2017 Recruiting

Glad to see we are one of Walker's finalists.

Gotta say I'm surprised Walker still has UVa on her list considering they just fired Joanne Boyle and hired a new head coach; oddly, new coach got a commitment from 6'9 Felicia Aiyeotan last week.

This was her prior list:

As fine a player as Cassidy was she was not a player you win National Championships with! She was the type player that Coach G could get!! Is anyone even sure Troup has a firm offer from Texas??
She wouldn't take a visit to Texas if she didn't have an offer. Also, you don't think a player like Fussell wouldn't have made an impact on the team this year? I certainly think a player who can shoot the ball consistently from the perimeter can help a Texas team that struggled to shoot the ball consistently from the perimeter outside of Brooke.

Troup made an "unofficial" visit to Texas. UT has many unofficial visits from girls who do not have an offer.
And I do not think Fussell would have made an impact on this team. She was slow and could not create a shot against good players and teams! That is one reason Texas had just average teams during her time With us.

She's also going to take an official visit to Texas. And if you don't think a player who can shoot the ball consistently from the perimeter wouldn't have helped this team you probably didn't watch Texas play this year. Texas struggled shooting the ball from the perimeter.

You don't win national championships if a player like Fussell is your best or second best player, but there isn't any question that you can win national championships with key role players which is what Haley Troup will be if she's playing for Texas.

Exactly. Getting players with different skill sets on your roster really opens up different lineup combinations. Haley Troup is known as a "shooter"; we really don't have another player for whom you could use that label.

The Orange starting to make it interesting. Don't recall any team forcing UConn into TOs so much. Huskies have gone cold.

I am very excited that we made Megan Walker's top 4. The people on the UConn board talk see her as a "must get" for them, like she is far and away the best player next year. To have Walker and Rellah Booth thinking about us ... wow, that is heady stuff. With the athleticism of either of them, combined with Joyner, Atkins, Higgs, McCarty. What a team that would be.

gonna put this here although it does have info about 2018 players as well (it's AAU teams). Found the link in the OU board.

going to have to follow this particular team:
Texas Elite Adidas Gauntlet Prime (17U) is anchored by my #1 ranked 2018, Sedona Prince. Playing alongside Prince in the frontcourt is the versatile 2017 Vivian Gray and the relentless effort of 2018 Catherine Reese. The frontcourt makes up what could be the best rebounding trio in the country. Add in 2017 sharp-shooting guard/forward Trinity Oliver, 2018 charismatic leader point guard Tatum Veitenheimer, 2017 combo guard Lauren Heard, and 2017 Rice commit Temi Alao, and you have one of the most complete teams in the country. Rounding out the roster is 2017 guard Ali Reese and 2017 post Ryanne Johnson.

I know we are looking at other PGs in the 2017 class, but I really hope we sign Tatum from 2018.

I do too. I can't claim to know much about her but I think she's got spunk, determination and is a very good at directing the tea. And of course, she is a great shooter and is a 3pt threat. (Did I just describe Brooke?)

Thanks Babhorn. Here's a photo of the Elite team I found on Twitter. What a great group of athletes! Hopefully some of them will be playing for Texas in the next couple of years.

Vivian Gray is on this team and would be a Great 2017 Get since Didi thinks she wants to be a Baylor Bear! Coach Aston is hot after Chasity Patterson but she is definitely an OU lean. Tatum and Sedona would do fine in 2018.

wonder how far is too far for Cara? Man, there are a lot of outstanding players. Glad we are in the conversation among the schools they are considering.

Distance or not, South Carolina just signed two class of 2016 guards last week; and, they have the two transfer guards being eligible this coming season (as redshirt sophomores, I believe). Of the schools mentioned in that article, I think USC has the most depth in the back court.

Not sure if Ursin is best suited for PG or SG, but I would guess SG.

Destrehan is just west of NOLA, on Lake Pontchartrain, I think. It would be a pretty long drive for her family to Austin (7 1/2 hours according to Google maps), but even a little longer to Waco, almost 9 hours to Knoxville, and, of course, a good bit longer than that to USC. I hope we're in within her travel radius. The obvious places would be LSU, LaTech, Tulane, Auburn --- no programs that are doing great right now.

Anyone recognize the staff member in Texas gear at the 0:45 mark in the video below? Guess it could be Mark Recoulley. At least one Texas target is playing at this event in Atlanta, Haley Troup.

So we're in the mix, and on the lists of 5 of the Hoopgurlz 2017 top 15. #1 Walker, #2 Boothe, #4 Patterson, #6 Morris and #14 Gray. And some say there is mutual interest with #16 Carter, though nothing official on that.

Of those five Walker is being heavily recruited by UCONN, some feel Patterson is an OU lean, and Morris may be headed to Baylor. And we're also looking at two others who aren't ranked in the top 60, but who many feel would be good fits for the team....Veitenheimer and Ursin.

I know we didn't make Jade Williams list of finalists but I hope we're still pursuing her also.

I have my preferences, but I'd say any combination of 3 of the above recruits would be a terrific class. Perhaps right now Boothe, Gray and Veitenheimer are the most likely? What do others think?

One small issue - Veitenheimer is class of 2018.
