2017 Recruiting

Carter had tweeted a few months ago that she had been offered by Texas; she recently stated she has a Top 4 list, but didn't reveal it.

Not sure Morris has interest in Texas; she stated recently that she has a Top 2 (most believe those are Baylor and UCLA). UCLA, by the way, seems to be recruiting the state of Texas very hard with the coaching staff making recent visits to Patterson and Kayla Owens.

If we can sign Rellah Booth (despite the loss/connection of Travis Mays), that's a big feather in the cap of Coach Aston. Getting Megan Walker to visit sooner rather than later is definitely key for our staff; we may behind her other 3 finalists as far as familiarity, but there is obviously a reason(s) why she has as a finalist without ever having visited campus (as far as I know).

Veitenheimer is class of 2018. Hopefully, she is one of our main targets.

Overseas,
I'll take any of these combos of three --- 1) either Walker or Boothe, 2) one of the point guards, Patterson, Morris, or Carter and 3) Gray. I don't know enough about recruiting to have any guesses. Mooooo keeps us up on the latest. I hope somebody will come.

gonna put this here although it does have info about 2018 players as well (it's AAU teams). Found the link in the OU board.

going to have to follow this particular team:
In my futile attempt to glean anything about the assistant coach search by looking at Coach Aston's recent Twitter, I noticed Trinity Oliver started following and being followed by Coach A in the past 24 hours. Oliver had a great junior season for Euless Trinity, averaging 25.3 pts per game (#1 among 6A DFW players) and 10.7 rebounds (#4).

They do an excellent job of keeping things close to their vest, don't them? I am hoping we will find out this week who is hired. It's about the two week deadline Coach Aston was looking at.

Interesting timing. That could mean that we recently started recruiting her, or recently offered her. Or, I guess it could mean neither.

Just odd the "following" didn't happen earlier as I'm sure our coaches saw her play during the season (which ended over two months ago) as they attended so many high school games in the metroplex, I'm sure. And, I'm sure they were aware of her as she plays on the same club team as Sedona Prince and Tatum Veitenheimer.

Although that article was recent, I think the list of schools provided is outdated. Writer seems to have gone to Hoopgurlz.com and just taken the first three schools (of many) listed in Gray's bio.

Thanks for the update HornsLewis. Were there any stand-outs at the Boo Williams' tourney?
Charlie collier looked great and so did Zae Green. The biggest surprise was Didi Richards and it made me really but she has been in the gym from what I saw. She was just taking over games at times. She was really the best guard in the gym all weekend.

Lexi struggled out there on the EYBL circuit. I think she may have scored double figures maybe one time. She and Richards played against each other and Lexi scored 4 points while Richards had 27. Girls were a little to athletic for her

Maddison Williams looked really good out there. She is a defensive stopper and a really good athlete.

Patterson looked more like a point guard which is a little different when it comes to her. It was good to see her control the game as she did.

Great info HornsLewis. Thanks for posting feedback. It's great to get info on the girls as they play on their elite teams this Spring.

Baylor really snagged a good one with Didi. She'll be a tough match-up when she gets to college.

I really really hope we get a chance to make another impression on DiDi. I dont ever believe the race is over until a kid signs. And the fact that we have one of her best friends on campus, I think we still have a shot and I know the coaches are still watching her fwiw

HornsLewis,
Thanks for the terrific report. Can u say what the problem is with Carter's attitude? It sounds like she has a great game.

April 26 story about Megan Walker. Includes some info from the earlier story on her including her top four schools she will be making official visits to.

"Currently in her junior year, she has narrowed her choice of where to play in college down to four programs. She is considering Texas, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Connecticut."

It's a testament to the Texas coaching staff that they are in Walker's top 4 and Rellah Booth's top 2. Both girls live on the East coast and have no known ties to Texas. I believe it was stated in an old article that Walker is interested in attending a college with a big football program. If true, that bodes well for Notre Dame and Texas.

Boothe has a tie to Texas......well she used to at least. Her family and Travis family are really really really close. Also Boothe head coach went to Texas.

Tatum (200 meters & 4 x 100 meter relay) and Vivian Gray (high jump) will be competing in regional track meet this week.

Guess Tatum has pretty decent straight away speed, getting to regional in those events.

It certainly helps that Coach Dailey is her coach at IMG. Also even though Coach Mays isn't at Texas you know that he's still going to tell her to go to UT. But I also think that Coach Thompson could be very important.

A post coach with her kind of resume could be very convincing. I say that because Boothe reminds me of a left handed Tina Thompson. If Texas does get Boothe, with the talent that will already be on the roster they'll win a national championship.

I spoke with Travis while I was in Dallas two weeks ago. He said that he is recruiting her to SMU now. So this will be interesting now that they have to recruit against each other. He also told me a few reasons why he left. It was pretty interesting.
