2018 Recruiting - WBB

My source was 1 out of 2 last year. S/he was confident Texas would get both Rellah and Megan Walker. This year predicts Queen to FSU and Christyn to Texas. The numbers have been taken care of.
That would be the best of all worlds, but......I'm a pessimist....so, there's that.

Unless you know for SURE, it's never wise to speak...... I've never thought it was a good idea to "repeat" things on a message board that perhaps you were told in confidence. Even if it wasn't in confidence, it's just better to wait it out and see. These are still kids and they do read message boards. I'm hoping we can still persuade Queen to come to Texas now, but we shall see.

Unfortunate, but we were a late re-addition this summer; so, it seemed we were behind her other finalists. That being said, she had South Carolina back in September, and I guess they made up enough ground to make her final two.

Regardless, finishing first for a recruit is all that matter; so, if we weren't gonna get her, I'd rather our staff know now.

I had been thinking UConn has always bee her leader, so I will stick with that.

First the Oklahoma State game and now this...very disappointed. Today's practice reminded again how special our senior guards will be this year; two All-Big12 players will be a lot to replace in 2018.

Chasity and Destiny need to get up to speed asap. They embody the long-term strength of the program at that position. And I hope our two guard commits are as underrated as many believe.

well, should open the door for Queen if she still wants to come to Texas. We will find out next week where she decides to go. I'm pretty happy with our class as is. Queen would just make it that much better.

I thought South Carolina would be one of the two. Her comments after her visit there were very telling. She flat out seemed to fall for Dawn as someone she wanted to model herself after, and talked about how the campus was "not too big, not too small." It was a really enthusiastic report. I am sure she is a great player, but I'm not sure at all she is number one in the country. I don't want to sound like sour grapes, but her stats weren't very good on the USA team she was on this summer, got the least minutes on the team and didn't have a good shooting percentage. (Of course, she was the only player still in high school.) She shot 38% from three last year in high school, respectable but not mind-bending. I'm sure the coaches and recruiting services are spot on in wanting her, but I don't think not getting her will hurt us. I felt the same way about Megan Walker last year. Of course, it all remains to be seen. I may be eating my words.

If I had to choose between getting Christyn or flipping Charli, I’d go with Charli every time. Don’t get me wrong - having Christyn would have been awesome but I think Charli’s combination of size and skill is incredibly rare. It stung more, in my opinion, missing out on Megan Walker because she would have addressed a gap as a true elite SF. If Joyner has improved her midrange shot from her freshman year, that mitigates much of that need.

I really like this class as it stands - a lot of versatility. Charli can play the 4/5, Joanne can play either G position though I think SG is a more natural position for her, and Audrey seems like a hybrid 2/3. Sedona definitely isn’t your run of the mill, back to the basket, stay within 6-8 feet of the basket Center either.

I agree. Best to remain closed-mouth about this stuff in public forums, and just let the recruits finish their process, decide, and announce for themselves. Anything else has historically turned out to be uncredible blabber, and casts a certain similar shadow on he/she who spews it. Just sayin...

Wherever there is uncertainty, some crave the sure thing that guarantees a future outcome. Not going to happen. As indicated, this prediction was from sources that were only 50% accurate last year and was posted before anyone knew Christyn's final two. It's easy to be right after the fact, as some pretend to be, and my post was not characterized as a peak at signed LOIs...the only certainty.

Deal with it or choose to ignore, and I'll share opinions from people that trust me to safeguard their identity. That is, until this Board turns into something other than its purpose, entertainment.

Zig--I appreciate you sharing what you had heard and hope you continue to do so. When I hear or read recruiting info I know there is a chance it will not come true because things change behind the scenes. Nothing Zig shared changed the outcome of Christyn's decision.

DFW I agree with your assessment that this class has met the needs of our team. And, as Zig previously stated, I hope that our two guards are underrated. Recruiting is a subjective process that allows for a lot of players to slip under the radar. There are many great players that never get the attention from the recruiting services. The other wildcard is chemistry and how that player is going to mesh with the current team. Although it looks good on paper to sign a class of recruits that are all ranked in the top 20, I believe teams need a mix of players that may not have the "ego" of the elite players. As is, Texas is loaded with McDonald's AA and has all of the pieces to be in the national championship discussion. Now the pressure is on the coaches to get the best out of the players and put us in the position to win championships.

As if you're zest to impress us with info from your source wasn't enough, you still don't get it!!! I had similar information as you did, but I choose not to share that info on a public forum (1) because there is no certainty in recruiting until the LOI is signed, (2) I don't find the need to run and tell all that I know or hear in an attempt to win FIRST PRIZE, and (3) because I'm quite sure that just because certain things or opinions are shared does not mean that source is okay with you repeating it on a public forum!!! These kids and their families do read these boards and we should all be very careful what we write and say. If you believe that you are the only person your source confides in, then you probably need a reality check!!! One inaccurate post regarding a recruit could sway another away!!! As far as entertainment goes, you've already provided that!!! Now........you deal with that or not.....

