2018 Recruiting - Football

I look forward to coming here everyday to see Aggie misery in action, or what real folks call reality.

A week or so ago we discussed Texas' issues recruiting in North Texas. In today's Dallas News they featured their All Area team. Of the 22 seniors on the team:
Signed:
One each to the following:
Okie Lite
ASU
UVa
Colorado
ou
Mizzou
Texas Tech
LSU
Baylor
State Penn

Committed:
One each to:
Texas Tech
ou

Of the remaining 9 uncommitted, none list Texas.

I will add that the Dallas News is not a friend of Texas, and they feature Chip Brown as their Texas insider.

2018 was a year Houston has the best recruits in the state, and we are mopping up there

In 2019, it's the Dallas metro area with the top players in the state. We are already working it hard.

they feature Chip Brown as their Texas insider.

Kinda like having Billy Sol Estes as your banking expert. While I much preferred the DMN to the Times Herald, Blackie Sherrod would never have given Chip Brown the time of day, and neither did the DMN have Joe Bob Briggs every Friday.

^I stopped my subscription to the DMN last year - when their editorial board backed Hillary. And I really don't miss it - I can get better sports news online. I still get the FWST - it is basically a mouthpiece for TCU in the Sports page, but it does cover Arlington news better than the DMN ever did.

LB DaShaun White says he has shut down all recruiting, no more in-homes. We will be seeing him once a year in October.

Even as a UT Alum married to one and father of one, I enjoy reading Kirk Bohls. But, I was taught to be open minded and be aware of all points of view. I do not cancel my subscription to newspapers or magazines because I disagree with an editorial or article. I contact the publication and let them know my perspective. '

I enjoy UT sports, even under the curse of the LHN, but do not wear orange glasses as many on this site who predict 12-0 seasons every year (the anti-Bohls folks) and take any criticism of the program form outside as heresy.

Texas 247 thinks DL Vernon Jackson, who is committed to Alabama and just OVd to Austin, in leaning towards staying in state.
If so, the threat to us is aggy who he will OV to the last weekend

Crockett: Read the article. What's the problem? I generally read Scout as opposed to Rivals. Probably because they seem to like our recruits a bit better and this is leisure time, but where's the issue?

I didn't see it from an official source, but I saw lots of second hand reports that a negative Chip Brown article posted before the December signing date caused Bonnito to go with OU instead of Texas.

Crockett: may be some truth here but I believe in primary sources. Absent them I tend to think we are not informed. Read Chip regularly and find him to be reasonable. If a recruit goes elsewhere look to our coaches before you blame a journalist.

The other thing about Chip is that he presents "scoops" citing "sources" that end up being wrong often enough for me to be pretty sure the "sources" are his own educated guesses.

NOTE ON CASEY TUCKER
The former Stanford offensive lineman was in Austin yesterday for his visit with the coaches and to see the campus. I've heard it went well and also heard a few schools pursuing feel like Texas is in great position here.

We're looking to get more concrete info on Tucker this week, but as you know with the grad transfer market, the news can be scarce. One overwhelming positive is that he graduated from Stanford. With the difficulty of UT's admissions for graduate student-athletes, I feel confident Tucker probably wouldn't have a problem in that regard.

Nothing new on OL grad transfer Calvin Anderson. Derek Warehime went to see him on Friday, but he wasn't the only one. Auburn did too, and OU, Michigan, Florida, and TCU are also in pushing for the left tackle from Rice.

Texas is in the mix for both, and would gladly take both.

Here are the recruits Nahlin's thinks we are in pretty good shape with --

Joseph Ossai, Conroe Oak Ridge, DE/OLB 80%
Josh Moore, Yoakum, WR 70%
Caleb Okechukwu, St. John's School (DC), DE 60%
Michael Williams, Dunham School (Baton Rouge), DE 60%

247, as noted above, thinks we have a great shot now with Jackson. They note his fav part was hanging at Herman's house with Brennan Eagles, Anthony Cook and BJ Foster. He is also good friends with 2019 Jordan Whittington who was also on campus past this weekend.

But IT sees it just the opposite. They thinks he sticks with Alabama

Who will be proven correct?
Stay tuned

A snippet from Perroni (aggy) --

-The news on Joseph Ossai is not great and, unless things take yet another 180, he appears to be Texas-bound...... (aggy was) the heavy leader as recently as a couple weeks ago..... Things have changed to the Horns being the heavy leader and he has already used his official visit to (aggy) and Jimbo Fisher has already used his in-home. (aggy) assistants will keep visiting him but there might not be enough time left in this one.

Some more CB movement in our direction --
Andrew Ellis, who is a 247 guy covering tOSU, put in CBs to Texas for
WDE Joseph Ossai,
SSDE Caleb Okechukwu and
ATH/DE Michael Williams.

Tucker is still on campus Monday
He has the family with him, leaving Tuesday afternoon
The competition is Colorado, TCU and Auburn
