ended up picking Colorado mostly because of Ketch's creepy ***.

That is a prime example of what I am talking about. We came in 2nd place and didn't end up getting anyone. This is a season we can't let that happen.

Marcus Houston was one that was bought by Colorado.

Darrell Scott?

And the parade of highly ranked North Texas players to ou continues. Today the land thieves got 4-star RB Seth McGowan from Mesquite, TX. Just in time to join 5-star RB Jase McClellan from Aledo, TX