The thing is, Bobcat, this message board is for sharing, discussing and speculation about many things, including recruiting. Hard to do that if people don't share. Nothing in his post guaranteed anything, nor did anything other than state that a tidbit had been provided about the recruiting. If you knew the same thing and chose not to share, that's your privilege. It's Zig's to share if Zig feels it will inform the posters and continue the discussion that was ongoing.

Everyone wanted to know what the odds were to make Christyn's final two and, right now, USCarolina and UConn are placing odds, digging into the most trivial thing to try to guess which program she will choose.

I happen to like the free flow of information from everyone. It makes this board so much more interesting to come to. Especially in a period where news is so hard to come by from official sources, who are limited by rules, regulations, legalities, etc. We have posters that have played the game at a high level, those who have inside connections (who presumably have been told what can or cannot be let out), and those, like me, that just like to watch and talk about the game and the players.

I respect your opinion Babhorn, but I disagree. Of course it is a free flow of information, but as you know regarding practices, any of us attending just DO NOT discuss certain things from practices in public forums. I take those request seriously myself. And once again, you are missing the point. Especially when recruiting is coming down to the wire like the present situation, I just feel it is not necessary or appropriate to "speculate" or share "supposed" inside information (which turned out to be totally wrong). ANY little thing we say as posters could be taken out of context and thus possibly affect a recruit's decision. I would still like to grab Queen Egbo out of this class, and I personally don't think writing her off publicly is a good idea when it is clear we are still in the running. She may very well end up at FSU, but at one time Texas was "potentially" the front runner.

I did play sports at a very high level, and, I happen to know a couple of AAU coaches personally!!!!! That doesn't mean I run on here and tell everything I hear or know. I do understand the excitement and anticipation we all feel as loyal fans, but I also think this forum is not the place to share everything we might know or have heard, especially regarding recruits. It's called using discretion. We'll have to disagree on this one.

The premise that sharing opinions casts anyone in the role of puppet-master over recruits and their families is pretentious and condescending. Give these families some credit.

I can hear the living room conversation now. "Mom, some poster on Hornsfans says he heard I'm choosing ABC." "How dare they! Honey, don't follow your heart, don't do what's in your best interest, go with XYZ. We'll show them!"

Please.

AGAIN....your desire to win FIRST PRIZE because you "supposedly" knew someone with so called "inside information" caused you to fall flat on your face. I know it's rather difficult for you to accept that, but it IS a fact. No amount of reason I can offer you is going to change your desire to be in first place. Knock yourself out......

I get it, I get it.

I'm in it for the attention and you are the keeper of bulletin board morals. We all appreciate the great job you are doing.

Let me simplify:

Bottom line... If information shared publicly could possibly affect recruiting in a negative way, then why do it? It's not amusing, particularly when it has a pattern of turning out to be untrue making the "town cryer" look foolish. Do what you will if it makes you feel like a privileged member of some exclusive club, that's certainly your prerogative.

I give you credit for simplifying, but you did not make your case. What exactly "could possibly affect recruiting"? That position is subjective to the extent that anything shared on this board should be suppressed. And only a select, self-appointed few have the wisdom and judgement to distinguish.

I do not get the animosity toward Zig. Not that Zig needs my defense, but it was clearly asserted the source was .500 last year --- not very good. We talk about recruits all summer, wondering who is going to do what, sometimes what we speculate, sometimes what we have heard. I doubt very much anything anyone writes on this board is going to determine where a recruit goes. They have plenty of actual real information to go on. It will be a boring board if we have a police watch telling us what we can say and not say.

I don't understand the fuss. If I understand it....

OKAY:
"I heard a top 100 player might be coming to visit Texas this weekend"
"Ohhh, did you see [REDACTED NAME]? She was wearing a Longhorn t-shirt in that picture! I think that's a good sign!"
"I heard [REDACTED NAME] might be coming to visit this weekend"

NOT OKAY:
"I heard from someone close to [REDACTED NAME] Texas is one of the top two choices"

I've had my hand spanked for daring to use a Texas player's name with a negative adjective. Thus, I've gone to using [REDACTED NAME] cause you know...I don't want to cause [REDACTED NAME] to transfer because I said something without pom-poms.

Obviously there's no REAL understanding of how the process all works or COULD POTENTIALLY work. Bobcat, it's pointless to try and reason with those who are clearly ignorant regarding certain subject matter. Hell, there's obviously even a lack of understanding regarding one of the most basic common courtesies... that being not to going around repeating what others say... especially when it's speculative.

FSU verbals:
two 5-10 guards, one 5-11 guard and one 6-2 guard, plus 6-3 F Myers.
Should not be a concern for Queen if she decides to go there.

Still hoping she decides on the Horns.
