2018 Recruiting - Football

Interesting new prospect. Apparently we are in the mix for. He is at the UA All-American Game --
Tyrese Johnson-Fisher is a rugby and track athlete from London, participating in the Under Armour All-America game this week as a running back. He was found after sending his rugby and track film to the event organizers of the Elite 200 in Germany. He's heard from Penn State, Texas and Coastal Carolina.

Woodard is one of our commits recruiting at the UA Game

Snippet from Jeff Howe

...... Woodard is going to spend his time trying to get some of the game’s uncommitted and unsigned prospects to jump in the boat with the Longhorns. “I had a couple of coaches that sent a couple of names that I’ve got to talk to. So, as soon as everybody gets here, I’ve got to find those guys and get them onboard.”

Which recruits will Woodard will be working on? Five-star uncommitted offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere of Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep headlines the list. Also included among Woodard’s targets are Yoakum four-star uncommitted wide receiver Joshua Moore and four-star wide receiver commit Jalen Preston of Manvel. With his figurative recruiting hat placed firmly on his head, Woodard already has his pitch ready to go. “I’m just saying that you see how we’ve improved since the first game of the season,” Woodard said. “Defensively, you’ve seen the improvement since the first game. That defense has been top-notch.”

Some stuff on WR Preston from Holland --

Preston really liked Texas early on in his recruitment, but he was never really recruited by this new staff. He also had some academic issues. I'm working on getting more details on his status, but it looks like things have improved in that aspect.
* * * *
Preston, who picked up a UT offer under Charlie Strong, might make an official visit to Texas in January. And he's keeping the lines of communication open. “I’m in Houston with all the recruits,” Preston said. “I was sitting next to them on the plane. They’ve been talking to me. Coach (Drew) Mehringer talks to me every now and then. They’re trying to get me up there on a visit. They stopped communicating with me, but everyone deserves a second chance." Preston has all five official visits remaining.

4-star WR Joshua Moore from Yoakum says after decommitting from Nebraska, he is officially done with the Cornhuskers. Moore’s brother Jordan is committed to aggy, and Jimbo Fisher recruited Moore heavily while at FSU.

He would certainly work but I actually meant Rondale. His film is off the charts to me, and his YAC ability is insane, which is needed here, plus he didn’t sign in the early period. A man has the right to dream

The early signing period is letting coaches zero in on priorities with the time remaining. One of them appears to be DL Daniel Carson

Apparently things are getting warmer for us with Carson (6'5,260) from Missouri. Would be a nice get if we can pull it off.

Another DL we are looking at is SMU commit Christian Jones (6'6.285) of Cy Woods who is listed as a SSDE

Jones tells me he was out at one of the bowl practices last weekend. Jones played offensive line this year and has actually been playing football for two years. Jones said that he is being recruited by Texas as a defensive lineman and that he and coach Giles, “have been talking since last year”. He added, “we’ve always been in contact everyday. I went to see them practice last weekend”.

Jones is a raw prospect but he’s got a great frame and can run. He fits the mold of a 4i technique. A lot of odd front guys have success with players like Jones who have enough twitch to play on defense and one gap but the frame and power to play a man scheme as well. –

A 2018 DL class of Carson, Coburn and Ojomo would not suck.
Possibly +1

Also, this reporter, who is from Carson's area, seems to be saying Carson is coming to Austin

We already have a great recruiting class and normally that would be enough. But we have some real needs and it looks like things are trending very well lately for that.

Thanks to JoeFan for the fantastic updates. I have a feeling that TH is going to blow it up between now and February NSD. I love the momentum we have, and the “lobbyists” we have working for us at the All-American game. I wouldn’t want to be betting against Texas right now.

Here is a snippet of IT's UA Game practice reports

2. Keondre Coburn. He can't be blocked 1-on-1. Splits double teams too. Great strength and leverage at the point of attack. Ideal 3-tech in the Orlando system. He told coaches at UA he's signing with Texas, just like Eric said he would.

5. DeMarvion Overshown. Head-hunter. Hardest hitter. Thumper. Range. Freaky size/speed. Slow, southern twang that exudes honesty. Basically what we've written for over a year now. It's his first opportunity in the camp setting to measure himself against other talented players. Too often it just wasn't affordable for DMO to attend satellite camps, Opening regionals. This is a great experience for him. While I dream about him as a created player on NCAA '14 at safety, where he's playing this week in Orlando, he's a LB all the way. The Rover position was invented for kids like this.

6. Ayodele Adeoye. The ultimate inside linebacker. Looks like someone Alabama gets every year. Better athlete than expected. He was ready to hit someone during interviews. Just wants to play football. No wonder Tom Herman was aroused when describing Adeoye after his post-NSD1 signing. Instant impact type.

He can scoot too
Would be amazing he really is Gary Johnson quick

I’ve been saying it for a while, as have lots of people, this kid is a stud. Huge, huge get, especially considering the circumstances. Johnson, McCullough and him will be starting, though maybe not him for first few games. Maybe overshown over McCullough too

I like this guy, but the force seems strong with aggy

TFB thinks we not only have a chance with Ossai but it is trending our way. Good player but thought it was a longshot. Plus, stealing from aggy is always fun. His twitter feed has also taken on more of a Longhorn lately as well.

Bryan Carrington did a Q&A for his high school - St Pius (Houston). Here are couple of his answers

Q: You are moving into a great role in one of the most storied college football programs in the country. How does that make you feel?

A: It feels great. I can remember walking through the hallways of SPX with the sports section of the Houston Chronicle in my back pocket following up with daily sports news, especially news surrounding the University of Texas' football program. When Texas won the national championship, I went to Academy the next morning before school, got a championship t-shirt and even wore it under my SPX uniform. I have been a fan of Texas since I can remember and to work for them now is something I could have never predicted.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in your role as Assistant Director of Player Personnel at UT?

A; My career goal is to be the No. 1 football recruiter in all of college football. I want to bring in signing classes that are considered among the nation's best year in and year out.

We also have Louisiana DL Michael Williams (6'2,240) coming in for an OV on Jan. 26. Has offers from Alabama, ASU, LSU, Ole Miss, aggy ....

Besides Michael Williams^ who is somewhat like Vernon Jackson in that he played QB in high school, we are now in on several other DLs. Our dominant defensive performance in the Texas Bowl seems to have grabbed the attention of a lot of high schoolers

Jamarcus Chatman DE from Rome (GA). Recently de-committed from Tennessee. We offered last Spring. Back in contact with him now trying to get an OV

Fabien Lovett DL from Olive Branch (MS). Recently de-committed from Miss St. Has offers from Bama, Ole Miss, Purdue, UCF, ..... Like Chatman, let's see if we can get him to OV

Shabazz Dotson DL from Cedar Hill. Looked late grade issues but picked it up and is now fully qualified. He came to some of the Texas summer camps. Would probably commit quickly if offered.

Check out 4 games worth of senior year highlights of commit Jalen Green (Houston Heights) here. The PR at 0:38 is pretty entertaining
