2017 Recruiting

Someone on Orangebloods..com posted that Coach Aston was originally going to make an in-home with Chasity Patterson this past Monday night, but it's being re-scheduled (due to our second round tourney game I'd assume). Great news that she is making an in-home with Patterson.

Looks like Coach Aston and Coach Mayes visited Chasity and the Patterson family on Tuesday; think it was her Dad who tweeted the photo:

Listed at 5' 5" so taller than Brooke, and, as Brooke has shown, not the size of the dog in the fight...
I think Brooke is taller than Patterson. At least on all the Cy fair pics Brooke is taller while standing next to her. Brooke is a real fighter and takes pride in her defense, never seen a kid like her. Patterson will give us a great shooter so maybe she can play next to Sutton as a two guard

I like having guards of different heights on the roster. Gotta be able to create mismatches and also be able to counter mismatches your opponent is trying to create.

Despite being listed at 5'6 or shorter, both Chasity Patterson and Alexis Morris are ranked by the different recruiting services as the two best point guards in the country for 2017, I believe.

I love watching Morris play. She plays more like Brooke

It would be a thrill for us to get Patterson, the fourth best player in the country, according to Hoopgurlz. No matter her size, to add her to our already great guards, Brooke, Ariel, LaShan, and Alecia, as Empress and Celina leave --- wow, we could not do better in the whole country.

re Patterson's size, I believe Coach Aston is 5-4 so it looks like she is smaller than her listed height (big surprise). Given the way she plays, though, that should not be a problem if she has quicks, speed and court awareness to match Brooke's.

Patterson is small but she has long arms. She's also a better offensive player than Brooke, which is obviously saying a lot. Hopefully Coach Aston and the staff can get her.

I think I've been spoiled with early verbal commitments ever since Coach A took over. Surprised we are less than 8 months away from the 2017 signing period, and no known verbal commitments. Seems like the class in general has been slow to make verbal commitments; I think things will pick up (for all schools) now that the season is coming to an end.

Just heard that Morris is going to Baylor and Patterson really is looking at OU, UofH, and A&M. Not sure where UofH came in but a reliable source is saying this. They said UCLA is in the mix though.

If it is those schools, I hope she goes to Houston or a&m. I think she would fit very well in Oklahoma's system. She would be another player who would always give Texas problems just like Aaryn Ellenburg.

There was some sort of #marchfest happening in the DFW area today; lots of club teams from DFW, Houston, and San Antonio participated.

I know there are other players but the following players from Hoopgurlz 2017 Top 60 list Texas as a school of interest:

#1 Megan Walker 6-1 Wing Monacan H.S, Chesterfield, VA
#14 Vivian Gray 6-1 Forward Argyle HS, Argyle, TX

I know the coaches have had an in home visit with Patterson so I assume there is some interest.

#4 Chasity Patterson 5-5 PG, North Shore HS, Houston, TX

And there has been chatter about Carter although she does not list any schools:

#17 Chennedy Carter 5-7 PG Timberview HS, Arlington, TX

I wonder if the staff is interested in Alecia Sutton’s AAU teammate:

#45 Lauryn Miller 6-1 F, Kirkwood HS, Kirkwood, MO

Good list Babhorn. Looks like we need to add #2 Rellah Boothe to this list. HornsLewis mentioned on the 2018 thread that she just had an in-home with Aston and Mays.

She has narrowed her choices to Texas, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Texas Tech.
Hopefully, she liked what she saw in our game vs UConn. She won't lack for the opportunity to take the 3pt shot. She is considered one of the top 3pt shooters in her class. The following quote was from an article from the Gadsen Times last season:
Troup is listed as a guard; however, that doesn't truly describe her capabilities on the court.

She does possess guard skills, though. She is capable of handling the ball, running the offense and dishing out assists. When necessary, she also can score, whether it be from behind the 3-point line, in the mid-range game or driving to the basket.

In addition, Troup has the size, strength and athletic ability to play down low at times and haul in her fair share of rebounds. In short, her game has few noticeable weaknesses.

I have to say that Haley Troup's list of five finalists is very diverse. Just by looking at the schools' locations and basketball programs, really hard to guess as to what is important to her in selecting a final destination.

- South Carolina: A program that has been winning the SEC and earning a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney the last 3 years, and reached one final four; very good fan base as of late

- Texas: A program that has improved each of the last few seasons, including trips to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8

- Auburn: In-state school which has a relatively new coach and made the NCAA tourney this season after a recent drought

- Vanderbilt: A private institution with great academics, but whose women's hoops program seems to be in a steady decline, including missing the NCAA tourney this past season

- Texas Tech: A program that continues to remain at the bottom of the Big 12, and is not a recent NCAA tourney team.
