thanks for the observations, Zig.
This is so true. While I still use the traditional positions in my pregame write-ups, I know that the ebb and flow of the game pretty much makes that only a placesetter. Where a player plays depends on her versatility, skills and how she matches up with opponents. Which makes the development of our players such an exciting thing to watch over the four years they are here.I wasn't sure where to post this, so I'm posting it under 2018 Recruiting. Since it is only fair to the player to mask her identity, please consider the seven players in the 2017 and 2018 classes.
I was discussing a particular player with someone close to the program. S/he thought this person could become the the most dominant player in Texas history. Before the conversation, I would probably have placed this person third, maybe even fourth on the list, so I was quite surprised.
I received an education I did not request, but it makes sense. The women's game is evolving. Traditional roles for each position, guard, forward, post, do not fit the advanced skill set and physical attributes that modern women athletes bring to the top programs like Texas. This has me excited to see how this person develops. Hopefully, in three years, this observation will prove correct and the player will be obvious to all.
