2018 Recruiting - Football

A question about Carrington. I've never heard of him until recently. What made him so special at recruiting to even get a chance to display his talent? I see his results, I just don't know his resume leading up to where we are now.

I posted this above, written by and for his high school
But he is so young, there is not that much else
The recruits seems to like that he is young enough for them to relate to

Also, check this quote from Holland --
I was exchanging messages with Texas signee D'shawn Jamison this morning and asked him about Bryan Carrington hitting the road. He responded with this. "If Carrington is on a recruit, he's ours."

Also, with Hard starting soon, this is Carrington's last week on the road

An interesting snippet from Holland --

"Hand has connections with elite out-of-state offensive line targets Nicholas Petit-Frere, Dylan Wonnum and Richard Gouraige, all of whom remained unsigned. With Hand on board, Texas might be able to get one on campus for an official visit."

Be still my beating heart

You know this will be a revolutionary thing. Just like at one time Baseball Pitchers would pitch the whole game for better or worse and then they learned and started getting relief pitchers. Shotgun formation and on and on. Now watch colleges start hiring all these young dudes to go in and get the job done. I love the quote about Carrington going in means they are ours. He's done a great job.

Some quotes that kinda suck from grad transfer LT Calvin Anderson, who does not graduate until May --

"What I've been telling the coaches, I want to know by my birthday, Mar. 25. That's the latest I think I want to know by. If it could happen before then, that's perfect too. I just need to set up some official visits."

"I was really happy with the Michigan talk. UT, I haven't set this in stone yet, but it's likely I'll visit there this weekend, so I'm happy with them. The Auburn coaches, they've been put in a lot of effort. I've been talking to coach (Chip) Lindsey, so they're up there too. The Pitt guys, they're awesome. Coach (Bill) Bedenbaugh from Oklahoma has been awesome. And Notre Dame I was really happy about. If they offer, that would be huge because that's 'O-Line U' there.'"

"My biggest thing - I've had a great career at Rice and will have an excellent degree in mathematical economics - but now I'm moving toward my dream of going to the NFL. I'm in a unique spot where I have an opportunity to chase that dream. So I'm 100-percent committed to it. This next year, I want to go to a place that's going to get better and give me really good competition. I want to develop as a player to be ready for the 2019 NFL draft. All the schools I'm talking to are in big conferences with good opportunities for exposure. The Big 12, the SEC is huge - Auburn, the Big Ten, all these conferences are big."

"The last school I was really hoping to hear from was Notre Dame. It was cool to hear from them because they were probably the last school that I was like, 'If I hear from them, that could shake things up a bit.'"

Keys now says he will visit Texas next week.
He visits Notre Dame this weekend, which has been considered a favorite landing spot for him. Tom Loy, the ND 247 guy, says the schollie numbers are getting tight there and they will push him to commit this weekend. If he doesn’t, Texas will be in great shape.

he gone

Using the SPARQ shuttle times as a tool to compare slot WRs, Josh Moore looks pretty good

J Moore 3.96 shuttle
B Eagles - 3.99
A Woodard - 4.24
L Keys III - 4.26

-------------
Speaking of WR, I guess we have not given up on Tommy Bush

This refers to Ossai and Carson

".... Texas failed to sign a defensive lineman during the Early Signing Period so Ossai and Carson would help address the remaining need in the 2018 cycle for Tom Herman and his staff.....

Ossai is a high-motor, long, athletic hybrid that would fit perfectly in Texas's defense as that outside linebacker/defensive end type.

...... I ultimately see the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Carson adding 30 pounds and being a factor on the interior for UT."

I want to develop as a player to be ready for the 2019 NFL draft.

He's a very smart dude and if that's his only criteria he should already be aware that we haven't done a great job of developing linemen over the last few years. He's not going anywhere to help their situation. He want's to go where he knows he can get better and be ready for the NFL. Hopefully Hand can be the one that enhances his views of his potential here.

I read somewhere the Connor Williams added bulk and strength during our off-season program and Malik Jefferson made tremendous improvements in his lower body strength and on-field performance. Certainly Texas players improving NFL visibility was greater on the defensive side of the ball in 2017, but all players are in the same strength and conditioning program aren't they?

Yes, they are all part of the same program, but there is more to developing as a player than getting stronger. I'm sure that helps quite a bit though.

I will really hate it if we miss this guy. But it's hard to argue with his logic and plan.

The past few days, there has been some question whether Ojomo would be able to squeeze in a Texas visit or not. It seemed to be down to aggy or us for his last OV, and he was getting some CBs to aggy. Now it looks like they will not even get a visit. LOL

and aggy flips out, of course

Sounds like Duvernay deciding to transfer got us back on Tommy Bush. He is 6'5,191 and has reportedly clocked a 4.4. Ranked as the #38 WR in the 247Composite.

“Coach Beck and Coach Mehringer basically explained the situation with Texas losing more wide receivers than they first thought. They asked me what it would take to get me on an official visit to UT.”

He has already OVd to Georgia, Michigan State and Nebraska — and has Ole Miss next, leaving one OV remaining for Texas or Arkansas/Florida.

We will see

Grad transfer OT Casey Tucker already knows Herb Hand who recruited him at Auburn
Seen as a positive for us.
